Offbackia: Ruby Arrival

Stars. All above her, Quena could see the soft, twinkling light of thousands of stars, unlike anything she saw on Offtopic. Slowly, more things became recognizable around her. The ground was….dry. Very dry. She glanced around. Everything was barren…. The only thing she saw was lights in the distance. She slowly picks herself up. Everything….it looked like a set without anything on it. Barren, and near useless, unless you wanted to talk to yourself. Slowly, the last of her senses returned to her. There was almost no smell, besides blood and...ash? More ash than blood, too. And faintly she heard...yells? Maybe a campfire of some sort? She starts to walk to the distant lights. By the time she could make out buildings, she knew what was happening. That wasn't a campfire, it was a spreading fire. And those weren’t yells. Those were screams. Her pace quickened. People were being attacked. And she needed to help….maybe they would accept her afterwards. Once she entered the town, she saw people running. Once she looked where they were running from, there were two people, a man and a woman. Both wore clothing and armor that looked like it was sewn together from scrap and leather strips. “You! Woman!” The man yells. “Drop everything you’ve got!” “Yeah! Unless you want to become old world cheese!” The woman readies a rifle just as scrappy as her armor. Quena smiles slightly. Shadows rise behind the people. “Hm….so, who are you two?” They move a little, but keep their eyes on her. “That's no matter to you! Now drop everything! Now!” The shadows grab the two, and take away their guns. “Oh no, it is a matter for me.” They almost immediately start to panic. “Wh-what?! What are you doing?!” “Nothing. Now, tell me everything about you, and whoever else is with you.” “N-never!” The woman says. “We won’t tell!” “....” The man quietly glances at the woman, and she sighs. “...fine. I’m Araina, and he is Geori. We work for our king, who is just outside of the town…..and we were sent out to raid this town for more supplies.” “Mhm….now...what direction is this king in?” “Uhm….to the east...but be careful, you shouldn’t-” Quena cuts them off, with shadows growing into their mouths to make gags. “Thanks, but it's time for you to go...offstage!” Chains drag them away, and attach the raiders to buildings. Once she knows they’re fully chained up, she dashes eastward, headed for the king’s location. Along the way she thinks she sees someone with….stars on their body? Quena makes a pause, and sees this person fighting raiders. “Hey! I’m going after the King! Keep the people safe!” She yells, right before running off. Oddly, most raiders seem to be gone as she reaches the main camp, with only a few guarding her….and those few being easily stopped by shadow chains, since it was only one or two of them at a time. She slowly steps up to a large gate, and notices a button nearby. She hits the button, and the gate opens, revealing a man in scrappy armor substantially better than any other raider. “Ah! A challenger! Let’s see if you’re tough enough to be queen!” He starts firing at her with a rifle. “Huh? Wait, what's going on?!” She raises a shadow wall to protect herself, feeling the shockwaves of the bullets hitting the wall. As the man continues his assault, Quena sends shadow throwing stars at him, but he manages to dodge most, with one hitting his foot. “Ow! That's better than most already!” “What's going on?!” Quena has tendrils whip at him, and he gets hit more now that his foot is wounded. “Gah!” He starts throwing daggers, one of which scratch Quena’s face. Quena shouts. “Hey! No...hurting others on set!” She has tendrils whip him one last time, and the King falls to the ground. “I...I surrender….you….you are….the new leader.” He passes out. “I….guess I...win…?” She kneels down by the king, finding that he's still breathing. She slowly stands, and glances around before jumping in surprise. All around her are raiders, staring at her. One by one they bow, with their faces still facing her. As she looks between their faces….she sees glimpses of the past. They have the same look she had….the one shad had, in admiration of her leaders….and now, they were looking at her like that. She glimpses between everyone...while they keep bowing, some have their arms around another….others still are holding someone close, the people they’re holding seem upset...and lastly, she sees a few ignoring her, staring at a few bodies around. These people...they are a family. And now, Quena is at the head of it….and she made a quiet promise to herself. She wouldn’t let this new family die, like her last one. That's when they remembered the person wearing stars. Quena starts to get upset. SHe realizes what they might be doing to her new family. She looks to the raiders. “Do we have any vehicle I can use?” One points to a motorcycle that seems like it was repaired and welded time and time again. “Right there.” Quena hops on, and sloppily drives out and to the main town. There, she finds a few raiders that were captured, with the star person nearby. Quena parks, and quickly runs in. She uses shadows to block herself off, and frees her trapped family. As she runs back and hops onto the bike, she glances back at the star person. Now, instead of the soft starlight she awoke to, all she sees are harsh, fiery suns.
