Guilt
This is part of my What If series. It’s similar to the marvel show of the same name where I will be changing events so that they play out different.
“When PV said there was a breakout at the Prison of Elders, I knew it was gonna be a wild ride. Now, I happened to know just the Guardian to help us out. The Guardian. You know? The one that killed Crota, Oryx, stopped SIVA, became an Iron Lord, took out Ghaul, woke up the Traveler….. that Guardian. Little did I know, that would turn out to be a horrible mistake.” “So here we are arriving at the Prison. PV is already there and waiting for us. I asked her to do that cool thing that she does with her knife. Still sends shivers down my spine. Then I begin doing what I do best….killing aliens. This goes on for a while, we get split up. Next thing you know, I’m trying to activate defenses and get the system back online. The Guardian shows up and his Ghost helps me figure that out. PV says that she needs to go check on something while we shoot more bad guys (man, those turrets were a blast). As I was blasting away, I heard PV say something about the airlock and having to close it. I was about to volunteer, but the Guardian said he would do it. Five minutes later, a big flaming pile of wreckage comes crashing down with the Guardian on top of it. I chuckled as I thought about how much he reminded me of myself.” “As I start heading down to meet up with the Guardian and PV, I feel this blast of Light. It stopped me dead in my tracks. I knew exactly what this was. Sundance started to inform me about what had happened, but I stopped her because I already knew. I picked up the pace thinking I could get to the Guardian on time. As I was making my way to the bottom of the Prison, I ran into a bunch of Scorn. Man, I hate these guys. After quickly dealing with them, I continued to where the Guardian was. I arrived just in time to see the whiny brat walking out with the Guardians gun in hand (wasn’t anything special, just a custom Duke). I start to realize that the Guardian isn’t gonna make it. He starts going on about how this isn’t my fault and to carry on with my life. I’ll tell you what, carrying your dead friends body back to the Tower is something no Guardian should ever have to do.” End of field report. “Cayde, this isn’t your fault. It’s Uldren’s” “Thanks for trying to cheer me up Ikora, but it ain’t gonna work. It should of been me! I should be the one who is dead right now!” “Don’t say that Cayde” “You don’t need me. He was the real hero. All I do is sit up here in the Tower and look at maps all day. Not anymore. I’m gonna avenge our fallen Guardian.”
