I’ve thought about this before, but with a different take. Once you get past 100 you start getting better chances of better rolls/perks. And it also opens up the chance to get weapons that mostly solo players have little chance of getting otherwise.
There is so many lost opportunities that Bungie could have implemented with going past 100.

I don’t think they believe people will continue playing after level 100 or something. After rank 100 you get a reward every 5 ranks and it usually turns out to be trash anyway

On more accounts than not there’s going to be a negative effect on the community saying stop giving out garbage. On the other side, they wouldn’t be able to give out pinnacles due to their current miscommunication with expunge and the fact that it will shorten players’ grind which they probably won’t want. The sad truth is, we’ve got the best they could have offered us for the rewards after rank 100 There’s no real way to entice hard core players and casuals in a way that many will like, as seen with transmog system
