Repressed Press

May 30th, Mainz, Germany, 1450 The small town of Mainz was relatively unheard of before I returned. My return brought with it something revolutionary, the printing press, such a small device couldn’t cause that much harm now could it? As I began to take up residence again, the townspeople started to test my invention. First they started printing books and many learned how to read. Then a few rascals got a hold of it, and... it didn’t end well. Arnold: “Well, now that everyone has a basic education what should we do now?” Benedict: “No idea, what about you Samuel?” Samuel: “Daily occurrences, keeping everyone up to date on what’s going on.” Arnold: “That sounds like a great idea.” Benedict: “It sounds like it would end poorly.” So, those three troublemakers got to work printing their newspapers as they called them. Those papers attracted a lot of attention, a bit too much attention. Now that I look back on it, I should have locked the door, let no one in. Now where was I... oh yes, Tuesday. June 1st We had ourselves a small rodent problem, though those three didn’t seem to mind. The rest of them, now that’s an entirely different story. They wanted to remove the problem as fast as possible. Now you’d probably use a cat, right? Nope, these lunatics thought it would be ok to use a snake. Specifically one imported from who knows where. Now this snake, she was perfectly fine, removed the rodents in a matter of days; but that’s when the problems started. Those troublemakers I mentioned earlier, yeah, they decided to try and profit off of this. Now what’s wrong with that I hear you ask? Well, one day they decided that they had enough and wanted to rid themselves of the snake. That was just the first part of their mistake. The worst part was when they decided to do it in public, that was when the murder happened. The snake just ripped them apart, and everyone began screaming. They all ran for their houses, as for me, well I decided to see what was going on. The poor creature was on my porch, almost begging me to let it in. I looked at the mess that it had made, it understood what I was going to do. So it slithered away to where, I don’t know. Well, that’s how my reputation was tarnished for a little while. The town’s still here, as for the snake, I have no idea.
