I'll let you in on a secret. I used to do Sherpa runs back in the D1 days and early D2 days. I would Sherpa 5 newbies, not 1 or 2 guys, but 5 NEW guys who haven't done the raid or haven't cleared it yet. For FREE!!! No attachments whatsoever, I don't even stream or do youtube. BEST FEELING I've ever had in all my Destiny experiences!!! Best feeling ever! I've done a lot of raids, and I've played with some of the really good raiders of the community. But nothing beats bringing 5 NEW guys that haven't done the raid at all, and then clear it! BEST FEELING EVER!!! I don't play anymore because I don't like what happened to D2 when Activision left. The last time I did a Sherpa to 5 NEW guys was with my clan on Garden of Salvation, complete with Divinity run and a clear, to 5 newbies! I did this a lot for the community back in the day. For FREE, without attachments or any recognition. Because I knew there are a lot of gamers who wanted to do it, but are discouraged because of the toxicity of the community. And I was right! Gamers want to do the raid, they want to learn it, and they want to participate in it, if only somebody would guide them through it, without strings attached. Here's a tip, I don't go in to Sherpa and be the hero. I avoid hero moments when I Sherpa. I'm in accademics. I know how it works. Don't give food to a hungry nation, instead teach and show them how to make food, and they'll never grow hungry. Same with this. Don't Sharpa and carry new guys. Instead, teach them how to do it, give them roles and let them own it. That's how we make the community stronger and better raiders. That's how I do it. That's how I'll always do it. I don't play anymore not because of community, but because direction of the game has gone into milking cow schemes. I went back to playing D1. If you want community to be better, it's your turn to change it or make a change with it. Good luck guardians! Peace!

  •
Same dude. I used to do the exact same thing till Leviathan.
Indeed. Good for you! At least you're still playing now. I'm not.😂 D2 post Activision ruined it for me. I know D2 VoG is free, but game full of milking cow schemes now can't even get myself to play it, even for free. That's saying a lot.

  • * actually you give food to a hungry nation as you teach them how to do their own agriculture. We realize after a century of trying the alternative that its realy hard to teach people anything when theyre still dying from starvation because someone felt they had a moral high ground to not be generous.

  • I helped a few and used to run 3 characters in a raid on a weekly basis through Kings Fall and pretty much followed the same learning strategy being ex military. It IS a great feeling to get that first clear and employing the patience needed is what seems to be in short supply these days. Players like you being gone are a true loss guardian.

You're better off finding a good clan nowadays than going LFG. I'm playing D1 PvP nowadays. I'm also playing other games. I'll probably get back to D1 raiding every now and then. But I don't know when I'll be back with D2. I don't like the direction of D2 now. Maybe one day, I'll be on it after all the contents come out. For now I'm on hiatus. Lol. Enjoy the game brother!

  • I love teaching or helping people in raids but I just don’t have that much time on any day of the week to sit down and teach raids to people for 4+ hours besides I barely have enough time for the regular 2 hour run where everyone knows what to do. I feel bad because I really want to give back to the community for helping me learn

Same, and I carried multiple people through the Scolas encounter. Most fun I’ve had Then they made the game so mechanical and boring. People confuse “challenging” with tedious

  • Best explanation ever i was trying to find the right word. It’s not challenging it’s just a tedious artificial difficulty. I think they had the formula nearly right in D1. D2 just never came together. Oryx and Aksis we’re probably my 2 favourite raids.

People confuse “challenging” with tedious
Indeed! Good for you! And yes, I've meet some really cool and good people back in Scolas' days. Good times! I did Sherpa a couple of young guys back then, literally begging me because they where on my friends list. I literally throw them into the fire so that they would know how it feels. You get them to have confidence and pushed them positively to their limits. It brought the best in them. That's the best part!

  • How long would your 5 man carry take?
How long would your 5 man carry take?
Depends. Sometimes Hours! I put a day aside to do this. Mostly on weekends when I'm free. I have a young Family back then. I stay at home on weekends with them, and we spend it together indoors, especially on winter time. As the raid gets older, I don't need a lot from it, so that's a good time for me to focus on others. When I was doing it with LFG, would take 3 or 4 hours for Normal and over 5 hours on prestige. The last time I did it with clan of 5 newbies took about 5 hours with Divinity run on GoS raid. Some of them have no idea how to do the entire raid at all. I'm in academics, so I spend a lot of time simplifying strat for them. And I explain it thoroughly first. That's probably costing me half of the time as well. Lol. Community should build on this. If you want a strong Community. This is how you do it. This is the way! Don't give food, teach and show them how to grow and make food. Community will be stronger and never hungrier! 2 cents!

Lol most of my time was usually spent mostly on getting players used to some of the add spawns to better control the field in encounters. But I was that in depth. Players very much appreciated my patience and attention to details that people online did not teach.

I know its not the same thing but in Strikes, when its evident that the fireteam, or one of them is only learning, I'll always help them. I won't leave them behind. They know how to point and shoot....they just need help with some of the other stuff. I just take it slower and if I feel that they've gained some momentum, I'll step away and let them open up a can. The problem of course with matchmaking is that people may be doing the strikes fro different reasons. 1 person may be simply going for the weekly pinnacle, another grinding bounties whilst the 3rd person may be experiencing it for the first time. I can understand why people would use the argument of 'just use LFG' if you don't know the strikes but I cannot understand why people don't help those who are obviously in need of it. A strike doesn't last long. You guys who take the time to teach others in raids are a positive reflection of this community.

What you do is a good one. Repetition is sometimes key to mastery. And patience is a quality of a really good Sherpa. Awesome!👍

  • Lol I used to do that. I have not Sherpa’d in D2. My guys quit, so my team was gone. So I stopped. Raiding has been a crapshoot all of D2. I’m sure if I add up all my D2 raid clears they might only add up to my OG VoG clears. Maybe.

Not sure when I'll be playing D2 again. Lol.

  •
That’s how D1 community used to be when it first came out-nice job
Yep! That's how I remember it. Now, elitism and egotistic behaviors predominates because game itself also promotes it. I understand the competitive nature of human beings. I'm more of longevity nature and fun factor. It is an awesome game or could be, but could make or break depends on the people who makes them and community behaviour that plays it.

  • It always depends on the team. I’ve done 5 man carries of DSC that are done in under two hours, and I’ve also done a 4 man carry through a GoS div run that took over 6 hours. Make of that what you will, but it really depends on the players and how well the team communicates. Ngl I have met people who have never done a raid in their life that still manage to outperform people with dozens of clears.
