[b]X: Wakening, Darkening – Part II – A D2 Short Story – Season Finale[/b] [i]Rys[/i] Damian materializes and immediately revives Rys, who sits up with a gasp. He feels blood on his face. Whose blood is it? His? Yes. He feels where the bullet embedded itself in the back of his skull. He shivers. He would not make that mistake again. Obviously Cornelia had tried to end him. Maybe she forgot about the Light of the Ghosts, or maybe she just wanted the satisfaction of putting a bullet through his brains. He stands with a grunt as Damian vanishes. “We have GOT to move.” “Yeah. I need to find Tetra.” “Pinging now.” After a moment, the Ghost says, “she's not far. I have her location on your HUD.” Rys nods and pulls on his helmet, summoning his arc energy. “Time to move.” - - [i]Tetra[/i] “MOVE IT!” Tetra orders to the cowering civilians. “GET TO COVER!” The missiles from the unknown capital ship had not stopped bombing the City, and Tetra hadn’t seen Rys. Both made her start to worry. She had seen the Traveler, of course. Like a caged animal it hung in the sky. Tetra could feel its pain, screaming with her Light. She was positive all Guardians did as well. She felt sick for it. A familiar voice rings out amidst the chaos and fear. “HUNTERS! ARI—HEY!” The sound of the Ace of Spades being fired fills the air, and Cayde drops down in front of Tetra and the crowd, wrestling with a giant…rhino? Tetra wasn’t sure how to describe it. “Little help here!” Cayde shouts at her with wide eyes. Without wasting another second Tetra hurls dual knives at the creature. It falls easily. “Thanks,” Cayde says to her, brushing himself off. Looking over at the crowd, he says, “Don’t try that at home!” “Sir, what’s our status?” Tetra asks. While it was thrilling to be in the presence of the Hunter Vanguard, now was not the time to be awestruck. The exo freezes. “Uh…I dunno. I’ve just been shooting space rhinos like crazy.” “Sounds like a plan.” Tetra loads her twin sidearms and assumes a battle stance. Cayde raises an eyebrow. “You are one stankin' hot Hunter. Want my number?” Tetra starts to sweat, but quickly replies, “I'm taken by the Warlock over there.” Indeed, as Cayde glances behind him, Rys fires up Chaos Reach, and destroys the rhinos around him before hurling a Nova Bomb into a wall, obliterating several more. “Wow,” Cayde remarks. “I'm jealous. And I’m NEVER jealous. Ever. No sir.” Tetra grins and watches Rys happily as he summons a blade of fire. - - [i]Rys[/i] Flaming sword spent, Rys lands on the ground and starts firing his Suros Regime at the odd space rhinos. He suddenly finds Tetra by his side, shooting her pistols. “Where have you been?” “I was with Cayde,” she replies, “who is now jealous of you.” “Why?” “Because you have me.” She bumps him with her shoulder and he grins beneath the mask. Suddenly the air explodes with Light, and both Guardians fall to their knees. “The Traveler!” someone shouts. Rys looks up at the floating orb and sees that the cage is much, much larger now, covering the Traveler completely. “What are they doing?” Tetra whispers. With growing realization, Rys begins to understand the horrifying truth. His is mind spinning from his Warlock sessions, from reading past volumes of theory and law, from questions asked of elder Guardians. “They're stealing our Light. Blocking off the Traveler from giving it to us.” “What? So if we die…” Rys nods. “Many are going to die their final deaths.” “Then we have to stop them. Let’s get to the Tower, help Zavala and the Vanguard, then we can—” Something explodes beneath them flying through the air. Rys reaches for his flaming sword, and it begins to form in his hand. Then it crackles, fizzes, and disappears. Rys feels the Light he has always known suddenly vanish as he plummets toward the ground. Tetra must feel the same way, he thinks with a strange peace. To be united in this way, in death, was somehow honoring. He was hoping she felt the same. She did. Rys lands on something hard and the world turns to Darkness. [i]Ghaul has come None will stand before the Domimus Else they perish Or suffer a fate beyond death A fate beyond Light[/i] [spoiler]So! Here we are: the end of “Season 1,” as I’m going to call it. I chose to end this Season at this time because I am going to be away all of June and July, and won’t be able to post my stuffs between then. I’m going to miss you guys (a lot more than you think), but I’ll be back in August for Season 2! I wonder what will happen…? From what I’ve seen comment wise, this Season would be labeled as “cute”, because of the (apparently) adorable Rys and Tetra…Tetrys! Rystra? Figure it out for me, please. Will next Season be cute?
