Running AMD R9 3900X with AMD Radeon 6900XT ...I think what the issue is, is the CPU has become bottlenecked and is unable to feed what's necessary to the GPU. I've considered this because overclocking the CPU gives performance benefits while overclocking GPU does absolutely nothing. In CVARS.xml file, there's a line: ForceMultithreadedRenderer and it's set to off by default. Turning that on basically doubles the framerate in struggling areas but introduces drastic visual errors where geometry starts flickering in and out of existence. So perhaps that's the issue. Not enough threads being utilized on multicore processors?

yh it has to be, pre BL I would easily see my 3700x in the 50-60% usage range and considering I would only run at medium settings on my 1080ti to ensure 144fps (no issues) it ran totally fine. Post BL, CPU usage has never gone above 30%, GPU usage in almost every fight/mission etc. sits at 80% or lower (ill only see higher when FPS drops occur like override missions) and I never hit my FPS cap of 144 ever (literally under used hardware) with no apparent bottleneck in site. even single core/thread usage never shows a single core or thread at 100% so I have no god damn clue why performance is pure shit. still convinced lighting in a lot of areas "looks" off or washed out (like its missing a setting thats meant to be on) but its by no means localised to AMD hardware, I have constant FPS issues on my 3700x + 1080ti that previously would run D2 with no issues.

  • The ForceMultithreadedRenderer cmd is an interesting one. Bungie actually fixed the flickering on tangled shore and tangled shore orbit when ForceMultithreadedRenderer is set to 1. They didn't use the flickering fix on other planets though. Maybe they felt it wasn't the right approach. It's speculation though as they don't keep us in the loop on what they are planning as a fix to the poor high end gpu performance on pc.
