Right, because deleting PvP guarantees pve will take off and be amazing. Just look at borderlands or anthem — oh, wait ...

You’re really going to compare Borderlands with Anthem? Borderlands is still doing perfectly fine without PvP. While Anthem is completely dead and it wasn’t because of it not having PvP. Anthem died because the Devs didn’t know what to do with the game. They didn’t add content like they said they were going to do. Also they promised they were going to overhaul the game yet they never did. You think other MMORPG type of games lasted because of PvP? You think a game like WoW is so popular because of PvP? What about games like Genshin Impact? The fact that you and so many other people think games are only good or only last long because of PvP is dumb.

  • Borderlands... doing good? Last I heard the story was about the same quality as putrid dog shit infested water. Looking at gameplay it seems everytime the person farts a legendary drops. Anthem... well thats self explanatory. "Genshin Impact" and "game" do not go in the same sentence.

https://steamcharts.com/app/397540 5k players? This game is only a year old and already had quite a bit of content release and its at 5k concurrent players? That's not "fine". PvE only looter games unless super special like Borderlands 2 tend to die off fast. What was that other game that released recently...? InsideMinders or something like that? Can't remember it was that bad. Sure PvP might not help Borderlands 3 in its current state as its not designed for PvP, but having a game that has been designed with PvP in mind will have it last quite a bit longer if done well. Removing PvP from D2 would be a bad move and would take a large chunk of the playerbase with it. PvE would not get better in any way and even if it "did" only very minorly at the cost of entire facets of gameplay.

  • So you compare it only with Steam? You do realize that there’s a lot more console players also right. Actually with games like Borderlands there’s usually way more console players then PC players.

  • PC is the largest gaming platform. Majority of players play Borderlands on PC. At most its only 3k more players if you include console.

  • Do you truly believe that PC is the largest gaming platform? Do you know how much it cost to actually get good PC nowadays? Also the fact that you have to constantly update the PC with better parts. Consoles have and always will be the biggest gaming platform. There are way way more people that have consoles compared to PC’s. It’s just a lot cheaper to play on console compared to PC. A lot of PC games have force crossplay because of PC population depleting. Games likes Fortnite and Smite have done this mainly because on the PC side they were losing players. Look at games like CoD there are 10x amount of console players compared to PC players. There are also way more console players on Destiny 2 compared to PC players. So don’t come in here thinking that PC is a bigger gaming platform then Console. Maybe in some games that got ported over from PC to console. At the same time though games that have come out on both have way more players on console.

  • You can get a decent PC for the price of a PS5 or Series X. Also, what crack are you smoking to not believe PC is the biggest gaming platform? Also, what do you mean update your PC with new parts? I'm still using the same PC for multiple years and it runs D2 perfectly fine at max with over 120 FPS. You don't have to update your computer as often as you think, obviously if you want to squeeze the maximum performance out of every new game with the highest graphical settings then obviously you will update parts regularly but what rational person does that?

You do realize that a lot of people constantly upgrade their PC’s right? Also you’re going to tell me you get get a good PC for $500? Do you even know how much PC’s are going for right now? They are constantly going up in price. Yes you can get a PC for maybe $500 but it will not be good for multiple years. You can get a console and be set for 6+ years you can’t do that with a $500 PC. Also yes PC is not the biggest gaming platform there are way more people playing console compared to PC. The only games that have more people on PC are games that got ported over from PC like PUBG and Rust.

  • guess you dont know jack about wow lol the whole game is based on factions fighting and pvp not sure what rock you crawled out from and they have arena tournaments every season so yeah learn something about a game before you bring it up. Even when you were casually questing back in the day you would get ganked because its a pvp centric game.

Yes I know how WoW works. The game still didn’t thrive because of the PvP part of the game. WoW thrived because of their PvE part of the game. Questing and raids is what makes the majority of people play WoW. Borderlands is actually doing quite well without that game having PvP in it at all. Other popular games that are a MMORPG type of game like Genshin Impact is also doing very good without PvP. Now going back to WoW do you really think that the game has lasted this long because of the PvP aspect of the game? What about games like RuneScape granted not to the level of WoW. RuneScape has been a game for 20 years. You think RuneScape lasted this long because of the PvP part of the game?

  • Like I said the Majority of the players that play WoW do not play it for the PvP part of the game. They play it for the quests, farming for the pieces they need, and the raids. If you take away PvP from WoW the game would do just as good as it’s doing now. You take away PvP from Destiny 2 sure it will lose players. At the same time though did you ever think it will actually gain players back? If they get rid of PvP that means they can focus solely on PvE. Which will actually bring in and bring people back into the game. So yes they will lose players but they will also gain players.

  • Strawman. Getting rid of pvp will not guarentee pve’s success. But keeping pve shackled to a common sandbox with “competitive” pvp will guarentee pve’s failure. This game will never reach its potential with this version of pvp being dragged behind it like dead weight.

  • Considering destiny is still going fairly strong after using pve & pvp for idk 7years (or something like that) Pve isn’t shackled to pvp, they can balance separately when they want. So that’s not true. You are right, Bungie should stop treating pvp like dead weight, if they actually treated it like pve it’d be a lot better.

  • Pve is thriving. Pvp is limping along and holding pve back. It’s why that poll has a 70-30 split in favor of pve.

  • That poll does not mean people are in favour of it being removed... simply that they would not leave because it was removed.

  • Then look at the engagement numbers. Pve numbers are rock stable, while Crucible is withering away. Bungie knows it’s in trouble.

  • The engagement numbers are withering away everywhere. The game is losing overall concurrent players and is still on the dip, each season and DLC has less concurrent players than the last. Beyond Light a larger DLC than Shadowkeep got nowhere close to Shadowkeeps concurrent numbers. Just logging in and heading to the tower counts as a PvE number, and most of those players are probably just logging in to check if Banshee is selling anything.

  • No they aren’t. For nearly two years, pve has maintains a very stable cycle. At the start of the season pve numbers spike to about 1.2 million. Then stay there until abou the last month of the season. Then they dip to about 800k as most people exhaust the content. Then the new season starts. Rinse and repeat. Which is why Bungie is confident about their future and are goin forward with an expansion that will likely cost them a billion dollars...plus.

  •
Pve is thriving. Pvp is limping along and holding pve back. It’s why that poll has a 70-30 split in favor of pve.
It’s always around 70/30. And the only thing holding PvE is Bungie.

  • No it hasn’t. A new season starts next week. That usually means that pve engagement will shoot up to 1.2 million in pve... and pvp may get back up to around 400k. For the entire first season of Shadowkeep, the ratio was almost 50-50. Pve kept those numbers, while pvp pissed them away. Dropping to around 600k. Stadia came out in Nov. 2019. The game switched over to CBMM soon after, and player numbers cratered to about 300-400k across the franchise. Which is less than what Destiny 1pvp used to pull.

  • Color me surprised new PvE content releases and the PvE engagement shoots up? Wow its like thats the most obvious thing ever stated. Then what happens? it dies down and PvP goes up. Remove PvP... and you'd find the game worlds a whole lot more dead.

  • And this isn’t a straw man at all. It’s a concise restatement of your argument, which is that PvP has kept pve tethered — implying that untethering it will allow pve to spread its wings and soar, which is what I’m saying isn’t guaranteed, and imo is unlikely. Just look at the two games I have as an example.
