There is a massive upside to these changes, and I am not sure why Bungie has not mentioned it more:
Shaders will no longer drop duplicates from Bright Engrams
Right now, we basically always get duplicate shaders, but after these changes they will be on a knockout list just like everything else. As a result, every time we obtain a shader from now on, it will be one we don't have. That means we can potentially obtain every shader without spending any bright dust.
Now, is the bright dust hike still stupid overcompensation? Absolutely. But, this at least makes me feel a little better about it.

I wonder if shaders will even drop from Bright Engrams after this season? I could see them removing them from the BE loot pool and forcing us to buy them with bright dust. We shall see.
-
I don't even trust the knock out system because I've had a few beight engrams give me a duplicate ship or sparrow.

Apparently they're implementing dupe protection in the next season

It's been around for a while, but it's definitely not 100% guaranteed it seems.

Yeah I did hear about no duplicates.
