As someone else mentioned, it's likely Ether that gives them the long lifespans. The Fallen worship Prime Servitors as their creators and lifeblood and in turn the Servitors give them Ether, which described as "life sustaining" in lore. Each house has its own Prime Servitor and Archon Priest so logically, I'd say the symbiosis of Servitor/Fallen can make them almost immortal. Servitors were around during Whirlwind, and are described as beacons of hope when the Traveller left so they themselves are ancient and likely the reason why Fallen have lived so long without the Traveller.
This stuff is on the Destinypedia, I'm not this clued up on lore, I just did some reading. 😅
With Smallen now existing, it's probably a Grogu situation where the baby in the trailer is already 70+ years old.

 • It's also possible that Eliksni reach maturity rapidly, or even around the same time as humans, and simply live as long as they have Ether to survive. It's not entirely unheard of in fantasy, scifi or otherwise, to have a race that matures rapidly (over the span of a few years) but lives for hundreds of years, or matures at the rate of humans (over a period of 18-20 years) but lives for millenia.

 • That is true. I just wanted to go down the 'baby Yoda' route because that's more fun.

 • It really isn't though? It's more entertaining to go literally any other way. Oh, this thing will be an infant for decades? Welp, guess it's going to be some arbitrary "we have to protect them!" BS for the entire series then. Having them mature rapidly allows for a huge disconnect between physical and mental growth, which can be extremely interesting from a storytelling standpoint. Having them mature at the same rate as humans allows for a conflict between making friends with humans and understanding that, barring accidents, you'll outlive all of your human comrades by centuries at least, millenia at most. One offers the conflict of self vs self, the other offers the conflict of self vs nature, while the "infant for several decades" offers no interesting storytelling concepts at all aside from "they'll finally be growing into young children when we're old and grey". A fun concept doesn't always make for a good storytelling concept.

 • Dude, I think you're overthinking a little bit of fun on a forum. In terms of the game. Yes, you're probably correct. Logically, they'd grow up at their species rate then have their life extended when old enough to consume Ether - whether socially accepted by the House or from a maturity standpoint when their bodies could handle it, much like Lions and meat for example. No idea why you had to ruin the small bit of fun surrounding Grogu from The Mandalorian and applying it to Smallen. 😂

 • Because it wasn't a good concept with Grogu either, and was just an extremely arbitrary way of handling things. Long lifespan doesn't mean each stage of life is proportionally increased, and having it done that way is just a cheap shortcut to avoid writing anything of substance.
