The inherent mistake is the assumption that there's a split in focus to begin with.
Where are we, soon hitting 666 days without new or even recycled pvp maps? Years of rampant cheating without much results to show for it's prevention?
I would actually love to see pvp removed completely, with the inevitable slow ensuing realization from the pve community that the content quality is still the same (= bad) along all the lazy development practises bungo's solidified as years've gone by.
Or maybe not. Maybe there'll be the next scapegoat, or simple denial as the next cashverse check dings in.

At least Crucible got maps since Opulence. Gambit has had nothing new since Joker's Wild. The single round mode sucks, needs some way to combat invasions by the winning team as soon as the losing team gets their primeval, and at least a new map, boss, and/or exotic quest to help it out. I'd even take them bringing back the Reckoning armor sets. Bonuses and all. At least you could have variety with it and look cool after playing Gambit. Maybe an endgame activity (Like Prime). I mean, Crucible has Trials, Vanguard has GM's, but Gambit is forgotten until a quest needs something other than Strikes or Crucible.
