I know people love the PvP, but let's be real here. Destiny would not be what it is if Raids never existed. PvE has always carried this game and always will.

I would say the same for crucible. How many people would have played those raids if not for the loot incentive, and the very powerful loot incentive at that, to go and take into pvp? Trials carried destiny during house of wolves, and during periods where no new content was being released.

Not sure about you but during House of Wolves, I just played PoE even though I beat skolas the first week. I didn’t even try trials till Taken King and it lasted a round before my random lfg team rage quit because we lost.

Frankly, back in that time period things like raids were not particularly popular either, they still aren't, with the vast majority of the playerbase not engaging in them. Trials carried destiny in that it was consistently the reason that destiny was top 20 in the stream directory on twitch, which brought attention to it, and kept people playing. Same as what raids do nowadays because nobody is crazy enough to touch trials in the state its in.

I’ll admit I’ve tried several times and gotten close to flawless and it’s just so demoralizing being put up against full gilded flawless teams so regularly. I’ve gotten as close as 6 matches before, I guess I’m just not good enough. I can see the appeal, and wouldn’t want PvP removed it just desperately needs attention like the other core activities. I still remember fondly year 1 D1 leveling up Iron Banner to get new gear because the warlock armor was so sweet
