Bungie did this to protect the loot value of armor. Especially now that sunsetting is gone. If they allowed unlimited transmog, there is very little to stop most players from just taking one set of armor and endlessly leveling it up.... ...while all other armor just becomes raw material to be turned into ornaments. Bungie made this mistake in D1wuth weapon reforging/re-rolling and it nearly destroyed the loot value of the game’s weapons. People just sat in the Tower and fed the gunsmith currency like he was a slot machine.

  • No, they did this to make as much money as possible. You think they care if someone endlessly levels up one set of armor? They don't. You would still have to play the game to endlessly level up one set of armor. Bungie does NOT care as much about the health of the game as you think they do. That doesn't mean they don't care at all, but if their intentions were for the health of the game, other changes and updates would be made before rolling out this dumpster fire of a transmog system.

  • What? A multi million video game company wanting to warn money from useless cosmetic items? Surely not!
one set of armor and endlessly leveling it up....
I paid cash money for a brand new pickup truck twenty years ago - that I still drive. I still have the tools my father passed down to me, which I added to my own. I still live in the same home I've lived in... well for a long-long-long time. I am still with my sweetheart that I married all those years ago. I still drop into D1 every now and then just to play with the guns and gear I acquired years ago. I have stuck with Bungie since I became aware of them nearly 2 decades ago... Do you get my point?
People just sat in the Tower and fed the gunsmith currency like he was a slot machine.
You do realize that Bungie offered reforging solely to learn what weapon perks were valued most by >tens of thousands of players. We've seen the results of their "fact-finding" ever since.

  • You Realize that they are allowing unlimited use of transmog if you pay right? So its not that theyre protecting the value of armor more so inducing a grind that makes spending money look more appealing. Kellygreen once again licking the boot while spouting literal nonsense

  •
You Realize that they are allowing unlimited use of transmog if you pay right?
Yes....and at $10 a pop for enough materials to transmog one armor set? Very few people are going to make extensive use of it. That way they discourage you from using it, while letting you believe that its YOUR decision not to use it. Its called "nudging". If they actually wanted to milk this thing for cash, the would have made it very cheap....so that the barriers to using it were very low.
Kellygreen once again licking the boot while spouting literal nonsense
No. Kellygreen showing that he understands behavioral economics and how an incentive structure works. Which iis why he can see whether a system is designed to facilitate an action....or is trying to discourage an action. By making it painful, difficult and inconvenietnt to access. Bungie is making it inconvenient both in terms of cost-in-time...and cost-in-money to make use of. Because they don't really want you making widespread use of it.

  • This guy was so pro sun setting... nuff said... that didn’t work out well for Bungie. Now he is using pseudo intellectualism bulls hit to justify another awful decision by bungie. Shame.

  • Wrong once again your argument was that if transmog was unlimited that bungie would have an issue with getting people to go after new armor which is not backed by allowing players to pay to be able to do this. It doesnt matter the price if the issue was actually that unlimited transmog would break the game they wouldnt allow you to pay to do that.

Once again aware how this works im simply stating if your point was bungies actual concern they wouldnt add a way around it.

  • Then you don't understand how it works. Because the whole point to NUDGING is to keep your fingerprints off of it. You want to influence the decision in a particular way. Not strong-arm the person. That way the person accepts things because they believe they decided on their own to take that course of action....instead of being externally controlled. The whole point of this is to discourage its use, while preserving the "illusion" of choice. Because it is the pricing structure that influences the decision making.

  • So 10$ to do an entire armor set is supposed to be such a ridiculous price that no one ever considers? Kelly i fear youve engaged in 4/20 too much

That's not how nudging works. ...and thank you for confirming my suspicion that you didn't understand. The point is that the price is enough of a burden that it disincentivizes extensive use of it....but is a LOW enough price that the person feels that they are making the decision to STOP using it on their own. Rather than having that decision FORCED on them. Its why the cap to how many you can earn with in-game effort is getting more complaints than the $10. Because one is being forced....and the other isn't. That player ACCEPTANCE is what Bungie is after. Whereas if Bungie just said TWO and NO MORE.....there would be this constant low level of resistance and resentment. (cough, sunsetting, cough) By hardcore players trying to get the cap lifed..... ...and casual players complaining because they feel locked out by the level of grind.

  • Ok so kellygreens original point: unlimited transmog would break the game Bungie: literally 10$ bypasses the limit with ease And you imply its nudging and that people will use it but not alot? Have you played other games people will literally spend hundreds of dollars on cosmetics and not care about it. 10$ and someone can just handpick all the best looking gear for a character. Considering people will drop literally the same amount on a season pass and we get a new set of armour once a season... i think you either dont understand the market for cosmetics or are oblivious

  •
Bungie: literally 10$ bypasses the limit with ease
Apparently you haven't taken the time to do the math yet. No one in their right mind is going to spend the THOUSANDS of dollars necessary to transmog the entire loot table this way..... ...and the few nutty enough to do it, won't have any significant impact on teh game. The fact is that I understand what Bungie is doing better than you do. But you want to be "right" rather than understand. Which is why this place is so toxic...and why the CMs largely ignore it.

  • You understand what bungie wants thats what you say everytime even though most time they dont stay with what you say? See sunsetting and your diehard defense of it. And once again no one is going to transmog the entire loot pool. I didnt say that i said that 10$ and they could pick their favorite armour and not need to go after any new armour until a new set came out that they might like in which case its just another 10$. Stop playing dumb you just said yourself that unlimited transmog would eliminate the need to get new armour. That wouldnt require thousands of dollars
