Well I don't mean like "haha" funny more of like a rhetorical or ironic funny. I feel like the brothers in arms things gets misunderstood a lot. It isn't like they are actually brothers and it's easy to see a close relationship with someone develop into something more. Though, that being said; yes, they didn't have to be written as homosexual but it isn't exactly blaring. It's not their entire personality its just a trait of theirs, something that makes them more relatable to more of the community. The way their relationship is written is how it should be. You don't see them clinging on to each other in the tower or ever interacting for that matter. It's just subtle nods and hints in the characters dialogue and body language. It isn't supposed to be a big deal but it means a lot to a lot of people.
