  • Interesting perspective. I use a wide variety of weapons based on the activity, swords are OP for most activities, specifically the two swords that got nerfed. I exclusively use Lament for Battlegrounds as an example given it's high burst damage, high total damage, Champion melting capability, and health regen. In the Cosmodrome Battleground for example, most people sit in the back and try to chip away health, I'll go in full send and solo the boss with Lament without dying, the weapon is literally that good. The only downside to Lament is you can't kill from a distance, but that's only a detriment in cases where enemies are off the ground (such as Sepiks Prime and Hashladun) or in cases where there are severe penalties for getting too close (specifically Taniks). Falling Guillotine was also a top tier weapon and actually a part of one of my Master/GM Nightfall loadouts. It can chunk Champions with ease with very little ammo cost. The nerf to that sword is not decreasing damage, but increasing heavy attack cost, which is more than reasonable. So tell me, am I talking like a "non sword idiot"?

Yes you definitely are. Wow. 1 sword is insanely good and its exotic. About time. FG really isnt that good and matter of fact it sucks. It misses swings on bosses too often, it wastes damage by swinging in a circle. The uppercut swords are way more consistent. Either way, you mentioned a major issue with swords. Can't use lament on floating enemies. No projectile weapons are barred from effectively doing damage so ferociously. That alone deserves the right to melt. Along with high risk high reward. Didnt see swords in the proving Grounds GM. You cant use them in areas where youre damaged to death in 4 shots or less. They arent versatile. Theyre niche. They take huge skill the run across every activity. They were literal unused trash before. No other weapon type gets dicked harder and used less across all activities in destinies lifespan. Linear fusions were meaner than swords. Single bodyshotting over shielded guardians with sleeper, AND solo melting bosses ricochetting off the ground. Swords are only good in PvE amd only in some activities. Linears you could be safe. 100+m away. Doing sword damage.

  • I didn't use swords in the Proving Grounds GM, but have absolutely used them in certain GMs. Falling Guillotine is a top tier option in Exodus Crash for example, it is also a good option for Insight Terminus (both of which I got my first GM clears with swords). Falling Guillotine is also a top pick for solo dungeon content (Vorgeth, Zulmak, and Phalanx Echo), I used swords on these encounters for some of my solo flawless runs. Swords are also very potent in many raid encounters: Kalli, Shuro Chi, Morgeth, Riven, and Atraks. You can't use swords on all enemies, but when you can, it is a top option. But that's okay, you can stay in your little corner complaining that swords are getting a slight deserved nerf.
