Trial on PC....sure. But on consoles, the cheating problem is less of an issue. The biggest problem on the console version is the loot structure. Bungie drank their own kool-aid about it being for the best-of-the-best....and so the game offers NOTHING for the rank-and-file players that the playlists NEEDS to show up in order to keep it healthy. No one is going to show up, and get humiliated every week, and then walk away empty handed with only a "Get Good Scrub" to show for it.

Edited by GMDeece7: 4/16/2021 4:58:41 PMActually, if I remember from a previous twab, they are going to rework trials matchmaking, loot structure, and have a way for more solo players to play trials (note: it’s not going to be freelance. Apparently, it’s going to be some way for people to get trials teams. Also, I don’t remember which twab mentioned this.). But frankly, I’m going to be honest with everyone, I’m still have no intention of going into a playlist where I shouldn’t even think about going in and probably make people upset with me anyway. I get told to go die by teammates just by playing control on Xbox. Why the hell would I play trials just to make more enemies, and not just on the other team...

That was a blog earlier this year by Joe Blackburn. The same one that announced that sunsetting was being removed. Unfortunately what you experienced is all too common in competitive online games. Competition brings out the worst in some people, and the devs have little incentive to manage it beyond just keeping it from driving players away. The consoles have brands to consider, so they are more proactive (Sony has started recording audio of what goes on in chat). But at the end of the day, your approach is the best. Just don’t expose yourself to it. I’m like you. They’d have to overhaul Trials into something that almost isn’t recognizable, before I’d touch it. I just don’t need the toxicity and the aggravation, in something I’m doing for fun.

"Never expect a man to understand something when his paycheck requires that he not understand." Their livelihoods depend on their having you to pubstomp. Which is why they do it.
