This is a huge problem with Destiny. Build crafting and build implementation in this game are terrible. Builds don't feel very powerful and take forever to get off the ground. Having played Outriders for the past couple of weeks Destiny's builds are a complete joke.

  • I do think outriders has a much better gearing and mod system.

  • Your profile says you have a bungie account since 14 years. I’m genuinely curious: is outriders the first ever other mmo shooter you play since halo (I guess), and destiny?

I wouldn't really classify Outriders as an MMO--more of a Diablo with guns sort of game. My point was that in Outriders builds are extremely easy to get going. You really feel like you have some agency over your character and the direction you're choosing. The gear you dismantle earns you mods that you can swap freely in and out of your gear as you see fit. It's extremely cheap to do so and your skill tree can be reset at anytime free of charge. You're in charge and you just build things the way you want. This isn't the case in Destiny. Builds are ridiculous to get off the ground when you factor in the farming and rolls needed. Exotics don't usually feel like they're worth building around and if somehow the stars all align your build doesn't end up feeling that great anyways. It always feels like Destiny is kind of working against the player. The slog of the arbitrary level grind, the restrictions on everything, the insane costs of doing pretty much anything. Don't get me wrong, I love Destiny but recently it hasn't felt like they're setting me free to play in their sandbox. I'm to obey their rules and play their way. It feels more like a part-time job than it does a game and it's exhausting. That's why I was drawing comparisons to Outriders. They're pretty much saying, 'here's our game, go have fun'. It just felt refreshing despite the pretty brutal technical issues. And to answer your original question (went on a little rant there lol). No, I've played lots of MMOs over the years. Guild Wars 2, D1, The Division and a few others. You can't beat the gunplay, movement, graphics and so on in Destiny but the gear and the builds are pretty much shit.

I have to say I very much agree with everything you said. I just can’t see destiny as a MMO, more like an online game with some coop features. I see Division 1 for instance more of a MMO than destiny, since fireteam are larger, I can martchmake whatever content of the game, and I have more diversity in multiplayer modes.

  • I share the same feeling with builds as you I think

  • "Builds" in destiny are situational at best and on top most builds aren't useful or don't work in endgame content. they also rely on teammate's who don't care about your build to work around it to benefit from it and from my experience they don't
