Hey there. This sounds like a connection issue of some kind is occurring, and could be an internet service provider issue. Below are suggestions that may help with your issue:
1. Use a wired connection rather than Wi-Fi 2. Quit any program or turn off other devices that are streaming 3. Clear your console cache or, if on PC, verify the integrity of your game files. • I’m having the same issue. Players teleporting everywhere. Network diagnostics detect no issues on my end, 504 Mbps download, 11 Mbps upload, 0% packet loss, 25ms latency, hard-wired, Xbox Series X. My Netduma geo-filter indicates that I’m very often matched with EU players. I’m not sure why I, residing in Minnesota, would be matched with EU, in a Connection Based Matchmaking game type. Some serious work needs to be done with the matchmaking system. It’s just not working well.

 • What part of
As Destiny is the only game with this issue, it's a server-side issue
makes it sound like it's provider issue? One moment there is lag, the other moment everything runs smoothly. This is an extremely simplistic issue that exclusively happens with P2P connections. One person in the lobby has a poor connection, causing lag for most if not all players. And that one person isn't to blame either. Not all locations have a supreme connection as an option. You know what would fix this? Dedicated Servers. Here's a list of games I can play online with one or more players from different regions without issues: Anthem Astroneer Dead Island For the King The entire Gears of War franchise Generation Zero GTA Online Grounded Halo Master Chief Collection Human Fall Flat Minecraft Styx Shards of Darkness Wolfenstein Young Blood Sniper Elite 4 Ghost Recon Wildlands Ghost Recon Breakpoint The Division 1 and 2 Battleblock Theatre Borderlands Dying Light Far Cry 5 Final Fantasy 15 Comrades Forza Horizon 3 and 4 Sea of Thieves Space Enigneers The Hunter Call of the Wild Splinter Cell Convisction World of Tanks Crackdown Don't Starve Outriders We Were Here Destiny 2 is not on the list. If I can play indie games online with less problems than a triple A game, it most certainly is not a client or provider based issue.

 • Not all games are the same. Saying "this plays fine" is not a true test of your Internet. Please follow the info Bungie has kindly provided.

 • Not all games are the same indeed, but the issues are not all the same as well. If one match my net is good, and the other match it isn't, what would be happening to my net to make it this inconsistent? It's a matter of what is more likely to happen. If almost all online games give me no issues but one is, then it's most likely that the issue is on the one game that is giving issues. Or to use a metaphor; if 1 out of 100 people experiences no hearing loss after using headphones, while the other 99 do, where does the problem originate? Is the product faulty or do the 99 people just have sensitive ears? Besides, Bungies "info" tells me to contact the provider. In the past they have said there's nothing wrong. Upgrading is impossible in my location, meaning I'd have to go to the process of buying a new house with the sole intent of getting a better package from a different provider. All of that for the small chance that the issue is on my side.

 • I have the same problem. I have awful internet speeds and I noticed that Destiny uses an insane amount of upload bandwidth. It blows my mind and I just don't understand what is being uploaded. It's a 3v3 match and you need to upload 1.5Mbps? Am I uploading my graphics? This is the only game with the problem so until proven otherwise they have terrible code. It should not require that upload speed.

 •
I have the same problem. I have awful internet speeds and I noticed that Destiny uses an insane amount of upload bandwidth.
No it shouldn't upload that much at all. The reason it does is Bungie does not have Dedicated Servers and uses Peer to Peer networking that they initially developed back in the 2008ish Halo days. So for every person in the game, you send them all your information, and they send you all their information, which leads to a substantial amount of extra data being sent and received. For dedicated Host servers, you send and receive only to the server, so far less data needs to be pushed around and far less data needs to be processed by the PC or Console. This is why games like BattleField can have 64 player battles or TitanFall has 6v6 Battles with 32+ AI players (16+ per side) or Halo 5 has it's 24 player + AI enemies etc. Bungle with Peer to peer can't even do Gambit with 4 v 1.

 • Thanks for the info. That makes perfect sense as once abilities are activated the usage spikes. Talk about a poor initial decision sticking with the P2P networking. It must be incredibly proprietary and so entrenched in the game they can't easily change that. At least I would hope that is the case and they haven't made the decision to not address it. Unfortunately I can barely play the game due to this. As much as I want to it just makes it unbearable.

 • For Honor shipped as Peer to Peer. People were so annoyed that they boycotted the game over it. The Developers, with the help of Ubisoft the Publisher, tore out the Peer to Peer and replaced it with a Host Servers. https://kotaku.com/for-honors-dedicated-servers-make-a-big-difference-1823559981 So if there is a will, there is a way - except if your Bungie who doesn't care about our user experience.
