Hey bud I understand it’s April Fools but it’s not exactly nice to steal someone else’s artwork without their consent. You can either do one of two things completely up to you, you either can take this down and apologize or leave it up and look like a scumbag your choice.

He expressed his concerns with the affiliated artwork so out of respect; I’ll remove his illustration from this. I did make an attempt to credit the artist, however..! :-)

Which he pushed you to remove the artwork despite fair use rule. As such he is in violation of your freedom to post ideas and artwork. It's the same as copying a meme format from reddit and showing it to your friends. You even tried to credit him which he rejected despite his idea to post the image publicly.

The artwork was meant to serve as a visual representation, not a means to support the entire concept. For him; it was more of a personal thing, and less of a legal thing. Permission or not, I did directly link & credit him in his artwork. I never took it and said look what I did. I consider myself a reasonably nice person so hey it doesn’t matter so long as my Siva Warlock idea continues to evolve & people like it. :-)
