As someone who is a hardcore grinder/collector for this game (at least I think so), I love this idea. It helps push people to grind for something if they REALLY want it, and it doesn’t disrespect the people who earned it. I’m a huge fan of Dresstiny, so this is right up my alley. Great idea!!
If people still didn’t like the idea, they could even add some sort of symbol (on the icon) to show the person didn’t have the original piece when it came out. Something similar to the way they changed the holographic color on the sweeper and mic drop emote, but not as drastic of a change.

I agree with making them different than the original. Cosmetics that show “you were there” are important. You can bet I’ll be rocking a future war cult Titan as soon as transmog unlocks.

I thought of something like that, but I'd be concerned that some armour sets would end up with "ornamental" versions of armour that the community may see as more desirable, with hardcore grinder annoyed they missed out because they got too much loot! I thought something simpler like red lines in the character screen when the ornament is equipped rather than the default black pattern we see behind the armour piece

Honestly I’d be down for any of that. Really great ideas! Hopefully bungie could do something like this in the future.

If that were to be a thing should there really be a difference to the ornament? If they want to show they were “there” they could put on an emblem or stat tracker to show it. Given the nature of transmog allowing a player to readily mix and match ANY armor price they choose with out stat losses a player should have the opportunity to eventually get any of the armor in the game as transmog. Maybe each week have ada-1 sell one random transmog set for each class for 5 transmog tokens.
