I could have written this exact post a few years ago. I've used the same analogies, too. LOL. This is one reason why I think there should be a choice of CBMM or SBMM for the main playlist (which is currently Control). Both modes have their merits, but a choice would make everyone happy. I started out like you. I avoided PVP. I was terrible at it. I actually hid during one match because I was so bad and just wanted it to be over. During CBMM, I got better by playing at off-hours when sweaties were less likely to be playing. When Crucible switched back to SBMM, I improved quickly because I was able to work on my aim and learn skills from my peers. I started to love the game. It takes skill, strategy, and it's unpredictable. I kept climbing to higher skill levels. I finished the weapons quests and dove into Survival. I finally earned Unbroken. I'm still a potato, despite my title, but I don't mind CBMM anymore. I'd prefer a choice between SBMM and CBMM for the main playlist, though. If there was a choice, I'd play both.
I actually hid during one match because I was so bad and just wanted it to be over.
Haha, that’s exactly what happened to me this weekend - halfway into the round I was so frustrated with it all, but didn’t want to bail on my team, so I just stood at the spawn point and thought, “screw it, it doesn’t make any difference if I run around, hide or stand still, the result is the same”. The round ended several seconds later in mercy, it was something like 8 to 79, and my personal result was 0.0 K/D.

 • Wow, that is a really unbalanced match! Next time Mayhem comes around, play that. It's a good way to get used to Crucible because everyone has constant supers. You'll learn a lot about how people move around maps, how to use different supers, grenades, etc, and how to avoid getting killed. You'll still die a lot. It's just silly fun.

 • Yeah, the name speaks for itself)) Tried it out at some point and it really is something else. When it comes to skill, I personally found (just yesterday), that Elimination was the most enjoyable game mode for me - we've run several matches with a friend of mine, and what I noticed was that the majority of those matches were actually great, due to the fact that most opponents were more or less on the same skill level as us. At some point I even felt a surge of excitement, as I was the last one standing against the last one of our opponents - excitement, because it was moderately challenging, but I knew I had a chance if I played well. Sure, there were a couple of matches, in which we were completely wiped out in less than a minute every round, but most of them were close calls, ending in a match-point round, and it just shows how balanced those matches were. That's exactly what I think PvP is supposed to be.

 • Elimination is my favorite right now, too. The rounds you describe, where it could be anyone's game, are also my favorite. I love the feeling of winning by playing at my best, and when I lose I know it was fair.
