I’ll probably give it a shot, but I don’t think I’ll enjoy it too much. Catching Pokémon doesn’t look like it takes place in battle, but if that’s the case, what’s the point of battling? There’s only one town in the whole game it sounds like, which probably means a big open world with a lot of boring empty space.
Still, if they want to make an open world spinoff series, I’m all for it—as long as that means the main series gets to stay as is. We’ll get Legends to sate the open world junkies, and Gen IX will stay a linear RPG, as it should.
If Gen IX goes open world, too, though, then I will be very upset.

yeah the only issue with all these BOTW clones imo is that they’re all just so empty
-
I’ve got a lot of issues with them, but that’s definitely one of the bigger ones. I’d rather have a small space where every detail is significant, than wide open spaces of nothing.

I just hope that it’s not like the Wild Area from Sword and Shield. That place was too small. The raids were a cool idea, though.

I think both were pretty poorly executed though, but I am a stinky poopy solo player so like, solrock

I think the Wild Area was the perfect size myself.

To each their own! I personally just thought they could have made it bigger
-
Any bigger and I feel it would’ve just been tedious to cross. You’ve got to roam around it a lot to complete the Pokédex.

I don’t think open world will spill into the main line. With Pokémon’s broad reach in media, I’m betting that Legends is their way of introducing new fans to the main line. That said, it wouldn’t surprise me if some aspects of legends spill over.

Yeah, I’ve got faith in GameFreak on this one, but I still can’t shake my concern. Not with the way every other non-open world RPGs have gone lately.
