Amber enters the bar, a large brown kitten with lighter swirly patterns in its fur slipping inside by her feet. After nearly tripping over the little ball of fluff, she sighs in exasperation and moves further in. This time, she takes a seat at the bar near Blaze.
“Hey, Blaze! How’re things?”
English
-
He glances over and barely puts his sunglasses on in time. “Oh. Hey.”
-
Amber leans one elbow on the counter, blinking at Blaze’s sunglasses curiously. “You doing okay? I’m not glowing, am I?” The kitten sits by Amber’s stool, gazing up at her with wide, golden eyes.
-
He shakes his head and sniffles. “No, I jubst hab a cold or somebing.”
-
“Ooh. Not sure what that has to do with the sunglasses, but I hope you—“ she takes her arm off the counter, subtly rubbing it off on her coat “—get better soon.”
-
“Oh the sunglasses...those are...ub....nothing. You okay?”
-
Amber shrugs. “As okay as I can be. But what about you? You sure you’re well enough to tend the bar?”
-
“No.....I’ve paid people to take over for the day.”
-
Her eyes briefly pop to the side toward the others running the bar. “Shouldn’t you be getting some sleep, then?”
-
“Yeah but....” he yawns, and Amber sees his obvious fangs. “People really like talking to me.”
-
“I mean, true, but—“ Amber stops, staring at his fangs before his yawn fades. She clears her throat. “But, um...”
-
“Yeah yeah yeah.....I should think about my health and all.” He sighs.
-
She leans a little away. “Uh... yeah, we should. I mean—“ There is a sudden clatter of glasses being pushed against each other from where the cups are stored.
-
Blaze looks over and stands up quickly. “Whab the hell?”
-
The fuzzy kitten that entered along with Amber has half of its body hidden behind the glasses, leaving only its bushy tail visible. It pushes glasses out of their places and ready to fall. Amber hops off the stool. “Chip!”
-
Blaze sighs and tries to pick him up. “Is this little guy yours?”
-
Chip, the kitten, growls playfully when he discovers he is in Blaze’s grasp. He wiggles around, trying to free himself. Amber remains standing, warily watching. “I’m so sorry about that. No... at least, I didn’t claim him. I found him in a box of pastries I had bought during Christmas, and he’s followed me around ever since. Chip didn’t break anything, did he?”
-
Blaze shrugs and tries to lightly pet Chip. “Ah. Well whatever he broke won’t be an issue. He’s kinda cute though.”
-
Chip stops wiggling and pushes his head up into Blaze’s hand. A deep purr emits from him as the rest of his body almost goes limp. “That’s the only thing making me tolerate him, honestly,” Amber huffs, offering to take Chip back. “He’s been all kinds of trouble. Not like any cat I’ve ever met.”
-
Blaze chuckles and hands chip over. “Yeah...I can tell. He seems worth it though.”
-
Amber hesitates, eyeing Blaze’s hands, then quickly takes Chip into her arms. The kitten gives no protest and contentedly begins gnawing at a button on her sleeve. “He’s been good company, for sure,” Amber says after stroking his swirling coat. She clears her throat again. “So... are you sure you’re okay?” Her head turns to the side so she almost looks at Blaze through the corner of her eye.
-
Blaze sniffles and nods. “Yeah are you?” He suddenly coughs into his arm and his glasses fly off, and he looks at Amber with his bright red eyes. “....uhhhhhh.......”
-
Chip mews quietly, eyes wide with interest; even he seems to know something is up! On the other hand, Amber takes a cautious step back. “Honestly, just hoping you’re getting ready for some cosplay event,” she replies uncertainly.
-
Blaze puts his hands up in a sort of surrender. “Hey, hey uh...eheh I wish...uhm...I don’t bite...uhm, for the most part....”
-
Amber shifts Chip into her left arm, making her right hand free. She jumps a little when Blaze lifts his hands. “That is not comforting.” Her voice is low, her gaze watching the barkeep for any other sudden movements. “You’re seriously a vampire?”
-
“Yes.” He nods slowly. “I’m also not about to attack you, so chill out?”
