Hey, community. We're currently investigating FPS issues on PC.

Last night, AMD released Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.6.1 that fixes some Radeon Graphics products that were experiencing lower than expected performance in Destiny 2.
AMD users may want to change their Settings > Preferred Software Version to Recommended + Optional for future updates.
In our TWaB blog post, we acknowledged that we made some major engine changes with the launch of Beyond Light - while working from home. Due to the pandemic, we haven't had access to our PC compatibility lab to do in-depth testing.
We've been making improvements with each release even though they aren't called out in patch notes, and we're working with our partners to help address these issues and are optimistic about the future.

We have looked over the data post 3.0.2 launch:
-- High-end users saw big improvements: we're about halfway back to pre-Beyond Light perf.
-- Mid-range systems didn't see much improvement.
-- Low-end and laptops didn't see much improvement.
We're continuing to investigate and look for solutions toward better performance.

We released Update 3.0.2 that optimized Lighting on PC GPUs to help increase performance.
-- Many folks have mentioned turning off the Shader Cache in the NVIDIA Control Panel. Does this help with performance?
We believe we found a few issues related to light probes that have led to GPU performance degradation. We're still investigating and hope to have a resolution in January.

Please use this thread to help us track down what is causing the issue by:
1. Posting when and where you are having FPS issues in the game
2. Quitting out of all open apps and browsers while playing to see if there are any improvements
3. Posting your PC specs with your DxDiag by following the instructions in the spoiler tag

• Press (Windows Key + R) to bring up the Run dialog box, enter this command “dxdiag” without quotation marks.
• Click on “Save all information”.
• Copy the text and use a text dump website (i.e. PasteBin.com) to paste the information. Please don't use Google Drive, Dropbox, or another similar service.
• Create a link and post it here with your PC specs

Additionally, below are some suggestions that may help FPS issues:
1. Verify the integrity of your game files in the Steam app.
2. Remove your CVARS.xml file.
3. Try lowering your graphics settings, capping your FPS, lowering your FOV, and changing your Window Mode to Windowed.
4. Turn VSYNC on and/or off.
5. Lower the clockspeed of your GPU.
6. Lower your hz on your monitor.

12. Use your laptop's Power cable.
13. Disable ALL non-100% essential background apps/services.
14. Disable any CPU/RAM overclock in the BIOS/UEFI.
15. Reduce mouse polling rate to 500ms or below

1) Significant performance drops and stuttering in various areas. Can always be reproduced in the Tangled Shore at Thieves' Landing. FPS holds steady in the 40's. During these extreme performance issues, GPU and CPU utilization are both relatively low. This occurs regardless of which power profile is being used for the system; I normally play with the "AMD Ryzen High Performance" power profile. My PC is a Ryzen 9 3950X, Radeon RX 6900 XT, 64GB RAM, with a PCIe Gen 4 NVMe on a fresh Windows 10 installation. Prior GPU on the same system was a GTX 1080, and it had no performance issues in D2. After replacing the GTX 1080 with the RX 6900 XT the performance in D2 dropped significantly. As a last resort in troubleshooting this issue, I formatted all drives and reinstalled Windows 10 prior to reinstalling the game only to see no difference in D2 performance. 2) All other apps and non-necessary background processes are shut down when the issue occurs. Applicable points from the "suggestions" list have been tried with no change in performance. 3) DxDiag: https://pastebin.com/smiALVRK I'd like to note that the drop in performance seems to be similar to a drop in performance seen in CryEngine 3 games when running on AMD GPUs - this drop in performance in CE3 games seems to be related to low GPU utilization during drawcalls having higher zpass and shadows operations. This is purely speculation, but perhaps an issue in AMD's driver is causing the performance issues in both D2 and CE3, and something about higher drawcall operations and some sort of bottleneck occuring during those operations might be a commonality between both CryEngine 3 and Destiny 2's engines. Perhaps Bungie could leverage AMD in some way to help sort this is out, AMD might make a driver adjustment, and more than one game will get fixed. ;)
