Hey,
I searched google for the quest steps in beyond light and there it stated that on the final task you have to kill stuff with precision final blows and shotgun final blows. But nothing with guardians, even though you get more progression towards the step.
Can you provide a screenshot of the task?

I would suggest that you delete the quest and pick up the new version of it feom Shaw Han. There you have to kill a some ads, then have ability kills, get some kills on europa and then defeat opponents in gambit or crucible. Yes this would be the beyond light version. Otherwise have you looked to the tower, the exotic vendor on the side where the vault is? I'm not sure but probably you can just go there and buy the chaperone.
