Bungie has to come to a point where reality actually sets in facing the truth that they are literally nothing without Activision. They have become an embarrassment to AAA gaming companies showing they don't know how to manage a game by themselves and the best they can offer 4 years into the game is the base game again? You know, where Luke lost 80% of the player base because of his arrogance and Bungie straight out lied saying the player base was lying about the huge drop-off? Bungie is all washed up and Luke did absolutely nothing for this franchise in 4 years other than lead the game back to the base game that had no substance and con the fanboys that they "will do better". We all know this TWAB"S are ignored so this BS "feedback is given to them" doesn't work anymore knowing how fake this compnay has become.

 • At least the base game had the perception of unrealised potential and prospects of improvement and growth, and being worked on my a team with passion and drive to realise that potential. Now, 4 years later it’s obvious that the potential has been squandered, and had been stripped of all but the minimum of resources, both financial and manpower. Basically, it’s blatantly obvious that Destiny isn’t a priority for Bungie anymore. And a game like this is destined for collapse when it’s not the developers main priority and focus. This shift of focus is clear from their decision to continue with D2 rather than working on a full sequel. It’s far cheaper, easier and lucrative to just continue to release minimally viable seasons and a half assed full priced expansion once a year than to dedicate the resources necessary to develop and promote a new game. Tldr; in the grand scheme of things, the game is actually in a far worse place now than it was at release.

But, it would have been smarter to actually put the resources into the game, and by doing so they would have made that money back and then some with a much larger player base being more willing to invest their time in the game. When we look at the new light system, the pandemic, a new expansion? This game should have up in the millions of players, not struggling just to keep what player base they have that is a lot less than that. Maybe they need to actually wake up and smell the coffee.

 • You’re right, to a degree, but working on a sequel requires far more financial and manpower investment and carries far more risk. It’s more important not underestimate how much it costs and how much effort it takes to create a brand new game. Especially considering Bungie are now independent and would carry the full cost and risk of a sequel. Everything else you’re totally correct. I see a lot of Bungie apologists quoting the daily logins as evidence of the good health of the game. But the fact of the matter is that daily logins as a function of total tracked accounts have never been lower. And at a time when half the world is stuck at home in lockdown with nothing to do and only 3 months into a brand new yearly expansion, it’s especially damning.

 •
but working on a sequel requires far more financial and manpower investment and carries far more risk.
True, but history shows us that the amount of content in the game has never been the issue. It's the lack of quality content and this company thinks bigger is better and can't even see that it hasn't worked out for them at all. Take BL as an example, you have this big map but barely anything worth doing. Then when I look at things like Dreaming city when it released I can't help but think who the hell is calling the shots in this game because they are not helping this game one bit. So when you say they have to watch their resources I'm think how much are they actually wasting creating content like this, and the season passes?

 • That’s why I’m saying Destiny isn’t the priority. Let’s be honest, their content output per season over the past year or more has been lacklustre at best, both in terms of quality and quantity. Realistically, it can’t have required much in the way of manpower to create. The seasonal activities are all pretty rote and homogenous. Each one is little different from the last. The seasonal vendor/upgrade screens and systems are all exactly the same as the previous seasons. They’re also relatively risk-free as they’re only around for 3 months, at which time Bungie can offer their apologies and promises of listening to feedback if it’s poorly received. Like I said, the incoming revenue stream generated from their current model versus the investment and effort required is perfect for a game which is being treated as little more than a cash cow to cover company operating costs and financing other projects they care more about.

 • Ego! Some people have it bigger than their brains. Once Ego is hurt, the resulting path is damaging to all. Once Ego sets in, it will result into Hubris. That's why this game is going nowhere.

 • At least it wasn't anywhere near as bad as it is now 4 years ago. The game used to have some people that actually were paying attention to the player base and had an idea of what the player base wanted. There weren't just pretending they were listening as the one at the helm now. To me, there is a difference between listening and actually hearing what's being said or asked for. It's just a matter of being willing to be open to suggestions, and at this point, the earplugs were put in and this company is saying we are not listening or hearing anything the player base says.

Different time and different game. I can't say the same thing for this one we have now. I don't even know what this is now.

 • Not even they know what this game is. They have been pretending they know what they are doing and it's clear that they don't.

 • Game: Is dead. Bungie: Yeah, let's add some gimmick titles, that'll do the trick!

 • He made money, that’s all the upper brass care about. If he didn’t, he’d be gone, no doubt.
