Everything in this game is designed to artificially extend the play time.
The game is rigged and stuffed with tricks and errands to achieve that.
That's how Bungie make their 1 inch deep content work when it's spread 3 miles wide.
Now add to that the pitiful sunsetting scheme and what's left in this game that's worthy of our free time?
If anything, the only upside is the gunplay but that's not enough to keep the interest in playing this game more than a couple of hours per week.
