If I have a Bygones with Outlaw and Kill Clip that I can use for all of D2 what incentive is there for me to even try its new Beyond Light counterpart, Hailing Confusion, which doesn't roll with any damage perks? None. I keep using the same God roll gun I've been using for the last 2 years and complain about the lack of loot to grind for because nothing is going to be better than a Bygones with Outlaw and Kill Clip. And the only way to get me to grind for new loot is to come up with some pinnacle level gear that is better than Outlaw and Kill Clip. This was the player mentality that Bungie was up against before they decided to sunset gear.

  • The solution was to make new pulse rifles that played differently that could roll with the same perks, or to make new and interesting perks for those new weapons. The solution was not to force players hands and ruin all gear going backwards and forwards.

They come up with new perks and players complain it's not better than the same perks they've been using on every weapon since D2 started.

I literally state,
that played differently
If that’s a re-skin, Destiny would only be able to have one of each archetype. Furthermore, if players aren’t interested in your new perks, that means they aren’t interesting. There were/ are a LOT of garbage perks in this game. Sunsetting took away the combinations people enjoyed and forced us onto pools of weapons with awful combinations. That’s not a solution, that’s amputating a perfectly working arm because you want someone to use the other. You’ll call that a poor analogy, but is it really? There is currently thousands of hours of wasted dev time STILL IN THE GAME, in the form of obsolete gear, while the game STILL doesn’t have enough interesting gear. It absolutely beggars belief.

  • I like that amputation analogy. Seems quite accurate to me.

  • I discussed all these points in my OP. You really want me to do that again?

  • Is it really about power creep though? Or is it more about getting players to venture beyond their set perks on each weapon type? Bungie has tried repeatedly to buff less popular perks while even sometimes nerfing very popular perks and it did nothing to shift players away from what they know and use exclusively for that weapon archetype. Sunsetting seems more like their path to regain control over the meta narrative and create a new playing experience.

  • Well, like I said I discussed this in my original post. It is 100% about letting players grind everything again. People keep coming up with
"everybody is looking out for outlaw / kill clip or outlaw / rampage because those are the strongest perks."
At any single time Bungie can make Outlaw / rampage / kill clip three of the worst perks in the game. Right now kill clip does around 30% extra damage (could be less now). What if Kill Clip would only provide 10 or 15%? Would people still pick those perks? Some people would still pick it. Other people might want to look out for perks that make their weapons more consistent. and therefore making it easier to get crits.
"But nerfing isn't fun!"
At this point not a single Europa weapon has Kill Clip. I would rather have a nerfed version of kill clip than no version at all. I 100% don't get the power creep argument. Because at every single point Bungie can make the best perk in the game the worst perk. They can make "meh" perks like Underdog the most wanted perk there is if they for example quadrupled the reload speed. They can make kill clip give 2% extra damage (NOT SAYING THEY SHOULD! I'M SAYING THEY CAN!). Same with weapon archetypes. Dire Promise was considered the absolute best of the best. Now it is okay. High impact hand cannons used to be bad. Now they are absolutely S tier. Like I said: Sunsetting was never needed, because power creep doesn't exist in this game.

  • It seems like Bungie is moving towards keeping the situational damage perks (e.g., Vorpal, Disruption Break, and Surrounded) or create more, and either limit what weapon types and archetypes get the flat damage buffs or phase them out completely except on Exotics.

True. But I don't feel it is needed. I think a lot of people prefer Kill Clip to be only giving 10 or 15% extra damage, than for it to be removed from the game. I truely hope Bungie comes to their senses and reverses, slows down or stops Sunsetting from now on. :)

  • To add to the discussion I find the topic of meta perks funny since the competition to things like rampage and outlaw are things like firmly planted. Obviously not all of it is like that but most of those perks are just minor improvements that by their nature should have just been mods with armor 2.0 if not sooner.
