I Defended Sunsetting Before - It Feels Bad Now

I understood the premise behind sunsetting when it was first talked about. I liked the idea of having a new 'Recluse' every now and then, and getting new and interesting perk combinations without constant sandbox tuning (read: nerfs), and avoiding power creep. I know that there's been a lot of hiring (and there continues to be), and that the pandemic has certainly kneecapped the development process. But losing my old weapons but having to grind them again feels bad. As a solo player, I finally got a great roll on the Last Wish bow last season, but now it's going to sunset but I have to get it again each season/year? I like the idea of refreshing a perk pool to make older content viable (to an extent), it creates an incentive to see if I can find a new roll I love. But refreshing the perk pool for Waking Vigil when I can't use my masterworked dragonfly Waking Vigil doesn't excite me, it makes me want to use the roll that's collecting dust in my vault. Sunsetting was a risk, but I feel like it didn't work. If there was a separate item type that pinnacles and other 'Recluses' belonged to, that has a power cap, but all legendaries from this point on don't get sunset, that would maybe work. Or make pulling a sunset legendary cost an enhancement prism to bring to the current power cap so it's not just free to upgrade them. I love Destiny, and I just want this game to be the best it can be. I just think sunsetting feels really bad in its current form, and it makes me not want to grind out weapons during this expansion given that they'll be sunset by the next expansion anyway.
