Night & Day (Story)

}{}{ | ”Of all the places that I could have gone to go tonight. A casino is the one that I would have last on my list. Especially if I have to gamble to earn something, even more so if it’s against an old friend.” ~ Silas Mori | }{}{ | Gambit, Memento Mori | }{}{ | Silas opened the casino door, his hands were shaking, this place would be the last one that he would have gone to. Yet sadly this was the reality that he was faced with. His wife was seemingly dying, she currently is in a delirious state of consciousness. This all happened a week ago, first she stopped eating, then she stopped sleeping. Soon she lost her ability to swim, and her water breathing along with it. Both of these were traits that she was born with. | }{}{ | Silas dragged Adria over to the bar, he propped Adria’s seemingly unconscious body on a chair and sat down beside her. The bartender walked over to the two of them. | ”Well well well, if it isn’t old Silas Mori. What brings you back here?” | Silas: ”My wife, and please Aurelius, don’t call me old.” | Aurelius: ”What about her, she just looks tired from what I could tell.” | Silas: ”Try and wake her up then, why don’t ya.” | }{}{ | Aurelius tries to wake Adria up to no avail. The other patrons observe the scene with slight intrigue. One of them walks over to Silas, his hand placed on his revolver. They sit next to Silas, their jacket just barley staying on as they climb into the seat. | }{}{ | ”So, your the famous Silas Mori that everyone’s talking about? | Silas: ”Fame is fleeting, and I really don’t care for it. Now tell me what you want before I put a bullet through your head.” | ”No need to be rash friend, I just want to help, your wife doesn’t seem too good. | Silas: ”How exactly can you help? Sorry if that came off rude.” | ”I’ll tell you during the game, ok?” | }{}{ | }{}{ | ”Truth is....” | }{}{ | }{}{ | Silas and the patron walked over to a table. Adria was hauled over there along with a tank of water. The two sat down and began to discuss their arrangement. | Silas: ”How exactly is a tank of water going to help her? She’ll drown if you do this!” | ”I know, just play the game, and then I promise she’ll be returned to you.” | The two of them started their game of billiards. Adria was currently being lowered into the tank of water. Silas played with a good degree of accuracy at first, but slowly began to falter as time went on. The two patrons took fifteen minutes to finish their game of billiards. They decided to settle it quickly with a game of cards. | }{}{ | The hands were dealt and Silas began to plan his move when the tank shook violently. The patron laughed as Silas felt a growing sensation of anger and fear rise in his chest. He quickly managed to outplay the patron, who began to grow more and more afraid as time went on. | His face contorted with each scream. The first scream brought nothing with it. The second likewise was accompanied by silence. The third was partnered with a shaking of the tank, this time it was calmer. The fourth brought upon nothing, the final one was met with silence, the tank had grown still. | }{}{ | }{}{ | ”The game was rigged from the start.” | }{}{ | }{}{ | Silas went over to the patron and grabbed him by the shirt collar, his smug face turned sour as Silas drew his pistol. The tank was brought outside to a nearby patch of grass. A freshly dug grave had been made a few days prior. Silas aimed his pistol at the patron and opened fire. One sharp sound echoed through the night. The patron fell to the ground dead, the smug look still on their face. | }{}{ | Silas went to the tank and opened it, Adria looked up at him, relieved. The color of her scales had returned to her. Silas lifted her out of the tank and a card flew out of his vest pocket as he walked away from the casino. From the hell that he was raised in. | }{}{ |
