The essence has always disappeared from inventories after it ends.
That's been a thing since the event was created.

The last time i had it in my fault from last year and started with 150 essence this one so i dont think it was always there but just sad i waisted so much time and on the last day of the event i sadly couldnt play if i could have checked there
