If Sunsetting is gonna stay then it’ll need some SERIOUS reworks.

Let me start off by saying that I HATE Sunsetting. I think it’s a terrible system and to be quite honest it makes me not care about loot most of the time, and whenever I do get a good roll on something it just reminds of Sunsetting and ruins my mood. That being said it seems we’ll be stuck with this system for the foreseeable future so it could at least get some improvements to make the whole ordeal less painful. 1. If a certain weapon is still in rotation then remove the power cap on older (sunset) versions of that weapon. I have a couple nice rolls for the Bite of the fox sniper, unfortunately they have been sunset. Now, I was fortunate to get the exact same roll during season of arrivals IB, however my friend wasn’t so lucky. This version of the sniper and the sunset version are exactly the same so just remove the power cap so that people don’t have to regrind to get the same gear. Having to regrind for something you already have is not enjoyable at all and feels like a huge waste of time. 2. Make the weapon that are currently available better than what is sunset. I remember people that were arguing in favour of Sunsetting were constantly talking about how “Sunsetting will let Bungie makes more crazy strong weapons since they won’t have to worry about powercreep”. Well so far I’m not impressed. Other than Falling Guillotine and Temptation’s Hook (2 weapons that actually made me think that maybe Sunsetting wouldn’t be so bad), nothing seems strong enough to demand the loss of all our gear. I often find myself looking at older weapons and just wishing I could use them instead of what’s currently available. There is a difference between making people want to use certain gear, and forcing them to. Add a bit more appeal to the gear that’s in the loot pool at the time. For example: Weapon’s that are currently not sunset have and extra 2 masterwork stats (or mid slot or perk slot, anything really.) for the duration of their active lifespan. Once that weapon gets sunset the extra feature is removed it disabled. 3. Remove Armour Sunsetting. This was stupid from the very beginning and should just be scrapped. Get rid of it. Unless Bungie is going to make infusion dirt cheap (basically a bit of glimmer only) and masterworking cheaper as well then armour Sunsetting has no place in this game. Conclusion: I still think that Sunsetting is dumb and should be removed. That being said these changes (mainly number 1 and 3) would at least make this shit smear of a system a bit more bearable. Feel free to add your own recommendations. Edit: I thought I’d add this point that several of you have brought up. 5. Don’t sunset gear from destinations that have not been sunset. As it is right now, the dreaming city and the moon are somewhat pointless. Why go to a destination if it’s gear is useless?

With all due respect: No. No....and No. Before I explain why, let me say this. The fact that we are having to have this conversation, and the fact that the community is upset....IS 100% BUNGIE'S FAULT, AND THEY DESERVE THE ANGER.. But not for the reasons you state. Sunsetting is not the "problem". The problem is that Bungie FAILED to do something the right way from the start of the game. Failed to educated the player base as to WHY it was necessary.. Promised something that it could NEVER deliver on. Kept that CHARADE going for 5 years.....before finally having to walk it back when they were forced to admit that they were destroying their own game. As for the player base.....You have a right to be mad. You have a right to be frustrated. But if you want to still be playing this game three years from now, you need to accept that sunsetting is **necessary** for the health of the game. 1. All loot games sunset their gear. They are just better at HIDING the fact that they do it, and don't have to call ATTENTION to it. Because they dont' STUPIDLY promise their players that they'll get to keep stuff forever...and endlessly level it up for the life of the game. It was not the player's responsibility to understand that this was dumb....it was Bungie's....and they dropped the ball. 2. Sunsetting is necessary to avoid having power problems either destroy the game play.....or destroy the loot system. Its why your second point is a problem. If you keep making things more and more powerful. The player eventually becomes so powerful that they make a joke of the game. That is fun for about 10 minutes. Then its gets boring and people stop playing. If you try to withhold power to keep that from happening....people get frustrated because there is no reason to chase loot. The game gets boring (last year) and people stop playing. If you try to retun the game to the excess level of power, you force players with the overpowered gear to have to use it all the time (and destroy any build variety)....and you make the game either tediously difficult or unplayable for those WITHOUT that overpowered gear. People get frustrated...and they stop playing. 3. Sunsetting allows developers to manage power in these kinds of games in a way that doesn't destroy the game. (Its like an exhaust system in a gas-powered car. You have to VENT the products of combustion, so that they don't poison it....and stop it from continuing. So Sunseting VENTS power from a loot game, so that the developers can keep giving you power to chase after. The reason you don't notice it in other games is because the devs dont' call attention to it. So you don't see that they are taking power away from you in one area of the game....and giving back to you somewhere ese. Every successful loot game is a "loot treadmill". That is the NATURE of this kind of game. 4. Armor has to be sunset just like weapons. EVERY form of player power that is PROGRESSIVE (e.g static forms of power, like character abilities, is exempt) has to be sunset or you will BREAK the game over time. You will either get power creep....or a soul-sucking power drain that leaves the game devoid of power to chase. At worst the game will self-destruct. At best you'll get these wild pendulum swings of power (sound familiar?) from one extreme to another. Until the devs either blow up the game (Destiny 1) or they paint themselves in to a corner....and there is nowhere else to go. The game becomes unsustainable. Unmanageable....and dies with a whimper instead of a "bang". Which is where The Division 2 is right now. They chased Bungie down this same rabbit hole...and that game is slowly dying right now. I'm trying to play through its current season and the game is straining and struggling trying to find me people to play with on PSN.
