For being an open world massive AAA game, these planets are small.

  • It is open world and AAA. The massive part is contestible I guess but depends on perspective really. Many people are over expecting when they hear terms like 'open world' or 'massive' Open world merely means open spaces instanced or not that are non linear and explorable at a players own pace and discretion. Massive depends on perspective. If we were to add all the playable spaces together including strikes, raids, lost sectors, all the planets we have been to etc it's not exactly small. Besides comments saying this were likely pre or mid production and not final a release stance.

  • It's not triple A anymore, they lost that when it went free. The A status is av cost licence. You have to hit certain standards to be granted an A licence which allows you to charge a certain amount on stores. It's A £20 AA £40 AAA £60 I forget the exact things needed, but games like destiny 2 vanilla, destiny 1 vanilla, Anthem, there's a lot more but it's early and I can't think yet, released big but empty because studios prioritise hitting the AAA markers and then they 'fix' the rest over time via roadmaps and updates. I think it's to do with graphics and how well it runs but not 100% sure I'm remembering that correctly

  • Well at release it was then but games don't work like that here pretty much most releases are between 80 and 100 unless on sale or higher if special editions

  • Obviously it changes due to were you live. 80 to 100 where you are is the ewuiva of 60 elsewhere

What I meant was even minor releases here go for the same $ as supposed AAA yet are not necessarily labeled as such that's all I meant. Even minor indie releases here generally drop at the 80 to 100 mark then are heavily discounted a month after release

  • I'm OZ too, SA games generally drop here between 80 and 100, but I usually get all mine online to be honest preorders are damn pricey lately for deluxe/ultimate editions anyway

Not defending it the game has many major flaws. But at release was a AAA title and it is technically open world. Massive? Well multiple planets/ moons/ Instances (no so much anymore) so depends on ones expectations of massive. And yes many people are over expecting, and it's only getting worse as the years come and go. But don't get me wrong Bungie has been very lazy with D2 imo as there has been many poor choices and slow action where it is needed faster.

That was their hope, but obviously that never happened due to typical bungie developing processes, IE generate big ideas, then scale it back to the bare minimum.

Which was a lecture where Bungie’s developers were speaking to a room of other developers, “dumbass”. Not E3. That recording was never meant for our ears, and it was leaked to the media....not put out by Bungie. Bungie has never made that claim in any of its marketing material. And this is what Bungie showed at E3 that year. Not a word about the game being open-world: https://youtu.be/gIp7vZuYzoA

  • By definition of the genre it actually is, it may be instanced, very limited population and only moderately sized at best(imo) but open world nonetheless.
