Why not though. What is the point of a community event if bungie literally has to help us like a grandmother in a wheelchair. Last time this happened, they handed out one of the best shotguns in the game after bungie realized the Seraph Towers event was going to fail, and made it easier as a result. And that was for an event regarding a single activity. This is an event where you can play literally any activity and generate progress, and yet we still have trouble reaching the goal originally set.

Bungie overestimating the community doesn't mean they need to get rid of community quests.
-
Then they need to drastically reduce the numbers to make them easier
-
They already did.

Probably because like you many people aren’t using the exotic ship that drops dawning spirit when you find ingredients.
-
The fact that you will blame another player for not equipping some ugly ship is another thing wrong with community quest design. If it was a solo quest you could maximize your own gains with the ship and never have to be concerned about whether somebody else is running it.
-
Doesn’t hurt to throw on a ship that benefits the community by earning passive Dawning Spirit. The ships don’t do anything anyways, might as well use one that helps with an event.
Doesn’t hurt to throw on a ship
It does. It hurts my eyes.

I had it equipped before. Even have the new shader and effect that came along with the quest. I just don't care for it. Besides, spamming cookies is far more effective. I do it all the time. Crucible generates a lot of dawning essence and ingredients. I made like...40 coolies for eva today in one sitting.
