The update would not have deleted your characters, as characters can only be manually deleted from within the game itself. If you did not delete your characters, then someone else, through whatever means, gained access to your account and deleted them.
It is highly recommended that you change your passwords, and enable two-factor authentication.
Per Bungie policy, they do not restore lost or deleted items or characters for any reason.

Edited by Pahanin: 12/10/2020 3:05:40 PMSo very quick question to you all. My chapters were deleted and a character wasn't started but my vault and inventory is still there. Is that possible? Like I look on dim and I see a blank character but 500 armor and weapons of mine in the vault and my inventory is still there?
-
Yes, that's normal. The vault is separate from character inventory, so it stays, the same way your triumphs and collection did.
-
Thank you again. I guess I'll try and rebuild I guess.
-
Hey it still shows all of my completed triumphs from 2017 to 2020 saved in legacy. Is that normal? Even levi on the destiny app
-
Yeah, that stuff stays, even if your characters are deleted. You still also have all your unlocked exotics, ships, ghosts, etc. in your collection.
-
So ill essentially keep all the triumph loot? I was wondering about that. Just not my other stuff that is not triumph related
-
Yeah, all that should still be available.
-
I feel a little better. All of my super hard work is still there. X.x thank you so much for your help.
-
You're welcome.
-
It is already on a two part authentication system by my cell phone. No one would of gotten onto my account but me.

Per wastedondestiny.com, you have four total deleted characters. As said above, characters can't be deleted except from within the game itself, so someone did it, one way or another.
-
There is no getting them back is there not even if I have a save file on a ssd from my old xbox?
-
No, sorry. There's no save data stored locally on your console, it's all on the game servers.
-
-blam!- six years why me
-
ask whoever did it. had to be someone either on your console or with access to your account on a different console but if you have 2 factor set up like you said, that shouldn't be the issue
