Lore for Dummies - The Scorn
Welcome to LFD! This series is meant to be an easily digestible, simplified, short, and somewhat entertaining lore ‘crash course’ for those who want to learn more without wading through grimoire.
—— All right, mavericks. Ready to see what you’ll be fightin’ today? SCORN APPROACHING. Today we’ll talk about the Scorn, the zombie junkies of the Fallen world. BUT FIRST, oh human/awoken/exo mine, first we must understand their space-pirate cousins, the Fallen, a bit. The Fallen, but explained really fast All Fallen subsist on a substance known as ether, a gaseous substance produced by their meatball-resembling (come on, don’t be shy! At one point or another they’ve seemed delicious to you) space robots known as Servitors. You can spot this ether next time you kill a Fallen, as it pops out of them upon death! It’s like fireworks :D Also, uh, since the Fallen are so dependent on Servitors for their life-juice, they tend to deify them and are actually centerpieces of their religion. Fikrul, the Fanatic and the Origin of...wait for it...THE DARK ETHER DUN DUN DUNN!!! Yes, this is an appropriate time for suspenseful music. Put it on if you have it. Back in the day, after the Battle of Saturn, a few Houseless Dregs banded together and began to terrorize the Reef. Naming themselves the Scorned Barons, they wreaked havoc upon Awoken, Guardians, and innocent, cute little Servitors! The monsters! A little sick of their antics a certain Exo we all and know (rhymes with Raid-6) staged an ambush in which he captured these Barons and left one of them, an ex-Archon, Fikrul, to die. Coincidentally, a certain heartbroken Uldren Sov (he-who-shall-not-be-named) came across him, bleeding out from a Golden Gun shot to the chest. Feeling sorry for his plight, Uldren dressed his wounds and wished Fikrul to live. And since Riven, an ancient being of immense power, was secretly influencing Uldren, his wish was granted, and Fikrul’s ether was transmuted into the gross stuff we know today. The Scorn, but explained slower The Scorn...are different from the Fallen. Instead of clean Ether like all the other Fallen, they subsist off corrupted ether, possibly tainted by the Darkness itself. Nasty. They don’t even need the ether breathers the Fallen use! Now, dark ether has...certain properties. Fikrul, the Fanatic, is the only place you can find it naturally. He can use this goopy stuff to RAISE FALLEN AND SCORN FROM THE DEAD. And even himself! Unlimited self-rezzing. Remember the Hollowed Lair Strike, when you kill him again? Ever wonder why the Scorn look so...zombie like? That’s because they’re usually reanimated several times after death, and this takes a huge toll on their bodies, slowly degenerating them, bit by bit, into the cute blobs of flesh we know as Screeeebs! The Scorned Barons aren’t into the whole “you are a Servitor and give me food, thus you are a god” thing. In fact, they detest the Fallen Houses and their religious dependence on such machines, and slaughter them whenever they get the chance. Their main goal is to topple the Fallen Houses and destroy any who continue to practice the old Eliksni traditions. Now, the Scorn still need Servitors and their ether, and still keep Servitors (usually caged up, remember the Hangman?) for ether corruption. And remember... Knowledge is power. Kill stuff with it. —— Additional resources, if you’re still interested: The Lawless Frontier - A book about the Tangled Shore with biographies of all the Scorned Barons. You aim, shoot at them, and they re-die. 🤧

        • I can already tell that this will be a lot easier for newbies to read, just because of the simple, casual approach!

            • Some fallen edgybois ate some spicy ether and their leader met up with the lead singer to 30 Seconds To Mars and they killed the resident funny man. Got it.

Amazing post, it’s great having these back. You touched the subject at the end, but I think you should definitely clarify that the main goal of the Scorned Barons has always been to destroy the Houses and the false and corrupt religious system that worships Servitors. And you mentioned Scorn looking so zombie-like because they die a lot. This detail is a little specific so I don’t see any need to add it, but the Corrupted Ether also has destructive effects on Eliksni bodies, mutilating them even more (and killing any Eliksni that breathe it). This is described in the Most Loyal book when Variks tests the Corrupted Ether on some Dreg prisoners. It’s the main reason why Screebs and Abominations are so extremely bloated and blistery.

                      • Wat a minute, you aren't superskybro! That explains the lack of Scorn lewdness.
