Nightingale - Failed to download configuration files from Bungie servers

Since around 21:00 GMT yesterday (Dec 1st) I've been unable to log in to Destiny on Xbox One (based in UK). When attempting to load the game it spends longer on the "Checking for Updates" step before seemingly timing out and displaying: "Failed to download configuration files from Bungie servers, please try again" "For more information search for error code: Nightingale" I've attempted a full re-install of Destiny followed by shutting down and unplugging the Xbox as well as my network router for 10 minutes. Rebooting the router and changing the DNS servers from Google to OpenDNS, restarting the Xbox and changing the DNS in the same way, clearing the alternate MAC address. Testing the network connection gives me a good connection with no issues and Open NAT type. Relaunching the newly installed game with the new network configured and cache cleared still gives me the same error. The only way I have been able to temporarily get on is to configure my Xbox to connect to a wireless hotspot from my phone. This is obviously not a viable permanent solution and going back to either a wired or wireless connection to my router brings back the issue. I'm not seeing any issues with any other game or app on my Xbox and never had issues before yesterday. I'd really appreciate some help with this problem, Many thanks, Mike -- Update I managed to get it to work using Cloudflare (1.1.1.1) for my DNS provider instead of Google / Open DNS. No idea if this is a coincidence or why this would help unless the other DNS providers had a cached copy of a corrupt configuration file or something? Worth noting I left my character screen idle for a bit while I ate and got kicked off the server with the "Are you still there?" message. Reloading gave me the issue again but this time I left the DNS as Cloudflare and just did a cache clear / restart and it worked again... Would be nice to hear whats going on from someone at Bungie??

  • I had the exact same problem the other day! Tried clearing the cache on my Xbox One which didn’t work, ended up reinstalling it which fixed it (so I thought). Was working for a few days since no problems but was playing earlier today then stopped to have some lunch and ever since I’ve not been able to get on again. I have tried clearing the cache and reinstalling twice now, still coming up with nightingale. Bungie obviously doesn’t care as this issue has been ongoing for at least 2 years. I know this because while looking online for a solution, I found a reddit post from 2 years ago of someone saying the exact same situation as me where they stopped for food and couldn’t play again afterwards. I played D1 a lot but only hopped on D2 when BL dropped, played a lot the first couple weeks with the standard error codes occasionally that let you straight back into activities but only this week the nightingale ones. No idea what to do now reinstalling clearly isn’t working.
