Start the Simulation Survival. Of you do it again, that will finish the quest step. I have also did the exo challenge before the exotic quest and this helped me.

What just worked for me. 1. Abandon the quest. 2. Reacquire from the kiosk at the tower. 3. Access Simulation through the Bray Exoscience logo on the Europa Map.

No it doesn't. Iv done the quest from varicks and did the simulation mission after right after that. It gave no credit for having done exo challenge either way. All videos on YouTube state will progress after the quest from varicks version.
