I would prefer if people could verify this by simply noting GPU usage in low FPS areas to somewhat confirm my theory, Ive noticed much higher GPU usage on a lower preset Post BL than I did Pre BL and lighting is the only major graphical change to take place.
No this ain't it... I don't even get more than 80% GPU usage or 40% CPU usage... CPU usage do get better if the "force_enable_multi_threaded_render_submit" cvar key, also fps gets a little better, but still not as good as before. Graphic settings do barely make a difference, you can read a lot of people with the same behavior too, here and old post about this problem. 100%, 80%, 50% doesn't matter neither.

  • Step 1 - In steam application go to settings and clear out the cache. You will need to sing into steam again once the application restarts. Step 2 - Go to your steam folder where your game is which should be C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\ and whatever games is there that you do not have downloaded anymore & delete those folders. Step 3 - go to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Destiny 2 & for the destiny application icon right click and go to compatibility tab. Check the Run Application as Administrator box. Hopefully this helps with the issues because i was having serious issues such as game pauses, FPS drop & not being able to complete the story on cosmodorm. I have not had any issues once i did this steps. Best of luck guardian :)

  • Just mentioning it just in case. I don't usually think its necessary especially since destiny is new. Dont have to be rude just trying to help.

Yeah Im fairly confident its not the cvar setting, I mean just test this on nessus and you will see, with it enabled I get higher CPU usage by around 10% and around 80% GPU but I dont hit my cap FPS on lowest preset, with it disabled, im back to sub 40% CPU usage but sat at around 95% GPU usage on lowest preset but hit max FPS. I should not be hitting 95% GPU usage on lowest preset at 1440p on a 1080Ti, that to mean shows excessive GPU usage either due to the CPU not handling "the correct data it should" hence higher GPU usage or the engine graphics have taxed user hardware to much which explains the lower CPU usage as the GPU is now the bottleneck and not the CPU.

  • Yh the 80% GPU usage might be because the CPU is being "limited" through the engine by some bug or whatever, funny enough ive noticed this issue as well. my CPU usage constantly regardless of frame rate sits around 35-38% on my 3700x, but I have tested the cvar setting and this made no difference to frame rates but did increase CPU usage. Even when testing at 720p frame rates barely increase but CPU usage in reality should increase as you lower res/settings as its more CPU bound than GPU bound but it doesnt increase CPU usage anywhere. so maybe its actually a CPU utilization issue, would need more people to confirm as ive seen some reports of "high cpu usage" as well.

  • On Tangled Shore and maybe on everyone else locations, game using only 2 cores 2 threads CPU. You can have 4, 6, 8, 12 cores, but game will still be using 2 cores. Enableling multithread render in CVARS, makes all cores CPU work more evenly. Before BL this was not.

so here is the problem with that, even on my 3700x I still see 4-6 (or 8-12 SMT cores) in use, CVAR enabled literally shows such little benefit in most areas when its enabled. heck as proven with nessus test, CVAR enabled leads to lower FPS with lower GPU usage than when its disabled. CVAR only shows one side of the problem (CPU issue if it is a CPU issue) the other issue is the excessive GPU usage as noted by me and other users even on lowest preset with extremely low resolution set. I should not be seeing 80%+ GPU usage regardless of resolution set on lowest Preset (this has nothing to do with the CPU) this is clearly some draw call issue with DX11 or there is something internally being rendered that should not be thus leading to excessive GPU usage regardless of settings turned on/off. There very well could be a CPU utilization issue, but this issue I can 100% confirm is not the cause of the extremely low FPS we see, the only thing that would tax FPS to the extent we see Post BL compared to Pre BL (in most cases almost a 40% reduction) is graphical changes or a bug in the render pipeline. To explain it a little better, CPU usage should inherently increase at 720p lowest preset (any benchmark of any game will show the same) why? because your effectively removing a lot of the workload being pushed to the GPU (aka render pipeline) thus FPS should also increase, but as FPS increases so does the CPU usage, more (higher) FPS requires more CPU usage to handle the processing of frames. but the issue is, I dont see this behaviour when testing a 720p lowest preset, indicating to me there is still a "GPU bottleneck" aka data (to much data) still being pushed to the GPU hence the extremely high GPU usage still seen on lowest res/preset.

So i have rx 5600xt and my GPU usage no more than 60% on high settings on FullHD, but CPU usage 15-20% and 2 cores out of 6 with disabled multithread render. However, when enabled multithread render CPU usage increases to 40-45% and all cores are used, in both cases there was a lock FPS to 75 with FreeSync, i.e. CPU load increased even when the framerate is limited. Maybe that enabling this parameter leads to excessive loading CPU if its capacity is insufficient.
