[BNG] PC FPS Issues Megathread - UPDATE June 22

Hey, community. We're currently investigating FPS issues on PC.
UPDATES
June 22, 2021 Last night, AMD released Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.6.1 that fixes some Radeon Graphics products that were experiencing lower than expected performance in Destiny 2. Due to the pandemic, we haven't had access to our PC compatibility lab to do in-depth testing. We've been making improvements with each release even though they aren't called out in patch notes, and we're working with our partners to help address these issues and are optimistic about the future.

January 29, 2021 We have looked over the data post 3.0.2 launch: -- High-end users saw big improvements: we're about halfway back to pre-Beyond Light perf. -- Mid-range systems didn't see much improvement. -- Low-end and laptops didn't see much improvement. We're continuing to investigate and look for solutions toward better performance.

January 19, 2021 We released Update 3.0.2 that optimized Lighting on PC GPUs to help increase performance. -- Many folks have mentioned turning off the Shader Cache in the NVIDIA Control Panel. • I used to hit over 130+ fps in pvp and pve activities. Now I barely hit 80 fps in both activities. I tried manually specifying that D2 should use my GPU in graphic settings (Step 10) and it actually made my FPS worse. With that change, I was getting only 40 fps in pvp. I set it to windows will decide and I get ~80 fps. Still, before this update, playing Destiny 2 felt smooth in both activities. I get low fps in patrol areas, strikes, and crucible. The only time I see my FPS at 200+ is when I am in orbit. Pastebin

  • the fix to all the frame drops was simply enabling multithreaded render submit if your engineers can get that running without shadows popping/flickering it's easily a 50-60fps boost in cpu bound scenarios. the other option is to allow us to completely disable the shadows/lighting in game and enable the option as a temporary fix, i went from 47fps in tangled shore to 112-140fps, this isn't a joke, the problem is the shadow flickering.

I am having FPS issues in all PvE and PvP activities, as well as Gambit. (I averaged 120+ FPS prior to Beyond Light'. I dropped to an average of 70-80 FPS during Beyond Light's release. After Hotfix 3.0.0.3 I have averaged 30-60 FPS.) I have quit out of all open apps and browsers while playing and I have not noticed any improvements. My PC specs can be found via my DxDiag information here: https://pastebin.com/U7FvZVxQ

    • pastebin here: https://pastebin.com/2jskBJpv I have been having really bad FPS issues on the EDZ and the Tangled Shore, Sometimes when playing PvP at the start of the round i would get 1 FPS and my computer would be really slow and laggy, Also every time when I'm traveling and I try going into my character menu I would get the lowest FPS and everything would be lagging, Hopefully this helps, If anything else is needed I will provide it.

    • Getting lower fps and drops on areas after the introduction of the hunts, I can play just fine but after I play one of those hunts the whole game goes to shit. I have drops when I am putting and changing mods and on the Garden of Salvation boss EVGA 1070 FTW 16 memory I5-7700K Windows 10 too lazy for pastebin, just putting this out so you know more

    • The main place I experience issues is on Anomoly when I'm going from the outside to the inside where the rotating platforms are. I get about 140fps on the outside, while on the inside it drops to about 100-90 fps. Other places I drop frames is when there is a lot of lighting. On almost all of the crucible maps, I would get on average 165 fps on all the maps and now I get about 100-110 fps on most of the maps. I mainly run all settings on low besides for texture quality, and now with BL out, no matter the texture quality I always get about the same amount of frames. https://pastebin.com/uWBjMezt

Main FPS issue is in pre-rendered cutscenes, which play at about 2-4 FPS. Other areas of the game have a small FPS hit, but nothing major (the largest being the EDZ, where my FPS fall from about 80-150 FPS down to 50-70). After Beyond Light release i'm watching massive drops to 40-45 fps on: Tangled Shore, Dreaming City, EDZ, Bray Exoscience. Before BL i have 80-90fps in 1920x1080. Changing game settings from hight to low no give results. Problems also arise when using Stasis. I'm running RX5600XT, Ryzen 5 3600, 16gb DDR4, game installed on SSD. I play on 1080p at max settings with motion blur turned off. I have a Ryzen 5 3600, RX 5700XT, 16GB DDR4, and Destiny 2 installed on an NVME SSD with Windows 10. Windows and my GPU drivers are all up to date. Before Beyond Light, I was experiencing between 90-150 FPS at all times in Destiny 2. My FPS has significantly dropped in the Tangled Shore, the Dreaming City, and the EDZ, as well as Crucible and Gambit. I now get an average of 45 FPS in these areas, and my GPU is only being about 33% utilized when I am getting this low FPS. Here is my dxdiag file: https://pastebin.com/Y3U7yiB9 Thank you for acknowledging the issue!

      • I played non stop d2 the 10 weeks before BL launched to prepare, i upgraded to a rtx 3070 my i played 1080p on medium settings. my fps were constantly above 200, In the EDZ they could drop to 180 but it was fine. After the update and after doing all fixes you suggested (removing OC and stuff too) I get 90 max if i put my Overclocls back in i get back to around 110 fps. To test this I always go to the same spot on the EDZ look at the same point to messure FPS. I replaced my 3070 with my old 2060 for test purposes and my fps came down to 45-60. This is also happening on the tangled shore. On Europa I have no real Issues but i expected my Frames to be even higher then they are. My PC: Windows 10 Pro 20H2 Fresh install as of two days ago, removed all bloatware optimized Windows Timer deactivated unnecesary services (spooler and stuff). No Antivirus Defender Disabled. Core i7-8700k (Watercooled at 60c max) Rtx 3070 (61c max) Trident Z CL14 16 GB Ram (testet with XMP and without) The only thing running in the Background is my NZXT Watercooling app Hyperthreading is disabled as this somehow makes the low fps more stable. Destiny2 was reinstalled and xml file newly created. In Passmark Benchmark all my components score way above average. https://pastebin.com/DiE0DD7q

      • Every area of the game has lower fps in Beyond Light. This has to do with the graphics update you made to the game. However, it is especially noticeable on the Tangled Shore. This destination has the largest change from pre-Beyond Light. Europa is also not great, but no way to compare that to the older graphics since we did not have that zone before. https://pastebin.com/U2r16uhi Win 10 v2004 i7 7700K 64GB of DDR-3200 memory Titan X (pascal) GPU LG CX 48" monitor

      • https://pastebin.com/d4KvxAVG While I'm not seeing large drops in fps like others are reporting, I have noticed that my average frame rate has dropped significantly since Beyond Light released. For example, while exploring Divalian Mists in the Dreaming City pre-Beyond Light, my PC averaged around 100 fps at 4k resolution and now it averages in the mid-70s with the same graphics settings. Other locations in the game also have lower perf than before to varying degrees, while some others are the same as they have been.

      • I cannot play in my PC at home since the release of beyond light. I have been playing destiny 2 since shadowkeep with no problem, and now i log in, choose my character, go to orbit and then when i try to go to any location (except the tower) i receive the beet error and return to orbit. here's my dxdiag and i tried all your recommendations. • The main issue I am having is during the pre-rendered cutscenes. My fps drops down to 2-7 and both the video and audio stutter so much to the point that if I don't skip the cutscene, I get kicked to orbit with a rutabaga error. This only happens during the pre-rendered ones (the first two in the beyond light dlc). The third cutscene where it shows my guardian and ghost talking run perfectly at 30 fps with no stuttering. The mid-mission cutscene with variks also stutters (that's as far as I played before giving up) The game ran fine before and before this update I had no issues with cutscenes or frames My specs are: Windows 7 - which seems to be the common thing among most that have my specific issue i7 processor 16 GB Ram 1060 Ti graphics card I already shared the link to my dxdiag in another thread where it was asked for, but here it is again for convenience. I have since also installed the k lite mega codec pack to see if it helped (it didn't) https://pastebin.com/Wt2LD8z3 I really hope you can get to the root of the issue to fix it because I haven't even been able to complete the first Beyond Light mission. Thank you.

I think the game needs some optimisation on the CPU side, will we ever get the threaded optimisation working in the config, I've tested it and just causes textures to flicker It does double cpu utilisation though so it's half working, it looks like you guys was working on adding this feature at some point and gave up on it, will you be adding threaded optimisations in the future? currently the game only utilises 30% of my 8 core cpu. <cvar name="force_enable_multi_threaded_render_submit" value="0"></textarea> Will it ever work? :< was expecting the game to move over to vulcan with stadia already running on that also, one day maybe!

      • After Beyond Light, I'm seeing severe drops when getting into firefights with even just a handful of enemies. From 60 down to 48 isn't too irregular for me. Sometimes in Strikes I'll see my frame rate go down to 30ish when going into a new area or having lots of adds spawn in during a boss battle. Going to destinations, EDZ/Tangled Shore/Dreaming City seems to be getting around 50fps but is more sluggish than the fps would make you think. Europa when going to certain areas sees fps drop down to around 30 at times, and rarely is so bad when arriving in a new area that I have to spin around very slowly to get my fps to start getting back into the 50s. Worst is the first load in on a destination, or when a Wrathborn hunt pops me back into a public area. I'll drop to single digits on my fps and need to slowly spin around to see them start to climb back up again. Lowering settings as far as they'll go and lowering render resolution to around 50% has helped some with the firefight fps, but the loading onto areas is still very much there. • I’m only seeing some major drops in high density areas where there’s a lot going on. I will say before beyond light launches in orbit I could see close to 600fps now I’m only seeing up to 400 also the tower I can see massive drops due to a social space I expect a drop but not as much with my current hardware. Here are my specs Intel I9 10900k RTX 3080 tuff series by asus. 970 evo plus 2tb m.2 16gb of ram Ps I have gone through all peices of the help page but I shouldn’t have to drop anything to run with my current hardware. • Been experiencing frame drop for about 2 hours now. I have a i9-9900k/ 2080 SUPER/ 32GB Gskill Trident Z. I am used to lower performance when OBS is running as you can't go fullscreen and use game capture. This does feel like it is a bit more than usual not plugging. Just letting you know the load my system is under. If you need anything else let me know! Hope this helps.

I have FPS issues in almost every place in Destiny 2 except strikes and solo missions. The area where I get the most drops in FPS is in Riss Reborn Approach on Europa, where I get an average framerate of 70-90 fps. Before the 3.0.0 patch, my PC was able to handle most non-strike and solo missions with a framerate of 120-130 fps. Now, that number has gone to 100-115 fps. To be clear, the strike and solo mission areas are generally unaffected by the large FPS drop. When I play Destiny 2, I rarely have any background apps open. Here are the specs given from dxdiag: Link Here Edit: I play at 1080p144hz

I have been having frame iossues as well as random lockups were nothing works for a couple of seconds. Also loading into anything has been really long for the last few days. i have lowered all graphics settings to low and it still happens. My system specs are i7 8750H, 16GB ram, 2070 maxp, game is installed on an NVME SSD.

        • I see major frame drops very often when I am playing in an area with a lot of activity. Driving in Europa and being in an area makes frames drop extremely often and suprised the game didn't crash. I have underclocked my gpu and and ran Destiny at the lowest possible settings and had the gpu run at only 30% usage and still had frame drops. Before the release of Beyond Light I had 0 problems with pc performance and ran high settings at 1440p at 144hz at 144fps easily. My specs: Intel i7 9700k MSI 2080 Super 16 gb G.Skill Trident Z

        • I am getting crazy visual errors on Europa near the campsite and in the more open areas. I will see walls that look like stasis and snow mounds that are not actually there. It looks like glitching. Could be something about the Dynamic weather? I have no other problems with Destiny or any other games. I run ryzen 9 3900x, 32gb ram on a 5700xt. Usually get 70-120 fps on 1440p during gameplay.

        • Ryzen 5 2600 gtx 1660 16gbs ram running destiny and windows off an SSD. Prior to BL releasing I would get 120+ fps at high settings. Since BL released I get extreme frame drops down to the single digits when loading into any environment outside of crucible. Strikes Gambit and open world it immediately drops to single digits. Also very frequent reconnecting errors which is annoying because you then spawn in with no special or heavy ammo. None of these issues occured prior to BL and my internet is 400mbps down 20 up hardwired.
