[BNG] PC FPS Issues Megathread - UPDATE June 22

Hey, community. We're currently investigating FPS issues on PC.
UPDATES
June 22, 2021 Last night, AMD released Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.6.1 that fixes some Radeon Graphics products that were experiencing lower than expected performance in Destiny 2. AMD users may want to change their Settings > Preferred Software Version to Recommended + Optional for future updates.

June 3, 2021 In our TWaB blog post, we acknowledged that we made some major engine changes with the launch of Beyond Light - while working from home. Due to the pandemic, we haven't had access to our PC compatibility lab to do in-depth testing. We've been making improvements with each release even though they aren't called out in patch notes, and we're working with our partners to help address these issues and are optimistic about the future.

January 29, 2021 We have looked over the data post 3.0.2 launch: -- High-end users saw big improvements: we're about halfway back to pre-Beyond Light perf. -- Mid-range systems didn't see much improvement. -- Low-end and laptops didn't see much improvement. We're continuing to investigate and look for solutions toward better performance.

January 19, 2021 We released Update 3.0.2 that optimized Lighting on PC GPUs to help increase performance. -- Many folks have mentioned turning off the Shader Cache in the NVIDIA Control Panel. Does this help with performance?

December 14, 2020 We believe we found a few issues related to light probes that have led to GPU performance degradation. We're still investigating and hope to have a resolution in January.

Please use this thread to help us track down what is causing the issue by:
1. I have went from a consistent 60 to often dropping to 45 or even 30, especially in the presence of enemies and in areas like the edz or tangled shore, while going up to a consistent 60 in certain areas. Along with that my frame rate in the tower has barely changed Here is the dxdiag https://pastebin.com/UhG4TzAd

  • Bungie, the problem is everywhere in the game, before the update in the orbit i used to have constantly 225FPS, after the update i have 145FPS, is almost 90FPS lost, in EDZ before the update i have constatly 100FPS and now i only have 55 to 60FPS, on tangled shore before i have 95FPS and now i have 55FPS, the problem is something that you did in the graphics CORE, i mean in the graphics engine because the problem is everywhere, is not only in some areas, of course many of the players only notice in some areas when the drops are too much, but actually the drops is everywhere, in the orbit, is the planets, in the crucible but we notice more when the drops are below 60fps because we can really see the drops, i mean when drops 144 to 120 we don't notice because don't bother us, but in realitly the games lost FPS everywhere, anothe thing me and a lot of people notice is reagard the HDR, you said in the update patch notes that you changed the lighhtining of the game, in fact you did, but you did too much, on SDR the brightness is too much white, even in the dark areas looks like we put the bright at maximum, i mean, in the caves that usually should be dark now i'm iliminated, even the graphics edges are iluminated, the sun ligh is too strong, the color tint specially red is changed, is nor vivid red anymore, in some areas is like clear orange, in some areas pink red, in some areas cold red, i think you guys slide the bright bad to the maximum all over the game and now the colors is not good as before, looks more washed colors, i agot a monitor with a 10bit panel and 135% of RGB coverage so i can notice the difference between the colors. About the HDR, the problem that i notice is the "negative effect" in some areas of the game, specially on Nesso and the braythech lab, in earth orbit have some issue in the borealis aurora, instead looks totaly green, some parts are red, the same effect i noitice in some braytech walls, another thing about the HDR is the brightness, i think when you guys changed the brightness on SDR affected the brightness on HDR too, i mean, the HDR white point ti too strong, even if i put in the minimum i can't see some graphics effect, an example is in the FALLING GUILLOTINE, in the circle of the sword when we apply the ornament we can notice a take effect inside that circle, now with the HDR on we can't see, even if we put the white point to the minimum, looks like the brightness is too much, well i hope i can help with my comment, have a lot of information here, i think if you guiy could revert the changes that you did in the graphics could fix all our problems, plkease remember that the graphics of the Destiny was completelly beautiful, you should not changed anything, specially because you are using the same game engine and your engine was already optmized since the beggining, please if is possible, revert the graphci changes you guys did that i can garantee that will fix our problems about FPS, thank you. here i will post some links with images so you can see all the problems in SDR mode https://ibb.co/XtD1jkQ https://ibb.co/vdJj4Sr https://ibb.co/Gd5hmRL https://ibb.co/BG6T56w https://ibb.co/NxjwRMW https://ibb.co/tcZPmQQ https://ibb.co/nkSs2VZ https://ibb.co/PzcMy40 https://ibb.co/3h3NVdW https://ibb.co/hyVZ22Z https://ibb.co/grK1RxR https://ibb.co/bJ7ZL0q https://ibb.co/ydpD1cY https://ibb.co/rG1xCYQ https://ibb.co/gPNkrV8 https://ibb.co/vjTXYHs https://ibb.co/6RdFqGJ

EDZ, Tangled Shore, Bray Exoscience. Just finished doing the recommended troubleshooting with no luck. I also noticed that no matter how much I lower the graphics settings, my FPS wont go up(tried even to reduce render size to 25% and the performance gain was minimal. • Tried al of the about setting changes, I have even tried to downscale and upscale my graphics settings to see if it will scale with my gpu. My monitor is 165 hz (not that it matters) heres the things that i tested. Europa: Charon crossing to Cadmus Ridge 1080p(low)- 60-80 fps There was a initial ~100 fps in the begining but as soon as I started walking it dropped to 60-70fps 1080p(Highest) -60-80 fps Same results as above. 1440p (Low) -60-70fps the average dropped and there was no initial 100 fps in the common space next to variks. 1440p(Highest) the same as above. 1440p(highest) 200% super sampled views the same performance as above. There was a ~10 fps difference when i turned off nividia low latency. My pc is not the problem here as i have: ryzen 3950x 3080 32gb ram and destiny is booting off of an nvme ssd. TL:DR no change in settings seems to make a difference in performance even with the best pc specs. or the highest or lowest settings. I have essentially paid for a non existent gpu for a non existent increase in fps. FML

I am getting drops beginning at the character select screen and continuing briefly after loading to orbit. It also seems to be an issue loading into destinations or activities - occasionally crashing on various destinations and activities, and regularly crashing when launching into Tangled Shore. There was a post yesterday from crystalblisters pointing out that if you turned OFF Shader Cache in NVIDIA Control panel it fixed some of the drops which seemed to help some. • RTX 2060 SUPER i7-9700F 16 GB I'm getting a constant 100-120 fps, which is running fine and smoothly, however, when coming in and out of Wrathborn hunts, my game stutters and freezes up, with an occasional crash. It's really annoying and i've done a bunch of things to try and fix it.

GAME FREEZING Playlist Vanguard Strikes, Fanatic strike. Exodus black. Got to the second room where the Ravagers come through the door behind the chieftain. Shot at them with Leviathan's Breath. I'm not sure if there was a screeb there or not. Game outright froze and kicked me out after about a minute. Audio was being a little funky (like constantly repeating the last quarter second). I've never seen anything like this happen before while playing. No error code or anything. My monitor was reporting frame drop and it got down to 7 before freezing. I'm playing windowed fullscreen. I'm also running 4k vsync capped at 60FPS which is what my monitor is set at. Froze again on exodus black. At the arc pulses. Right after doing a finisher. Spawned back in "The Rift" Lost Sector when I reloaded the game. I'm pretty sure it booted the entire fireteam. • I'm seeing my FPS cut in half in specific zones regardless of the amount of people. The Tangled Shore is the absolute worst for me. I have mine capped at 100fps and get 100fps is almost all zones. Last night,. I was averaging 40fps on the Tangled Shore. Ryzen 5 3600 32gb ram Radeon 5700xt

      • FPS is significantly degraded in areas such as the Tangled Shore or upon entering the Clovis Bray Exoscience lobby on Europa. Some destinations have far better performance than others in the same instances of large amounts of action on screen or heavy lighting/effects. Reducing my settings in-game does very little to alleviate any of these drops. I was consistently striking an average of around 132fps before Beyond Light dropped on near max settings, but I can drop as low as 30 when first landing at the Tangled Shore now. • Frames and overall performance have taken a major hit since 3.0.0. On average I ran High/highest settings at around 100 fps, after the update I have not even touched 100 and average roughly 65-75 FPS. During a run on Last Wish I was only getting 40-45 FPS when previously I would easily break 100-115 fps. The strain the game was causing on my GPU caused it to overheat twice, and forced me to stay out of major battles and look away from explosions just to finish the 2nd encounter. On top of performance I am getting Major terrain glitches where it looks like tall black walls would just shoot up in front of my character just outside the Stranger's Camp and the Public Event area in Cadmus Ridge. https://pastebin.com/9JE3ZDDR

      • pastebin.com/bf4XQK9T I've seen a reduction in fps and smoothness across the entire game almost. Nothing but stuttering and fps drops. I play controller and it feels even worse than what it does on MNK for some reason. My mouse seems smoother than my analogs when I turn but both still have the same fps. I've tried... Updated bios. Reinstalled AMD Softwear. Tried multiple different setting configurations. Verified game files. Set lowest game setting. Set highest game setting. Checked for windows updates. Checked for new drivers manually. Tried using saphire strixx render tool. Switching monitors. Downloaded D2 on my Intel/GTX build and I get the same issues. Nothing has changed. The only thing that works in any kind of way is if I enable (force_multi_thread)cant remember the name) in the Cvars. Doing that fixes the fps but then entire buildings and random shadows and objects start to flicker and flash all over the place. FPS drops randomly all over the place.

Ryzen 5 3600x Xfx 5600XT 64GB Ram Samsung EVO 970 Plus Can’t get more then 40-50fps on tangled shore / dreaming city. 20-40% fps loss everywhere else. Had a solid 144fps the night before beyond light even while streaming. Will update with DX Diag. Also I’ve noticed on the tangled shore / dreaming city my CPU ultilization doesn’t go past 25% unless I goto spider. Then my frames jump back up to normal.

      • After beyond light I get 40 FPS on tangeled Shore with everything on hight or low. I lost about 60-70 FPS in crucible and the same happened in PVE activities, that’s after the launch of (Beyond Light DLC) I am running RX 5700XT, Ryzen 3700x, 32GB DDR4 3600mhz. Please fix this because the game is unplayable and it drops frames consistently with stutters, Thank you Bungie.

        • Hello there, I have a Ryzen 2700x with an RTX 2070 ROG Strix card. I have massive frame drop in all points in the game. I can’t even gauge an accurate average FPS due to how much if changes. I get anywhere between 50-150 FPS , regardless of where I am at. I see from this thread that a majority of people with issues are using ryzen chips. Just how much does destiny 2 prefer intel over ryzen chips? My ram clock speed is set correctly and everything is liquid cooled. Only game I have any issues with running 144 FPS at 2k.

        • I used to hit over 130+ fps in pvp and pve activities. Now I barely hit 80 fps in both activities. I tried manually specifying that D2 should use my GPU in graphic settings (Step 10) and it actually made my FPS worse. With that change, I was getting only 40 fps in pvp. I set it to windows will decide and I get ~80 fps. Still, before this update, playing Destiny 2 felt smooth in both activities. I get low fps in patrol areas, strikes, and crucible. The only time I see my FPS at 200+ is when I am in orbit. Pastebin
