[BNG] PC FPS Issues Megathread - UPDATE June 22

Hey, community. We're currently investigating FPS issues on PC.
UPDATES
June 22, 2021 Last night, AMD released Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.6.1 that fixes some Radeon Graphics products that were experiencing lower than expected performance in Destiny 2. AMD users may want to change their Settings > Preferred Software Version to Recommended + Optional for future updates.

June 3, 2021 In our TWaB blog post, we acknowledged that we made some major engine changes with the launch of Beyond Light - while working from home. Due to the pandemic, we haven't had access to our PC compatibility lab to do in-depth testing. We've been making improvements with each release even though they aren't called out in patch notes, and we're working with our partners to help address these issues and are optimistic about the future.

January 29, 2021 We have looked over the data post 3.0.2 launch: -- High-end users saw big improvements: we're about halfway back to pre-Beyond Light perf. -- Mid-range systems didn't see much improvement. -- Low-end and laptops didn't see much improvement. We're continuing to investigate and look for solutions toward better performance.

January 19, 2021 We released Update 3.0.2 that optimized Lighting on PC GPUs to help increase performance. -- Many folks have mentioned turning off the Shader Cache in the NVIDIA Control Panel. Does this help with performance?

December 14, 2020 We believe we found a few issues related to light probes that have led to GPU performance degradation. We're still investigating and hope to have a resolution in January.

Please use this thread to help us track down what is causing the issue by:
1. • Before beyond light i installed ONLY destiny 2 onto my 250gb hard drive. No issues whatsoever, no stuttering, no fps drops, however after beyond light after following all of the troubleshooting steps i always seem to drop down to around 1fps and freeze for a solid 10 seconds then will crash most of the time. This occurs when i first load up the game, most noticeably in the character selection, when loading destinations, or opening new things that i open at the start of the game boot. (quests, vendors etc) Specs: GPU - RTX 2060 Super 6gb CPU - Ryzen 7 2700 RAM - 16gb at 3333mhz M.2 SSD - Samsung EVO 970 Plus 250gb Really hop this gets fixed as i am starting to get frustrated when my game crashes 70% of the time.

  • Used to run it maxed out 150% rendering 85-110 fps, rarely would drop bellow 60, after Beyond Light I get 44fps standing still in the shore. Ryzen 7 3700x RX 5600 XT 16gb 3200Mhz (Corsair) B450m https://pastebin.com/52PQgpuS

Anywhere in the game, lots of areas of fps drops below ~10 fps for around 2 or 4 seconds, on Europa this issue occur less often, on Gambit and Crisol this issue is more severe. Using Latest drivers, Playing another games like Remnant From Ashes and Borderlands 3 don't have this issue. i have recreated the cvars.xml, tried disable the low latency, disabled and enabled v-sync, set everything to lowest setting possible including setting resolution to 720p but the issue still persist to happen Specs Windows 10 Pro CPU Intel i7-6700HQ CPU @ 2.60GHz GPU GeForce GTX 965M 4GB RAM 16GB SSD LITEON 128GB (OS), SAMSUNG 850 EVO 500GB (GAME) LAPTOP HP OMEN 17-W053DX https://pastebin.com/gbMdW3mt

Tried everything listed above. Didnt help. OCing my GPU Memory helped a tiny bit though. I have a Ryzen 1600 RX 5700XT 16 GB Ram @ 3200 Game installed on NVME Drive. After Beyond Light dropped my FPS in EDZ, Europa and Dreaming city have dropped to an average of 30-40 fps. I concur with the Volumetric fog idea. When im inside it runs at 100+ fps. Editing the CVAR to enable multi core rendering boosts fps massively, but i get the shadow flickering. DxDiag here. https://pastebin.com/9xi6b3Zy

    • Hey. I've had issues maintaining high framerate on my PC, but I only ever really started paying attention in shadowkeep - CPU has never seemed to be an issue and recently upgraded GPU so definitely should not have problems. My issue is more on the lines that my multi-monitor setup seems to completely get obliterated when I'm running Destiny 2. More specifically, if the game runs at higher than 60fps (e.g. uncapped), any video playing on another window will start to stutter and stop playback for multiple seconds at a time, and the game itself will suffer large FPS dips. I've only had this problem with D2. Similarly, I'm having the same trouble streaming the game as a result. Intel i5-6600K @ 4.4GHz Nvidia GeForce 3070 Game's running on SSD, if that matters. Game plays on 144hz monitor, other two are 60hz.

    • 2070 Super + 9600k here. Since the transition to steam I've been unable to get the game running as smoothly as it did pre-Shadowkeep. With BL it got much worse, with no changes at all to my system. It's two things: Lower FPS in many areas, particularly ones that have had their lighting adjusted. It's worst in the EDZ and tangled shore, where I've gone from 120-144 consistent FPS to 70-100 (running at 1440p). This happens regardless of the settings I use or my CPU or GPU utilization — even setting all options to low and the resolution to 720p, I still can't reliably get back to my original FPS levels. The other is stuttering, which has been a consistent problem since Shadowkeep, but got much worse with the update. It happens almost everywhere, but is particularly bad on Europa when e.g. transitioning between areas. I NEVER get stuttering when just standing still moving the mouse, but it kicks in when sliding, ADSing, etc from time to time. With stuttering I have tried every possible combination of all relevant settings you could possibly imagine. I have a G-Sync monitor (Asus PG279Q) and generally have G-Sync on, V-Sync on in the Nvidia control panel, and V-Sync off in-game, but have tried all combinations with no real improvement, even capping frames to 60 in the Nvidia control panel, in-game, and capping the monitor to 60Hz. The stuttering continues no matter what. I don't have the same issues here with any other games. One other little bit of context: when playing through the BL campaign, stuttering seemed worse and more frequent than after the campaign. This was consistent across all three playthroughs for my three characters. I assume it has something to do with the Europa weather being consistently foggy/snowy through most of the early campaign? Hope this helps.

Started a new topic: FPS Issues(1 Reply)

    • I been seeing frame drops in certain areas, but first specs. https://pastebin.com/H6aV4uFc My Pc specs: Windows 10 64bit CPU : Intel i5-9300H Graphics: GTX 1050 16 GB of ram Quick Summary. If you read nothing else please read this. I run the same settings as before Beyond light, which are the Nvidia recommended settings for my GPU. I have also got all of my processers running at max performance. Before Beyond Light Update: Consistent 60 fps everywhere Post Beyond Light: anywhere from 35- 60 fps depending on the area. Before Beyond Light: I could always get 60 fps in all areas. The only time before Beyond Light when my fps would drop was when there was was like six supers all going off at once. Post Beyond Light: I see fps drops in the edz, in some places in the cosmodrome, the tangled shore, the dreaming city, and in some places on Europa. In strikes I don't see many issues except for when there are a lot of effects going off. In gambit I see fps drops pretty often. I haven't played crucible much at all so no solid opinion there. I also don't have an opinion on the moon cause I don't go there cause I don't own Shadowkeep. Thanks for finally addressing this Bungie. Loved Beyond Light.

    • I am also seeing the same issue with heavy stuttering (especially after respawn) and dramatically lower frame rates in certain areas. My PC is: CPU: 3700X Graphics: 5700XT Pre-Beyond Light: 90-144 FPS with no stuttering/hitching Post Beyond Light: 45-90 FPS with heavy stuttering/hitching https://pastebin.com/9YaJyXLn Like others one bad place for low FPS is the Tangled Shore. I can reliably get stutter by going up the stairs to Hawthorne in the tower, when I exit the shadow on to the balcony she is standing on I get a big stutter. The worst FPS I have had in PvP has been on Convergence (45 FPS and a lot of stuttering). As for Clovis Bray Exoscience I think that is related to the raised platform in the main entrance. Frame rates drop hard when looking at it from any side, looking away the frame rate goes back up to normal. I have asked friends that aren't having FPS problems and they are seeing the same issue there. There must be some hidden geometry or something in the platform or something that is causing the bug in this area.

      • Prior to the DLC release, the game worked consistently well. After the release of the DLC, the FPS noticeably deteriorated, and after Hotfix 3.0.0.3 it is impossible to play fat. Locations began to load longer than usual, when trying to play a gambit, it throws them into orbit, and character models are not loaded in the crucible. I love this game very much and therefore I close my eyes to the low FPS and continue to play through force. I hope you will work on the optimization. https://pastebin.com/CSjyFtSN
I don’t want to show my computer configuration because it’s too funny compared to other users’s computers.
• Have a lot of users who are experiencing Texture Glitches and Flickering on Europa and Cosmodrone with SLI enabled. Disabling SLI and running one GPU fixes the issue but then causes some fps drops. Original Thread: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Post/257516021/0/0

      • I am seeing tearing, texture glitching, ghost walls on Europa. I am also experiencing extreme frame rate drops on spawn in Gambit and Crucible. Finally I am noticing significant frame drops during wraith hunts after entering boss instance. Never had issues prior to beyond light even though my rig is on the older side. CPU i7 - 4790k GPU - Dual GTX 980 Ram - 16 Gb @ 3200 Like others have mentioned, I will be chugging along at 90+ fps and drop down to less than 11 fps during these instances I mentioned above - completely unplayable at times. "Turn vsync on" "lower your monitor hz" You are asking for things that ruins our gaming experience, literally "turn your PC into a console" This problem wasn't there pre-BL with our PC AS IS. -I play on the lowest settings possible with render 90% only high textures, tried lowering it -Lowered the fov, I have my fps capped always, tried windowed/full screen -I did remove my CPU/GPU overclock, I turned on/off XMP -I've had gamebar disabled since forever -I've removed the cvars, even reinstalled the whole game. -I never have anything open while gaming, discord and DIM I use my phone. -Disabled the new settings for "low-latency" in the cvars -Enabled " force enable multi threaded render" which seems to help, but everything starts glitching. I'm getting lower frame rates everywhere in general, but specially on: -Tangled shore, awful fps, down to 40fps, if I go to spider goes back to 150+fps. -EDZ, dreaming city, those have a weird fog that wasn't there pre-BL, could be related, I get around 60fps from 120-50fps that I used to have. But mainly I have AWFUL stutters(drops to40-50 fps) no matter where I am or what activity I'm playing and ALL of this is exactly after the Beyond Light changes, only gameI have problems so far. • At the beginning of any Wrathborn hunt, I want to say especially in the Dreaming City but not only, the game stutters wildly. As in, freezes for full fractions of a second. It then settles down and flows decently. In general I have passable fps on my older i7 + 1080 rig with nvme storage, running windowed fullscreen. Gambit lags a fair bit, but that may not be fps related.

I have went from a consistent 60 to often dropping to 45 or even 30, especially in the presence of enemies and in areas like the edz or tangled shore, while going up to a consistent 60 in certain areas. Along with that my frame rate in the tower has barely changed Here is the dxdiag https://pastebin.com/UhG4TzAd
