[BNG] PC FPS Issues Megathread - UPDATE June 22

Hey, community. We're currently investigating FPS issues on PC.
UPDATES
June 22, 2021 Last night, AMD released Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.6.1 that fixes some Radeon Graphics products that were experiencing lower than expected performance in Destiny 2. AMD users may want to change their Settings > Preferred Software Version to Recommended + Optional for future updates.

June 3, 2021 In our TWaB blog post, we acknowledged that we made some major engine changes with the launch of Beyond Light - while working from home. Due to the pandemic, we haven't had access to our PC compatibility lab to do in-depth testing. We've been making improvements with each release even though they aren't called out in patch notes, and we're working with our partners to help address these issues and are optimistic about the future.

January 29, 2021 We have looked over the data post 3.0.2 launch: -- High-end users saw big improvements: we're about halfway back to pre-Beyond Light perf. -- Mid-range systems didn't see much improvement. -- Low-end and laptops didn't see much improvement. We're continuing to investigate and look for solutions toward better performance.

January 19, 2021 We released Update 3.0.2 that optimized Lighting on PC GPUs to help increase performance. -- Many folks have mentioned turning off the Shader Cache in the NVIDIA Control Panel. Does this help with performance?

December 14, 2020 We believe we found a few issues related to light probes that have led to GPU performance degradation. We're still investigating and hope to have a resolution in January.

Please use this thread to help us track down what is causing the issue by:
1. • So my performance has gotten even worse. I’ve lowered my settings and done everything in this “guide” and still get random frame drops. I’m so tired of this... I’ve just gotten used to frame rate drops which is pathetic. On my desktop with an AMD 5900x, RTX3080, 32GB ram, 2TB pcie4 I get Frame drops and stuttering with large explosions (even off screen) There is no specific place where this buggy game starts lagging. It’s literally anywhere at random times regardless of what is happening. The tower, alone in a dark cave and reloading my weapon, hovering over weapons to see the details in my inventory. The cosmodrome while being shot at... etc it’s be easier to just say where it doesn’t screw up which is nowhere. I guess it’s just an AMD issue because my laptop with an Intel i7, RTX2070, 16gb ram, 2TB Samsung name does not have any issues. The graphic settings are identical between my tower and laptop at this point. I keep lowering my towers graphics settings but it does not seem to change between highest, medium or low.

      • Are you guys planning on actually fixing this? It's been half a year since Beyond Light came out and my rig with a 5600X and an RX6800 can barely hit 60 FPS in the tangled shore. My shitty Razer Blade laptop was getting 120 FPS in those same areas. This is absolutely ridiculous.

FYI to all, turning off Freesync on my monitor has helped. Also set my min and max fps to 237 (3 under my monitors refresh rate) in Radeon Chill. It has not fixed the issue, not by a long shot but it has made the stuttering better. 3900XT 6900XT 32GB 3600mhz ram Gen 4 m.2 ssd

          • To everyone with an AMD GPU (either new gen or older gen), please open a case on AMD's website: https://www.amd.com/en/support/contact-email-form And in addition file a bug report directly within Radeon Software (under settings -> system -> issue report). At least some AMD employees are aware of the situation as you can see in this Reddit thread: https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/lr759l/wanna_know_about_destiny_2_with_driver_2042/gpfbxxc?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3 This is as much an AMD problem as well as a Bungie one, please report it to them too. The more we report it the highest the chance it will be fixed in future driver releases.

            • It all began back at the end of Season of the Worthy: I had started playing when Shadowkeep launched and had really good performance (almost smooth 60fps) for half a year. Then, all went to hell in Season of Arrivals, where basically the game still ran fine, but then decided to have these massive drops to the low tens out of nowhere. Even with lower settings, frames still dropped. Come Beyond Light, the game felt streamlined, yes, but occasionally frames still dropped and now I'm back to where it all began: as soon as I keep playing, frames drop massively for no reason. How can I run Doom Eternal at 60fps and Cyberpunk 2077 at above 30fps, while this game from 2017 decided to ruin its performance out of the blue?

            • I commented a couple of weeks into the start of this thread and seriously don't understand how there STILL hasn't been communication on this problem in almost 2 months. I'm still experiencing the same issues and feel like they continue to get worse, despite every stupid little "fix" that actually do nothing. I am running a 3700x and RTX 2060 super. I'm still getting atrocious frame rates, which I never had issues with in the past, to an unplayable point at times. Shader Cache didn't help. I've tried and done everything that I can to fix this to no avail. Like everyone else here, to say I'm irritated would be disingenuous as it quite an understatement.

            • 2 months without an update. Bravo Bungie, Bravo. But hey, why focus on the actual performance of your game when you have bigger issues to worry about like people's sexuality. What a disaster.

            • 50fps average, but found that altering forced multithreading to true in the cvars.xml would boost this up to the cap 144fps easy. However the game would become unstable with models and textures flashing rapidly sometimes. It seems that D2 has a problem with multiple cores on amd systems, it's not using all cpu cores it can, and when forced to performance improves massively, but them textures get screwed. Using 6800xt, a 5900x and got 32gb of ram.

Im an AMD user, 5900x, 6900xt. x570 (latest bios), 32gb 4000/18, 1tb Samsung EVO 980 Pro NVME 4.0/ 2tb WD Blue SATA SSD (Ive tried the game on both drives with the same results) I have tried EVERY fix that I can find on here, google and reddit, the only one that shows promise is forcing multithread in the CVARS file, but that leads to terrible flickering which I have no found a fix for.. Wtih the latest AMD GPU driver 21.3.1, performance for me plummeted (yes, it ran WORSE on a 5900x/6900xt setup... I had to roll back to 21.2.1 as its the only "stable" current driver I can use.. mind you Tangled Shore runs in the 40s for me.. but with 21.3.1, I was getting 40 FPS in orbit.. teens in the menu, and the tower was a slideshow.. Im also a victim of that stupid 64kb shader cache bug making my load times even worse, and terrible stuttering, no reported "fix" has helped.. And yes I did a DDU install as I always do when updating/installing GPU drivers.. Im at the end of my rope, and Im seriously getting ready to just drop this game for something else.. we were supposed to get a fix in January, that never happened obviously, it seems the only fix for AMD users is to use a ancient driver that isnt even supported with my GPU (I wouldnt roll back to a driver that old anyways..) But on the bright side, Outriders is right around the corner, and that one runs amazing on my rig...

                  • I have a brand new amd 6900 gpu. And destiny 2 performance is atrocious, huge menu lag, massive frame drops and awful frame time stutters and freezes. The game is basically broken, has been since beyond light launched. So far bungie haven't even replied or acknowledged the issue. Settings and resolution make no difference. A Gtx980 has better and more consistent performance.

                    • Reverting back to 20.4.2 fixed my fps issues for a while, but after this latest patch i've noticed frames have dipped back. For reference, in the tangled shore i used to get sub 40 fps in spawn, and with 20.4.2 fix i got about 80-100. It is now at around 50-70 with latest patch. Such bs...

                    • Your standard "canned solutions" arent going to work in this case. And this is the only game in my collection that runs like garbage (and the newest driver released on the 18th only made matters worse for 6000 series owners)

                    • While you are writing another one TWAB without mention FPS issues on PC, we are waiting for opportunity just play you game from November. You promised fix in January, but messed up with this. Month come to at end and there was no fix. 46-50 fps on RX5000/6000 with any graphics settings it's normal? Your silence only fuels discontent, maybe you tell us how solution is progressing this problem? I hope that this will be resolved with start of a new season, however there is only a week and a half left.

                      • Performance issues in general for the whole game for me. Tangled shore is terrible. I have lowered down to 1080p medium to try and get better fps to no avail. Get around 45fps on the tangled shore, about 100 in most parts and in some rare spots for short times about 150fps. GPU utilisation sits at about 65% for me, never going above 70%. My old 1050ti laptop used to get over 60fps at 1080p constantly and it never dropped below, now if I try and use it I barely get 30fps (normally about 20). For some perspective i can mine crypto on my gpu and cpu at the same time as playing if i want and get only about a 20% drop in framerates. Clearly an issue with how much is being utilised. System Specs: CPU: 5900X Ram: 32GB 3200 Cl16 GPU: Radeon RX 6800XT

                      • I’m only getting around 25fps in multiplayer at all low settings and everything off in game and AMD settings. I have a 6800xt and Ryzen 5 5600X which is joke to to be getting that. I’ve tried everything and nothing helps.
