[BNG] PC FPS Issues Megathread - UPDATE June 22

Hey, community. We're currently investigating FPS issues on PC.
UPDATES
June 22, 2021 Last night, AMD released Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.6.1 that fixes some Radeon Graphics products that were experiencing lower than expected performance in Destiny 2. AMD users may want to change their Settings > Preferred Software Version to Recommended + Optional for future updates.

June 3, 2021 In our TWaB blog post, we acknowledged that we made some major engine changes with the launch of Beyond Light - while working from home. Due to the pandemic, we haven't had access to our PC compatibility lab to do in-depth testing. We've been making improvements with each release even though they aren't called out in patch notes, and we're working with our partners to help address these issues and are optimistic about the future.

January 29, 2021 We have looked over the data post 3.0.2 launch: -- High-end users saw big improvements: we're about halfway back to pre-Beyond Light perf. -- Mid-range systems didn't see much improvement. -- Low-end and laptops didn't see much improvement. We're continuing to investigate and look for solutions toward better performance.

January 19, 2021 We released Update 3.0.2 that optimized Lighting on PC GPUs to help increase performance. -- Many folks have mentioned turning off the Shader Cache in the NVIDIA Control Panel. • To start with, my system is fully stable and gets all of the expected benchmark scores and performance levels in other games. This is an isolated Destiny 2 only issue. My 6900XT, which gets well over double the FPS of my RTX 2080 in every single game and double the benchmark scores gets less than 25% the FPS my 2080 got in D2. I'm talking dips well below 60fps even at 1920x1080 resolution- on a 6900XT. The performance issue is absolutely everywhere-tower, crucible, tangled shore, europa, the new 6 man activity; 40-60fps when my 2080 would be getting 200 minimum. If this will help the devs at all- looking at GPU Z it seems obvious the GPU is not being stressed or fed enough work when running this game. In other games it will pull a full 300 watts and clock the GPU core to nearly 2.5Ghz constantly. In Destiny 2 it never consumes more than 100 watts and never clocks itself above 1.5Ghz- GPU load never goes above 40%. It just sits there with low clocks, low power consumption, low GPU usage while the framerate is still low.

THIS MIGHT HELP BUNGIE: I've discovered that the longstanding stuttering issues I've had with this game (which I had been blaming on 3000 series Nvidia drivers) are in fact the fault of WIRELESS Xbox controller inputs. Specifically, Xbox 360 pads (although it possibly occurs on the newer gen ones too). What happens is general gameplay will be lovely and smooth but then suddenly the frame rate will utterly tank from anywhere between 10-30 frames per second - for the briefest of moments, so it feels like stutter and it is extremely noticeable in the visual and input response sense. This happens maybe every 30-50 seconds while playing. For months and months it had been driving me mad and I'd tried absolutely everything to solve it, and then I discovered the root cause by pure chance... For a different game, my son had plugged a WIRED Xbox 360 controller into the PC and I then eventually used that pad to play Destiny with. Lo and behold, I immediately noticed the stutter had completely disappeared! The problem was solved. This only happens with Destiny 2, and it is a relatively newer issue (I'd say present since New Light). I've also tested my wirelessly connected keyboard and mouse to make sure they weren't interfering with the controller signal - they do not. Hopefully this info can assist Bungie with an issue which has potentially been plaguing the game and hassling players for months.

      • With Driver 21.4.1 I was able to lock my core clock to a certain number. I was surprised with what I saw, stock settings it stays at around 900mhz with 90% usage, which looks logical looking at the relatively low clock that is uses. Then I used a core clock at around 2200mhz and locked that via driver which made the usage being stuck at around 35%. This is a very weird behavior and I can't tell if this is a game or driver issue. I will test driver 21.5.1 tomorrow and see if that brings any new oddities to the table. I'd really like to help in any way possible bungie...

      • It's disappointing that this is still an issue after 6 months. It's even more disappointing that there has been zero communication for nearly 4 months other than a one line mention in the recent twab. Sadly, and I'm probably not alone in this, due to this issue all future Bungie/Destiny game purchases have moved onto my "wait and see" list. I hope this franchise can eventually earn my trust back.

      • Still garbage performance (zero performance improvement) in season of the splicer update. Already posted this multiple times, but: 3950X, 6900XT, 64GB 3200MHz. Out of curiosity, I dupated drivers to 21.4.1 and this make the fps drop issue even worse, particularly when loading into a new activity (about a minute ot fps drop before the game "stabilizes", and even then I still get massive frame drops when something has the audacity to try and shoot at me. On 20.x.x the fps drop issue was tolerable, despite the fact that I was getting ~80 fps in most maps, and 50-60 fps in the usual "suspect" locations (tangled shore, most of europa, DSC, etc.).

            • Any updates? The performance is unacceptable currently and we're beginning to wonder if you guys are even trying to fix it at all. It's been 6 months since beyond light's release.

At this point, I don't know why I still support bungie. I have been playing the game and supporting this game since 2014, why is this the treatment that we receive

              • So i have since maybe beyond light constantly fps problems which appear and then dissappear. Ive triet many many things especially related to AMD which i use and in future wont anymore xD But at this moment im playing and there are only about 1/10 of other players online and lol i have everywhere constant 60 fps. So weather its a thing related to my Internet Provider (vodafone/unitymedia) OR its on your side Bungie. If others of you players experience this now too pls comment the more the bigger the 2nd reason it the cause :D

              • Is this ever going to be fixed? 50 FPS on Tangled Shore with an RX 6800. We also just entered Season of the 40 FPS Vex Nonsense.

                • Still problems, i'am with a Ryzen 9 3900x, 32GB of RAM and a Radeon 6900XT and getting huge FPS Spikes, low GPU utilizations and only 60 FPS in good situation while my 1080Ti can achive 100-150 FPS without Spikes. This problem is created with Beyond Light, i would not say anything, but in this current status play the game is pain with this Spikes and FPS Issue, especially if you pay 1000+ EUR for a card that can achive every game with high-fps without spikes BUT for Destiny it gets bad performance, I wouldn't say anything but please do something, its been 4 months and we cannot get this HUGE issue fixed.

Still the same with Radeon 6900XT and new 21.5.1 AMD drivers. Come on Bungie, this is getting ridiculous. Your paying customers since 2014 deserve better support on this front.

                  • The last update was on January 29th! Over three months without any update on the progress. This is ridiculous. The way Bungie is handling this issue is going to be the final straw that keeps me from continuing on with this game I love. Why would I continue to spend money on a game that can't even get the performance of last generation GPUs with the newest generation of GPUs and ignores customers for months on end about an issue you admit to being aware of. PISS POOR folks, PISS POOR. I bought every expansion, season pass, and spent tons on Eververse. Built a PC specifically to play the game on PC Jumped through hoops to acquire a new GPU, spend close to $600 and it performs worse than my old GPU. No other game has these issues. Every game I have performs better with the new GPU except Destiny 2. We get no responses to our posts, tweets, and other means of communication, we get ignored. Why should we expect any better treatment in the future on other potential issues?

THESE STEPS FIXED MY ISSUES NEARLY 100% R7 5800X | 6800XT Hi all, I released ticket to AMD and got following steps back (below) I had tried DDU the drivers before, but without success, same problems continued on and on. For the latest 21.4.1 driver version I did not bother to DDU and saw no improvement whatsoever. -> Released ticket to AMD. I see following biggest difference from my earlier behavior: - I did not bother to run all windows updates before installing new drivers. - I did not restrict manually windows from trying to install new device drivers (GPU) after DDU'ing old ones. - I've ran installer without networking or antivirus activated. - Don't know which one helped, but its running butter smooth now - Except tangled shore. I've tried crucible for various different maps. I still get some occasional stutters, but very rarely. Before they were about every 10 seconds. I wont be returning into this topic anymore so do not bother to ask me how to restrict windows or how to turn your antivirus off -> google it out. Step 1 – Please use DDU Utility (Display Driver Uninstaller) by launching it in Safe mode and uninstall the previous driver. It will help you completely uninstall AMD graphics card drivers and packages from your system, without leaving leftovers behind. Step 2 – then restart your computer again and enter into the normal windows mode. Step 3 - install all the critical and recommended updates from Windows. (make sure windows is not installing the display driver) Step 4 – Again restart the computer and then install drivers by clicking this below link. Please disconnect the network connection and disable antivirus before running the installer file. https://www.amd.com/en/support/graphics/amd-radeon-6000-series/amd-radeon-6800-series/amd-radeon-rx-6800-xt

I recently found a fix for low fps issues I was having with a 1080ti and an i7-7700k processor. What I did was go into windows update and uninstall the update "feature update to windows 10 version 20h2 via enablement package" this caused me to go from 18 fps in orbit back to my original 144+ fps in orbit. I hope this helps anyone else having these issues.

                      • Really hoping at this point we get a fix for next season. With new game updates/amd drivers I'm now getting stutters occasionally in pvp on top of tanked framerates.seem tp be going backwards with time. Honestly at this point I'd rather get half the content for a season and just get framerates fixed like they were in yr 1.
