[BNG] PC FPS Issues Megathread - UPDATE June 22

Hey, community. We're currently investigating FPS issues on PC.
UPDATES
June 22, 2021 Last night, AMD released Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.6.1 that fixes some Radeon Graphics products that were experiencing lower than expected performance in Destiny 2. AMD users may want to change their Settings > Preferred Software Version to Recommended + Optional for future updates.

June 3, 2021 In our TWaB blog post, we acknowledged that we made some major engine changes with the launch of Beyond Light - while working from home. Due to the pandemic, we haven't had access to our PC compatibility lab to do in-depth testing. We've been making improvements with each release even though they aren't called out in patch notes, and we're working with our partners to help address these issues and are optimistic about the future.

January 29, 2021 We have looked over the data post 3.0.2 launch: -- High-end users saw big improvements: we're about halfway back to pre-Beyond Light perf. -- Mid-range systems didn't see much improvement. -- Low-end and laptops didn't see much improvement. We're continuing to investigate and look for solutions toward better performance.

January 19, 2021 We released Update 3.0.2 that optimized Lighting on PC GPUs to help increase performance. -- Many folks have mentioned turning off the Shader Cache in the NVIDIA Control Panel. Does this help with performance?

December 14, 2020 We believe we found a few issues related to light probes that have led to GPU performance degradation. We're still investigating and hope to have a resolution in January.

Please use this thread to help us track down what is causing the issue by:
1. I am encountering problems everywhere, but it is worst in strikes, crucible, Tangled Shore, the Tower, and Europa. Have tried various fixes but nothing seems to stick. The problem does seem to be better sometimes after playing for a bit. DxDiag: https://pastebin.com/t2YLhazn

Prior to Beyond Light, I ran the game at 90fps locked regardless of where I was. Trying all the fixes listed below, I was not able to improve performance however, enabling force_enable_multi_threaded_render_submit in my CVARS.xml did improve performance but also caused the game to flicker. The drop in FPS is most noticeable in older content and within the first room of Bray Exoscience. DxDiag: https://pastebin.com/jmLviLa9

    • Does this thread apply to those having low fps during cutscenes as well? Or just those having fps drops during gameplay?

https://pastebin.com/Drvy9hjL Gtx 1080, i5 6600k, 8bg DDR4, I had to drop my resolution scaling down by from 80% to 70% of 4k res (Gtx 1080)to maintain a close 60fps. Still getting dips and random stutters in certain areas. HDR is also broken on Nessus and Gambit maps. Prior to the Update, I had a locked 60fps at 80% 4k scaling, high settings except in the most demanding scenarios, and even then it didn't dip as bad as it does now.

      • my FPS tanks during cutscenes, but gameplay outside of them still seems fine. however, i get kicked to orbit from any cutscene, and it is difficult to skip them due to the lagging and chugging. this goes for teh season intro cutscene and BL cutscences. it makes the game almost unplayable.

          Started a new topic: .

        • Hello BNGHelp6, liturally you only need to fix: <cvar name="force_enable_multi_threaded_render_submit" value="0"/> and bring some performance updates and the issue is nearly fixed completly. In general it is deactivated which causes a huge lag issue. If you activate it you have texture flickering of doom.

          - I see FPS drops in character choosing menu when hoovering over the chars the first time, on europa in bray exo tech, in inventory, ... - hanging Loading animation with "attention: conntacting destiny servers every time" i travel or loading into the game (<-- this seems to be solved by complete reinstalling the game) - "hanging" mouse when in character inventory - stuttering animation when traveling - sometimes stuttering in caves The performance issues (fps) drops began after installing the BL update. Before it running smooth. What i have done: reinstalling the game, reseting all the configuration, run nvidia experience optimisation. My Computer CPU, GPU running without overclocking with default values. Here my dxdiag: https://pastebin.com/ZehBs9kp I play now more often on my ps4 crosssave account now, because the performance is better there. Edit 27.11: Today it can't even land on any planet (europa, tower)...Got only loading screen --> black Screen --> hang up --> back to windows without any error codes. File check was OK. After much trying i got it back to work when i deleted cvars.xml. Its frustrating on PC...

May I talk about my problem? The problem is ALL OF PC CINEMATIC CUTSCENES FPS DROPS. Beyond Light Cutscene, Zavala talking Cutscene, Season of the Hunt Cutscene, New Light Cutscene all of it have terrible Fps drops. Here is my Dxdiag again: https://pastebin.com/mSz7sh3v My PC is: - Windows 7 64bit - CPU i5-4460 - GPU GeForce GTX 750 Ti - 8.00GB Ram It was an old pc but it didn't matter to play Destiny before Beyond Light. And.... so many other Destiny users complaining of inconvenience, too: https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/257517468?sort=0&page=0 https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/257509532?showBanned=0&path=0 Please take this matter seriously.

I get fps drops whenever i load into a planet at first, and it takes like 5 minutes for the frame drops to stop. I also get hit with infinite loading screens sometimes.

        • Where I am having FPS issues: - Menu and Character Screen - Stuttering and fps drops especially when loading into a map. - Tangled Shore - 45 fps - Braytech Facility on Europa - 40-50 fps - Gambit - 60-70 fps - When killing exploding enemies - drops about 40 fps - Cruicible - Drops to 70 and 80 fps with lots of stutters - When a guardian uses a stasis super - Drops to 80-90 fps - The moon - Drops to 30 fps in first season mission These are only a few of the areas I have seen issues. I have tried all the suggested fixes with no improvement. The fps is the same with high and low settings. My GPU and CPU utilization are both under 40 percent in game. The only improvement I see is with enabling multithreading in the CVAR but this causes a lot of visual flickering and frame rates aren't as high as they should be. My setup is a r7 3700x, rx 5700xt, 32 gb of 3200 MHz ram, Asus Tum x-570 plus motherboard, and a nvme ssd. Temps for the CPU and GPU stay under 60 as well. If I cap my framerate at 60 I see less issues but I shouldn't have to do that. My fps in other games is 160-200 (Battlefront 2 2017). Here is the link to my DxDiag. https://pastebin.com/UKtqEvxL

The issue originally occurred for me immediately after Beyond Light was launched. It was temporarily resolved after I updated my Nvidia drivers, but came back the next day. After attempting the steps above, I saw significant improvement after disabling my MSI Afterburner curve and returning my GPU to its default clock speed. No other steps seem to have made an impact. The issue has affected my overall framerate in most cases where my GPU is being stressed, so basically all destinations and activities. It's at it's worst in Tower and Europa. https://pastebin.com/ChW8utne

Hi, Ive also encountered this issue. Started noticing it when BL came out, thought it was my System first that was causing this issue then tried to reinstall the game and look for fixes online (also did all the Suggestions from @BNGHelp6 from 1-16), even went further and re-installed Windows because of it. Nothing Helped. Before BL, I managed to hold constant 140+ Frames on High Settings except Public Areas and Gambit (110-120). Now, it barely holds itself up to 80 FPS in EVERY activity and it's even worse in Public areas and Gambit dropping down to 60-70. The FPS's aren't that big of an issue for me personally. It's more the stuttering that came with it. Whenever there is an Enemy Spawning, PVP or even Randy's on my Screen my Game seems to stutter and it becomes unplayable for me. Only happens with Destiny 2, not on other Games. Regardless of me trying to change every in-game Graphic Settings to LOW, nothing has changed. Even if it sux, i'm glad that i'm not the only one with this issue because I was losing my Sanity trying to fix it :D Hope they can fix it soon! Best of luck. • The game after BL has in my opinion just been worse everywhere for fps, I don´t think I personally have stutters but my FPS has dropped with about 40fps even after I have lowered settings. The worst fps I have is probably on Europa and the Tangled Shore. Used to have about 110fps on the Tangled shore now it drops to 70-80fps. EDZ has also been pretty horrendous with my fps dropping from about 100+ to struggling to push 70fps+ Windows 10 64 bit CPU intel i7 8700 @ 3.20 GHz GPU CERBERUS 1070TI 8gb 16GB DDR4 3200MHz DxDiag here https://pastebin.com/ya6XNXaj

        • To anyone having stutter issues I suggest you try to follow the fix where you remove the gamebar, it got rid of most of the stutter for me but the performance is still bad in most open areas, the EDZ was always bad now its even worse. I was really hoping they would bring Vulkan to PC but it doesn't look like they even care lol. • Game constantly freezes and crashes when going to new planets, in particular Dreaming City, Tangled Shore, and Europa are the most consistent. The only change I made before BL was to update my graphics card drivers. All settings are the same and "optimized" using GeForce Experience.

            • Before beyond light i installed ONLY destiny 2 onto my 250gb hard drive. No issues whatsoever, no stuttering, no fps drops, however after beyond light after following all of the troubleshooting steps i always seem to drop down to around 1fps and freeze for a solid 10 seconds then will crash most of the time. This occurs when i first load up the game, most noticeably in the character selection, when loading destinations, or opening new things that i open at the start of the game boot. (quests, vendors etc) Specs: GPU - RTX 2060 Super 6gb CPU - Ryzen 7 2700 RAM - 16gb at 3333mhz M.2 SSD - Samsung EVO 970 Plus 250gb Really hop this gets fixed as i am starting to get frustrated when my game crashes 70% of the time.
