[BNG] PC FPS Issues Megathread - UPDATE June 22

Hey, community. We're currently investigating FPS issues on PC.
UPDATES
June 22, 2021 Last night, AMD released Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.6.1 that fixes some Radeon Graphics products that were experiencing lower than expected performance in Destiny 2. AMD users may want to change their Settings > Preferred Software Version to Recommended + Optional for future updates.

June 3, 2021 In our TWaB blog post, we acknowledged that we made some major engine changes with the launch of Beyond Light - while working from home. Due to the pandemic, we haven't had access to our PC compatibility lab to do in-depth testing. We've been making improvements with each release even though they aren't called out in patch notes, and we're working with our partners to help address these issues and are optimistic about the future.

January 29, 2021 We have looked over the data post 3.0.2 launch: -- High-end users saw big improvements: we're about halfway back to pre-Beyond Light perf. -- Mid-range systems didn't see much improvement. -- Low-end and laptops didn't see much improvement. We're continuing to investigate and look for solutions toward better performance.

January 19, 2021 We released Update 3.0.2 that optimized Lighting on PC GPUs to help increase performance. -- Many folks have mentioned turning off the Shader Cache in the NVIDIA Control Panel. Does this help with performance?

December 14, 2020 We believe we found a few issues related to light probes that have led to GPU performance degradation. We're still investigating and hope to have a resolution in January.

Please use this thread to help us track down what is causing the issue by:
1. • I was told on Reddit to post here regarding fps issues. Before Beyond Light my computer would basically maintain 144hz with small drops here and there, within normal parameters. After Beyond Light, my computer is constantly experiencing frame rate drops in certain areas (of which I have taken specific detail on), but my average frame rates have also decreased from 144fps to generally around 100fps (with no hardware changes to the system). The Dreaming City experiences frame rates as low as 55fps and as high as 80. The moon experiences 75-99. Tangled Shore experiences 75-95, but when you get to Sorik's Cut, the game stutters as if its going to crash and goes as low as 45fps. EDZ averages 80-110fps. Europa experiences an average of 90-133fps (definitely the best in game). I rarely visit Nessus, so I cant say for sure. In any regard, my system exceeds the recommended specifications for the game. I am running on an Intel i7-7700k (at Base clock); 32 gigs of DDR4; and an Asus Strix 1080ti. I'm running on a Seasonic 1000W PSU, so I don't see power inconsistencies being the issue and the game runs on an M.2 SSD so read/write isn't an issue either.

Same for me when I switched from RTX2080 to 6800XT. Everywhere lower FPS than I had with my 2080. All settings maxed out except render resolution at 100. FPS 50-80 depending from area. GPU load looks absolutely weird, it is bouncing between 50-75% usage constantly. I have now tried all above. Not sure whether downgrading my drivers will help, since it's a freshly release GPU, but I can try. E: Can't try older, because this is the first version available that I can find. https://pastebin.com/Kjf7ngjq

      • After the release of Beyond Light, the FPS loss in all activities by 30-40%, up to 80 fps. With ANY settings and after all the tips that are written in this post. It seems to me that all this happened after the changes in lighting and shaders in the game. Bungie, just put everything back in, and do some normal tests before releasing these changes. I think no one will mind if everything is returned back, in terms of graphics. AMD Ryzen 5 3600 6-Core Processor ~3.6GHz MSI RTX 2070s 16 Gb DDR4 ADATA SSD m2 Windows 10

      • Radeon 5700XT, Ryzen 7 3700X, 32GB RAM @ 3200Mhz. Thieves Landing spawn zone, Dreaming City spawn zone see the heaviest slowdown issues. Dropped from 100+ FPS before BL update to ~47 FPS in these zones currently. Just came here to drop my info in here. I've tried some of these suggestions here. Going to try switching to older drivers today. There's obviously more going on here, as both AMD and Nvidia users are seeing different issues since BL. Thanks for the megathread.

EDIT: After further testing it seems there is still a slight stutter with this driver. Frames are pretty much back to normal though. Not perfect but close, better than anything else I've tried. Milky Pie and Morningstar are correct AMD drivers 20.4.1 fixes the fps issues, for me at least. Download the AMD clean up utility and run that. It will remove your current adrenaline drivers. https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/faq/gpu-601 Then after rebooting redownload the 20.4.1 adrenaline https://www.amd.com/en/support/kb/release-notes/rn-rad-win-20-4-1

About every 5 seconds, my frames drop from 75fps down to 20fps for 1-2secs. Along with this, I noticed the frame drops occur at the same time my gpu and cpu usage drop down a significant amount. However, I'm not sure why the gpu/cpu usage is dropping? Video setting are already set to lowest they can go, I've tried with and without vsync/gsync, and windowed/fullscreen My laptop specs: I7-6700HQ Nvidia GTX 1060 12gb ram Installed on HDD

        • Having severe lag and FPS/Stuttering on tangled shore and dreaming city. Sometimes game loads me into a random spot once entering dreaming city. Notice it most when doing wrathborn hunts on these planets especially. Almost unplayable. I have tried deleting cvars and all that. lowered resolution, nothing seems to help. My game runs flawlessly at 2k at 140 plus fps on every other planet and game mode. https://pastebin.com/ukYN14T6 My PC specs i7 7700k Nvidia rtx 2080 super 32gb ddr4 ram M2 SSD

        • It really sucks having all these fps drops right after doing a new PC build. Got a RX 5700 XT and a Ryzen 3600 and I'm over here panicking like crazy, messing around with my overclocking, making sure all my drivers are up to date, even thought maybe it's my PSU dying on me and that I need a new one. Then I remember that none of this happened until Beyond Light was released. Seriously, I could hit about 100-120 fps average, now I'm lucky to get above 70-80. Unless I'm in the Tangled Shore where most of the seasonal content is, then I'm lucky to even break 60, usually around 55. I've done all the recommended solutions to no avail, can only hope this gets fixed soon before many D2 addicts like myself get bored and tired of waiting. Rip

          • dxdiag My frames got almost halved in the Tangled Shore and everywhere else they went down 10-20 fps. Crucible and Gambit is hard to play because of all the stutters, everything started happening after Beyond Light was released. Nothing I did really changed the performance, haven't changed anything either before the expansion dropped.

Dear Bungie, Main syntomphs: - Stuttering in Menu and during playing - Low FPS in various locations in a game (Tangled Shore, Tower, Cosmodrome, Europa) My spec: Ryzen 3600 16GB RAM 3000Mhz MSI B450 Tomahawk Max Radeon 6800XT Below cases are @ unlocked framecap in game. Descimer: My AMD tools shows that GPU is using only 30-40% of power. Please note that these sympthoms are not present in any other game I tested. Case#1: Resolution: 4k, Highest graphical preset 80-85 FPS in Tower Case#2: Resolution 4k, Low Graphical preset 80-85 FPS in Tower Case#3 Resolution 2k, Highest Graphical preset 80-85 FPS in Tower Case#4 Resolution 2k, Low Graphical preset 80-85 FPS in Tower Case#5 Resolution 720p, Low Graphical preset 80-85 FPS in Tower As you can see above, ingames settings doesn't matter for a framerate. During gameplay in addition to complete stuttering, game can slow down to below 30fps for brief moment. Average FPS during casual gameplay @Europa is about 60FPS. Because of above, game is not playbale. If you require more technical details or logdump from my system, please contact me. https://pastebin.com/4BABjJ7M

I have had my system professional tuned for gaming. Before beyond light I was getting 180-200+ frames in all activities at 1440p resolution running all high settings PC Specs: Ryzen 9 3900xt MSI RTX 3080 Ventus 3x 64GB DDR4 3200mhz M.2 PCIE4 SSD NZXT Kraken Z73 AIO After beyond light I have had to lower my graphic settings and can barely achieve the following: 130-150 frames in Crucible 100 frames in Gambit 120-150 frames in Strikes playlist 100-120 frames on Europa Even in orbit my frames went from pre beyond light (400-500) to beyond light (250-300) Game is poorly optimized and the new engine is garbage.

Tangled shore seems to be the worst. EDZ not far behind. ryzen 3600x, radeon 5700xt. 16gb 3200 ram. https://pastebin.com/aKAtcJKz

              • ISSUES: heavy fps drop, heavy stutter, sometimes rarely the game freezes and sounds keeps playing. SPECS: CPU: Intel i7 9700 3.0ghz (8core) GPU: RTX 2080 super (8gb VRAM) 16gb of ram 2666mhz For me the craziest zones are EDZ, tangled shore, Cosmodrome. But the stutter atleast seems to persist everywhere so does the fps drop but not as bad as the zones mentioned before the stutter is as bad, its to the point where its unplayable. For me the issues didnt start until i completed the raid DSC for a second time and got the Eyes of Tommorow exotic rocket launcher. I even have video proof that show some zones in European dead Zone that when i pass through them my game drops fps allot and stutters in specific zones too not just random, its almost like the game does a full restart when i reach that single point in the map.

              • I have the same performance issue as many others that have posted here. While on Tangled shores load out zone i get around 45fps with 30-60% GPU usage The same behavior exhibits across Tower region and other demanding zones. I notice that all across the game GPU usage is low on 1080p, around ~30-80%, regardless of video settings. I also experience micro stuttering issues where the game freezes for half a second or even less, and it happens quite often. Switching to "force_enable_multi_threaded_render_submit" = 1 improves performance but gives lots of flickering artifacts, while micro stuttering issue is still present. I've tried all the other solutions provided in the thread but nothing helps. All other games run smooth with 95%+ GPU usage and no issues whatsoever. PC specs: https://pastebin.com/msaD031N

              • I'm getting FPS drops in the main tangled shore landing zone, Europa, Tower, and The Cosmodrome. My framerate sometimes drops to the low 40s, before this update my framerate was a stable 75 FPS. Other games run fine on my PC and are very smooth, this is to my knowledge the only game I am having problems with performance wise. PC Specs: https://pastebin.com/pkdaZ50t

              • I upgraded from Nvidia 1070ti to AMD 6800 and the fps has been significantly reduced. Though it was AMD driver issue but I ran Control with highest graphics setting no problem - avg stable 80 fps. With Destiny 2 I constently get less than 60 fps no matter highest or lowest graphics settings... Tower is always around 60~70 fps and dont get me started with Tangle Shore - 30~40 fps. I know this game is always towards to Nvidia but damn I did not see this coming. https://pastebin.com/J8MAQrq8
