  • Consistently experiencing severe fps drops in all zones since Beyond Light launched. the issues have been the worst in the dreaming city and the EDZ, specifically in Trostland. I run on medium/low settings, excluding textures where I run high. Prior to Beyond Light, these graphics settings would give me a mostly stable 60fps (would drop occasionally to 55-ish when looking at dense zones from extremely long distances) across all zones with a render resolution of 100% at 1080x1920. Since the launch of Beyond Light, my prior settings would result in frames anywhere from 55 when looking at low-traffic areas and skyboxes to as low as 35 in areas like the EDZ and the Dreaming City. Most consistent framerate is around 45-50 fps. I've since cranked render resolution down to 90%, but the game still suffers severe drops and hovers around 50fps at most times. Even when render resolution is set to the minimum, the game still experiences micro stuttering. Tested this with Vsync on and off, made no difference. Even when playing at the lowest possible graphics settings across the board, the game will experience stutters and fps loss. Hi, my post got noticed so I am reposting all details here as suggested by a BungieHelp account! TLDR: (Based on lots of experimentation) Framerates dips for maximum of 40% when looking at light sources behind a new 'volumetric haze' effect that was added in Beyond Light (Notably but not limited to areas in the EDZ, the Tangled Shores, and the interior of Braytech Exoscience on Europa). When looking at anywhere else, framerate either does not change much from before or the change is not as noticable. My DxDiag is here, however I am very sorry that my system language is locked in Chinese. The format of the file is the same as the English version and also the system details but I am afraid the titles to each section is going to be in Chinese. I hope this can still provide value: https://pastebin.com/5YFWMY2b FULL REPORT: Ever since beyond light launched my framerate has dropped for about 40% maximum and 20% on average and I have noticed a number of players having the same issue on PC with a wide range of specs. I have done some experiments these few days and have figured that, at least for me, -The relative fps drop (~40% lower after Beyond Light), does not seem to decrease when I lower the resolution (even to 25% render percentage at the lowest possible resolution settings, when destiny 2 literally looks like a 8 bit game) wiithout lowering the graphic settings, or lowering the graphic settings to the lowest without lowering the resolution. This indicates that the performance issue is caused by something relatively independent of rendering resolution, and relatively independent of all graphic settings offered. -When my fps drops, my GPU hits 100%, which indicates this is a GPU related issue and therefore is more likely to be related to the newly implemented shader/lighting system revamp. -My fps only drops when I am looking at a certain object/angle when I observed its fluctuation at different points of the map, indicating this drop is more likely linked to a new effect that is (1) implemented after version 3.0.0.1 and (2) not ambiently active in the world like the general contrast/satuation tweak. -My fps drops the hardest in the EDZ, the Tangled Shores and the lobby of Braytech Exosience on Europa. In all of these locations I noticed a fog/haze that was not there before Beyond Light. I then confirmed that, yes, when turning my FOV around when standing still, my fps has indeed dropped the hardest when I look at the new foggy effects. I have then done a series of tests changing my relative position to a light source in the game and the fog, and have then come to a conclusion that the framerate drops the most when a light source is behind this volumetric effects I mentioned. I have also confirmed that this fog effect would not be disabled on all graphic settings offered, even at the lowest. The EDZ, the Tangled Shore and some areas in Braytech Exoscience were covered with these new effects, therefore my framerate dropped the most, while on ourdoors Europa a very clear comparison can be seen. At Cadmus Ridge, if I looked at any light on the Vex structure through the fog, my fps will drop. If there were no light sources in my FOV at the same exact location looking at nearly the same angle (e.g. I move my FOV for a little bit, so that all light sources JUST leaves the edge of my view), my framerate bursts to a healthy stable 60fps. According the the forementioned research, I highly suspect the culprit for the drop is either the new fog effect itself, or some weird interaction of light through this volumetric fog. I dont know exactly if this is intended (maybe next-gen consoles have better optimisation for these effects?) or has a possibility to be fixed. What I am asking is just an confirmation if this is intended, or an option to swich off only the fog in the graphic settings in a future update. I really hope that my information would help the community and the team! Edit: In addition, all recommended solutions in the main thread has been tried with no avail, as well as these methods: -Clean installing Nvidia drivers -Clearing DirectX cache and Nvidia cache -Turning off Nvidia shader cache -Turning off Nvidia Reflex by altering the option in CVARS -Deleting CVARS

    • My issues are new onset starting on Dec 5th, 2020. I'm running a Ryzen 3900X and a 3090FE with 64GB of RAM. Here is my PasteBin (https://pastebin.com/KjAJw29d) The issue is isolated to D2 and does not replicate on any other game or application. Before 12/5/2020 I was playing D2 with consistent 4K100fps performance in all areas, with seldom dips below 100fps. Upon application launch yesterday, the issue was noticed where the frames would initiate in the character select screen to hover between 30-35fps and then once launched into orbit would dip to 22-28fps avg. When launching into destinations performance decreased further. Task manager listed CPU usage to <15% at all times, and GPU usage Far from 100%. I updated my NVIDIA drivers assuming that a new driver would benefit performance. The problem persisted, so I decided to roll back the drivers to a version where I once had stability. On a successful roll back, the issue subsided after several reboots and I continued playing at my expected performance. After turning on my PC from an 'off state' this morning and launching D2, the extreme low FPS issue had returned. I followed the listed troubleshooting to no solution. No other games are experiencing performance issues. There is nothing noteworthy in GPU-Z or CPU-Z. Don't want to re-install or anything extreme, but I'm perplexed as to why this issue is new onset.

So as far as I've been able to tell the issues regarding fps drops mostly stem the game's new lighting and shader systems. I had the same issues when beyond light launched but eventually landed on the fix from a twitter post to delete the shaders on NVIDIA's shader cache which did work I wouldn't be surprised if somehow there was some phantom cache of the old shaders before beyond light that somehow weren't overwritten properly. Posting this would make you assume as to why I'm making this post anyway, well for starters this was fixed when I had a GTX 1060 at the time but now I have upgraded and managed to secure AMD's new RX 6800 XT on launch day. All those same issues came back and well I did forget at first to delete all of the NVIDIA drivers before swapping my GPU but I did DDU after troubleshooting and also reset my windows install and cleaned my boot drive, but alas no luck. Unfortunately AMD's adrenalin software does not allow you to turn off shader cache and can only perform a reset which I have no idea why they did that. I did everything I feel like I could concerning all the possible workarounds and fixes so the only thing I can do is post all the information in hopes that this will get fixed soon. My fps drops happen around the tower in certain scenarios concerning the time of day, the tangled shore is by far where I get the worst performance and average to 35-50 fps, Europa is here and there same with the tower averaging about 50-80. Now in the crucible is where everything goes downhill, I get really bad stutters when in or out of fights as long as there is a lot of shooting going on and supers being thrown I will freeze depending on how intense the fights get and eventually I just can't get a good game out of crucible and it ruins my experience. The new raid is somewhat a decent experience but I can tell its somewhat the same situation with crucible but without the freezing and it seems that I struggle with a lot of assets being rendered especially when I'm at the morning star during both the atraks encounter and the station falling down to europa and I average to 50-62. That's all the information I have and for anyone that is wanting to know my specs without looking at the pastebin here they are: Ryzen 7 2700x ASUS X470-F ROG 32GB Ram 3200mhz AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT And before anyone asks no my CPU is not causing a huge bottleneck since I tested every other game and I'm getting really good performance and got more fps that I could otherwise never get on my 1060 but I know I'm not utilizing the full potential of the 6800 XT by limiting it to pcie 3.0 and not running the latest 5th gen Ryzen. https://pastebin.com/mqkJp77C

https://pastebin.com/XChGK6jv AMD system here: 5800x and a Powercolor 6800 non-xt ASUS B550-A Motherboard running 32gb Gskill 3600mhz ram Samsung 980 1TB SSD Alienware 34inch Ultrawide Monitor 3440x1440 120hz At first when experiencing issues in destiny 2, my main game, I thought something was wrong with some of my new components, and I was rather upset because at times the game was unplayable, no matter how low I set the graphics settings. (extreme stuttering, and extremely low fps in some areas. Tangles shore, europa, tower) However in other games, like Final Fantasy 14 online, I max out the settings and get 110-120fps. I read over a dozen threads about this with various fixes, and tried uninstalling the game, as well as a clean DDU uninstall and reinstall of the graphics drivers. I have the latest bios for the motherboard and the latest drivers for the card. Tried deleting cvars, editing cvars, freesync on/off in amd panel, vsync on and off in game, FPS cap in game...reset amd shader cache (the file is larger than 64kb anyways) you name it i tried it. everything in this thread and more. I am convinced now that myself like the others in this thread are experiencing an issue with the game itself, and I am sad there hasn't been any mention of this on Bungie's end to fix. It's preventing me from enjoying the new content.

          • I thought AMD drivers 20.4.1 was a good fix but after a full day of playing with those drivers I can now say it's not a good fix. Constant stuttering and freeze frames especially in PVP. I've had to revert back to the latest drivers with huge fps drops. This thread gets bigger every day so hopefully this bug gets Bungies full attention soon.

            • I have tried everything. Literally everything. The things that are listed here, other stuff that I found on Youtube, Reddit, etc. I was playing at 75 fps consistently before Beyond Light, now let alone 75 I can't even get higher than 40. I was so excited for Beyond Light, but now I don't know what to do. Bungie are you going to fix this or should I just quit the game I spend 1000+ hours on?

Bungie, is there any update? Ive gone from 160 fps constant before BL to anywhere between 90-130. That list solves nothing and you know it. Many of us have optimised set ups. Even if the game drops 1fps it has a microstutter and thats with gsync on. Its been almost 4 weeks? No word at all? Id like it spoken about in twab. Communicate a plan.

                    • Alright, honestly I wasn't there for the launch day of the new expansion so I didn't wait for weeks for a fix on this matter, but you've lost me as a future customer. You choose to actively ignore the issues, give no updates on the matter, but continue to post TWAB's like nothing is wrong. You used to make great games, but you guys really ought to invest more in quality control and have your priorities straight, because this entire sh*tshow baffles me.

                    • Literally none of the big D2 youtubers/streamers are talking about this and for what I can tell this is only happening to a small fraction of PC players. Bungie has abandoned us, nothing will be done to fix this. If you are reading this: get your refund if you still can.

                    • I have a ryzen 5 3600x and a Radeon 5700xt. Game mainly has problems in any large open environments or encounters with many things going on (so it happens basically every time I enter a fight. Minus crucible, which is fine for some but I am not a sweat. Used to average around 80-90 FPS on high settings in the tangled shore, however I’m am lucky if I hit 50 with the lowest possible settings. This is the only game I have FPS issues with. Not only that, but it is the only game that refuses to use anymore then 45-50% of my systems specs (both cpu and gpu). This problem gets worse if I use a sword or anytime bungie brings out a new lighting or physics update. Hopefully gets fixed before I feel it is necessary to purchase a new cpu just to maybe play the game at 60 FPS consistently.

I currently only get 40-70 fps without streaming to twitch and before beyond light I was getting 220-250 while streaming to twitch. So whatever you did take the game offline for a week and undo the fix. There was nothing wrong with the old engine this new one cripples out pc's. I would honestly say it's my fault if I did not get 140+ fps in Assassin's Creed Valhalla, Forza, WoW, Ark, Call of Duty Black Ops, Battlefield 5 I mean you name it. You guys did something and failed to test it before you released it. Same old bungie.

                        • Hi Same problem here. Never before I experienced these issuses with fps drops. I have big FPS drops on all locations in game. The biggest drops were on Tangle Shore and EDZ. I think that this is not an hardware issue. I have I9-9900K at 5.0Ghz/ 32Gb RAM HyperX 3200/ 1TB M.2 SSD/Nvidia 3080 @ 1440p 165Hz and still have FPS Drops. Same thing happens at 1080p at the same config with Acer Predator monitor @1080p 144hz. It is not important what the settings in the game are, same at Lowest and Highest. Tested this also on AMD Ryzen 3600X 4.4Ghz/32GB Ram 3000Mhz/1TB M.2 SSD/ Sapphire RX 5700 XT Nitro+, and FPS drops are even bigger. Both systems have new Win10 20H2 wit latest updates and drivers. I also made tests on two other systems results where the same. Thanks
