[BNG] PC FPS Issues Megathread - UPDATE June 22

Hey, community. We're currently investigating FPS issues on PC.
UPDATES
June 22, 2021 Last night, AMD released Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.6.1 that fixes some Radeon Graphics products that were experiencing lower than expected performance in Destiny 2. AMD users may want to change their Settings > Preferred Software Version to Recommended + Optional for future updates.

June 3, 2021 In our TWaB blog post, we acknowledged that we made some major engine changes with the launch of Beyond Light - while working from home. Due to the pandemic, we haven't had access to our PC compatibility lab to do in-depth testing. We've been making improvements with each release even though they aren't called out in patch notes, and we're working with our partners to help address these issues and are optimistic about the future.

January 29, 2021 We have looked over the data post 3.0.2 launch: -- High-end users saw big improvements: we're about halfway back to pre-Beyond Light perf. -- Mid-range systems didn't see much improvement. -- Low-end and laptops didn't see much improvement. We're continuing to investigate and look for solutions toward better performance.

January 19, 2021 We released Update 3.0.2 that optimized Lighting on PC GPUs to help increase performance. -- Many folks have mentioned turning off the Shader Cache in the NVIDIA Control Panel. Does this help with performance?

December 14, 2020 We believe we found a few issues related to light probes that have led to GPU performance degradation. We're still investigating and hope to have a resolution in January.

Please use this thread to help us track down what is causing the issue by:
1. Checking back in a month later to see if there has been any updates from bungie? Any mention in the twabs? Known issue? Still down from 160+ to 100-120 post beyond light. Pc is optimised properly for gaming and all drivers are obviously up to date. Nothing on that checklist I hadnt already done.

    • https://pastebin.com/N4BB1uPC Between beyond light and before patch 3.0.0.4 i was able to play on medium-high settings and achieved 30-50 fps. Since 3.0.0.4 (or maybe the Windows 10 20H2 update, but only Destiny consumes the CPU according to the task manager) the game is always in the cpu limit, regardless how low I put my graphics settings (and use 80% render resolution and 1680x1050 display resolution). I already executed the listed thread options why may resolve the issues without success. I know my hardware is old, but the game did run perfectly for me between beyond light and before 3.0.0.4. The game is perfect in lost places, but if I see the sky or join a place with players, the FPS drop down.

Now it's allmost two month and still nothing to this cinematics+performance problem. Not a single attempt to fix it and not even any kind of statement or a reply. Just this Megathread what is more like a dead end... a dead mailbox nobody cares about - that's the impression I get. Once again but the last time I want to share my suspicion that the issue is caused by DirectX12 what is not working for anything else than Win10 and not compatible to some Graphiccards what would explain why some Win10 users have problems as well. But Win7 users like me for example in general ... Today I hoped this update would finally bring a fix but it did not and Im finally sick of waiting and hoping for something propably never will happen so I just delete the game and forget about it. I can't continue playing due this problem and this ignorance to any kind of problems and inconsiderateness really pisses me off. Im just done! It's kinda painfull especially because I had to buy the game but well... that's just how customers nowadays geting treated... once again scammed ... thats something I'll never geting used to.

      • Before this season i had around 80 fps in most places now its under 50fps with massive drops. (i play with a potato) I have bought all DLC and the game worked fine before now that there is a new season its unplayable for me.. So is it legal to change the game CPU requirements so that its unplayable for some ppl? I really dont want to study my cpu just to play a game.. https://pastebin.com/rgbk7jg5/

Eh, running an 7700k and a GTX 970. Was able to run it pretty smoothly at around 80-120fps on 900p/medium settings. Thanks to the Beyond Light update, I am now running lowest settings on 720p and still get frequent dips into the 40-60 fps range. What a s—-fest, lmao. // some further testing: Forcing the multi-threaded option in the cvars file brought FPS back to around 100, even in heavier situations. However, it introduced very unbearable flickering. Following every other advice in the opening post did not change anything either. Also, DX diagnosis: https://pastebin.com/fyAShsYt Wanted to get myself a 3070/3080 soon, but considering all the other people having problems even with those cards, I think I'll pass and go back to play something different again, as I don't think Bungie will ever allocate the resources to properly fix this. Lack of communication is a true bummer. Have a good one, folks.

Who else here sees a screen hitch/stutter each time the fps drops a few frames, while standing still and rotating the camera slowly? ..Example.. Screen capped to 120fps 120, 120, 120, 119 (stutter), 120 If you see stuttering similar to the example above, have you noticed that setting the framerate cap lower doesn’t really help? ..Example.. Screen now capped to 60fps 60, 59 (stutter), 60, 60, 57 (stutter) Does the framerate stop dipping and does the stuttering stop when you cap your fps at 36/30fps? ..Example.. Screen capped to 36fps 36, 36, 36, 36, 36 (no stuttering) Why ask? For me I have to lower the cap to 36fps Vsync to stop the hitching (144hz monitor). This shouldn’t be necessary with my pc specs. I clean installed windows 10 today and it’s still happening. It seems to happen more often when there are some players around. I recall thinking the issue stopped, for like 30 seconds the framerate did not dip, I then looked around and there were no player names on screen. This wasn’t an issue before beyond light, the game could drop from 120fps to 90fps and when I had Gsync turned on the transition was smooth - Gsync/freesync owners know what I’m taking about. Only now, I see a stutter/hitch when the game drops 1fps. (edit - i did have some hitching in The Tower only, that started around March, if that helps) My pc spec : Ryzen 3700x, 2080ti, 16gb ram, 144hz gsync acer xb271hu, win10 2h02 (clean install), ssd. • Please help me understand how I’m experiencing such horrendous frame drops and overall WORSE FPS since your patch? And it’s not my system. I9-10850 RTX 3080 Windows 10 pro Updated drivers I would easily get 165 FPS 1440P no issues. Now I’m struggling to see 100 in populated areas and PvP is a lag spike mess.

https://pastebin.com/qWtnpg1d Getting 0.7 sec random freezes. This started with 3.0.1 update. Before that, I had the latest Win 10 updates and NVIDIA drivers. Updating to newer drivers today did not help. Following the suggestions in this post did not help. I did notice a spike in disk usage whenever the hitch occurs (in the system resource monitor), but that's all I have to go on. Update: Going into CVARs and setting <cvar name="low_latency_mode" value="2"/> may have fixed it. Or maybe it was deleting Cyberpunk 2077. Or not having DIM open in chrome in the background.

            • 2080ti 3700x 16g of ram Pre Beyond light while active in crucible/game I would get anywhere from 250-400fps min settings now after beyond light I dropped to 150 and with Tuesdays update I dropped to 60-120fps. I have done everything on this list error still persists I have supported this game since d1 buying every expansion I even rebought expansions on pc. This is unacceptable I understand covid is hard but the game is almost unplayable.

            • I'm not entirely sure how its possible to remove majority of the content, "optimize" the engine and also have a net reduction of 25% pc fps across the board. I'm curious to see what numbers are actually being reported by next gen consoles after this update. I'll be shocked if people actually get the advertised fps. Seeing as next gen consoles have no where near the computing power of moderately built pc. I mean the game looks like I'm in a goddamn montage, what is this crap bungie. Tone it down and give me my frames back

I have a 5800X and 6800XT and get ~50FPS in "Tangled Shore" after switching from a Nvidia 1080. Also having issues in other areas and menus, but not as bad. Nothing other than Steam running in background. I checked all limits using HWINFO v6.40 and it's not the GPU or CPU reaching it's limits, GPU utilized ~50% and most used CPU core is ~50% as well when this is happening. The clocks on the card are around 1500 when this is is happening. Forcing the clocks higher to 1900 (base clock) minimum does not help the FPS/issue at all. Verify integrity did not help. Deleting CVAR did not help. Lowering graphics settings did not help. VSYNC and Freesync off did not help. I tried all three latest AMD drivers 20.11.2, 20.11.3, 20.12.1 Chipset drivers are current. https://pastebin.com/h1UC8ain

I'm having similar issues to a lot of people here. PVP can become a slideshow. The Tangled shore runs absolutely horrific especially when I first load in. I've disabled overlays and GPU acceleration in Discord and I've updated all drivers/BIOS to the latest versions. I've tried with HDR on and off, and with Freesync on and off as well. I'll try tweaking the audio settings as well as it does seem like it sometimes happens with an explosion. I've tried both UEFI mode and CSM modes as well and it doesn't seem to make a difference. https://pastebin.com/MYUVSiG8
