[BNG] PC FPS Issues Megathread - UPDATE June 22

Hey, community. We're currently investigating FPS issues on PC.
UPDATES
June 22, 2021 Last night, AMD released Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.6.1 that fixes some Radeon Graphics products that were experiencing lower than expected performance in Destiny 2. AMD users may want to change their Settings > Preferred Software Version to Recommended + Optional for future updates.

June 3, 2021 In our TWaB blog post, we acknowledged that we made some major engine changes with the launch of Beyond Light - while working from home. Due to the pandemic, we haven't had access to our PC compatibility lab to do in-depth testing. We've been making improvements with each release even though they aren't called out in patch notes, and we're working with our partners to help address these issues and are optimistic about the future.

January 29, 2021 We have looked over the data post 3.0.2 launch: -- High-end users saw big improvements: we're about halfway back to pre-Beyond Light perf. -- Mid-range systems didn't see much improvement. -- Low-end and laptops didn't see much improvement. We're continuing to investigate and look for solutions toward better performance.

January 19, 2021 We released Update 3.0.2 that optimized Lighting on PC GPUs to help increase performance. -- Many folks have mentioned turning off the Shader Cache in the NVIDIA Control Panel. Does this help with performance?

December 14, 2020 We believe we found a few issues related to light probes that have led to GPU performance degradation. We're still investigating and hope to have a resolution in January.

Please use this thread to help us track down what is causing the issue by:
1. • Running an i7 9700k, 32GB RAM, 2TB 970 Evo and 2080Ti FE, running 3840 x 1600 @ 120Hz. Windows 10 v 2004, all latest updates, latest nVidia drivers and all previous drivers back to August tested. V Sync set to On in nVidia CP, G Sync enabled, 100 FoV, 120 fps limit, V Sync off in game. I used to be able to maintain a consistent 120 fps with occasional dips down into the 80s when on Titan or near the EDZ church, and also when in public events with lots of particle effects present (supers etc) Since Beyond Light, I've been seeing drops down to 80 fps when simply standing still anywhere on Europa, EDZ, Tangled Shore, Nessus and Cosmodrome. The Moon isn't too bad for the most part outside of the Altar of Sorrows and Pit of Heresy, where frame rate is again inconsistent. Cosmodrome seems to dip lower still in certain areas (the Navota strike is particularly bad with dips to below 60 in the first Fallen area and Hive battle thereafter) and EDZs Church area is also absolutely awful. Nessus also dips low and dips further in public events. During damage phase of Taniks The Abomination, the framerate drops to sub 60 every single time. Another particularly egregious example is when fighting The Fanatic in Hollowed Lair, as the particle / smoke effects absolutely destroy my framerate even before enemies have started spawning in.

    • Hopefully this is somewhat helpful, dxdiag attached, system specs: i7-6700 32GB 2400Mhz Memory 2x16GB Radeon RX 6800 Sata SSD I have noticed that frame drops seem most prevalent in proximity to other guardians and enemies. If I traverse between areas on any planet the fps increases significantly but drops again as I enter the area and seems worse when a guardian is present. I have also noticed that if I play a crucible game I can go from 70 - 90 fps, if I load that same map up in a private match i easily hit 120-140 fps, even if I try to stress it by throwing grenades and supers every where. Not sure if this is just anecdotal evidence but do with that what you can.

      • I get frame drop everywhere from varying amounts in between 10-60 fps. It's usually the worst on Europa, but all the destinations cause issues (excluding strikes/crucible/and parts of Deep Stone). I used to have constant 144+ fps on all destinations (prior to beyond light launch). It doesn't effect me nearly as bad as some of my friends, but I wanted to post as well to show its not just a matter of equipment. I have a 10600k/2080 super/32GB RAM. Capping frames to a lower amount doesn't stop the frame drop.

      • Let Loose Thy Talons Step 6 of 10 Stuck at 4/5 Cannot throw the relics at the boss to break down the shield. There was another post stating this problem and it was deleted. I have posted about this and it was deleted. This is still an existing problem. No clue why a game issue a paying customer is having is being DELETED/Moved. I rarely if ever post and if I do it's only because I've exhausted my resources in researching. Need Help.

      • It happens the MOST in the Tangled Shore. It happened on high curse week on the Dreaming City, but i turned my settings down from high and that made it feel better. Didnt fix the Tangled Shore tho :( Europa also seemed a little lower, but it has a lot of stuff with the snow and the storm going on so i figured that was kinda normal? I have noticed lower frames on Deep Stone Crypt Tanix Abomination, and Sanctified Mind Garden encounters. I'd assume Riven has the same issues but I was busy trying to figure out why she kept showing up on the second floor early to pay attention.

      • Laptop with i5-8300H CPU @ 2.30GHz, RAM 12 GB, GTX 1050 I have frame drops: Loading into my character select Loading into the game, the destinations, all the crucible, in strikes, in gambit. Even in the tower Pre-beyond light and the first week in this DLC I can play with 60 FPS minimun 50 FPS, but now the frames drop go to 20 FPS, 15 FPS and 2 FPS. And thats really horrible https://pastebin.com/Y7d5HWSq ( This is the Dxdiag, but I don´t know why pastebin detected like potentially offensive or questionable content)

The fact that the suggestion above is blaming the issues on the users... Bungie optimized your shit before releasing a PC version much like you did on D2 vanilla release! Getting 45 FPS in the tangled shore btw I use to get 140 FPS

      • Ryzen 3600, Nvidia 1650 Super (Overclocked to 1500Mhz) I am experiencing random and inconsistent frame rate drops, making the game literally unplayable in many areas. This has gone down from me being able to play 1920x1080, windowed fullscreen on high (didn't need to overclock to do that). Now that I am overclocking I have gone down to minimal settings and 1600x900.

      • i7-9900k, RTX 2060S 8GB GIGABYTE, 16GB of RAM, W10, latest drivers for GPU, no overclocks, GPU locked to roughly ~1500mhz clock speeds via MSI Afterburner. I seem to get a *lot* of my framedrops when I'm standing still, looking off in the distance, specifically on Europa. I'll get ~120 FPS and then, as soon as I turn my camera to a distant vista, with nothing happening on-screen, frames tend to drop as low as 80FPS. That also sends to happen when at least one person is using Stasis with a handful of mobs on-screen. I get frame drops all over the place, with the exception of the Tower, in Orbit, and in Crucible. Every other spot in the game fluctuates FPS greatly.

      • I just got beyond light on steam and redownloaded Destiny for the first time in a few months. All the cgi cutscenes stutter massively and basically run at 1 fps, the cutscenes using ingame assets run at a solid 30 and the game itself runs at a reliable 60 fps. I've tried most of the suggestions and I'm not sure how to fix this. gtx 1070, i7 6700K, 16GB ram, Win 7 and newest drivers no overclocks

      • The game was running fine yesterday after the windows and nvidia update. I played for probably 4 hours then decided to go through all my gear. Changed up my loadout to go into Iron Banner and when i zoned into the tower my frames were down to about 25. They were always above 60 in the tower and above 70 all other areas of the game...now they won't go above 35 anywhere. I had this same problem just before Beyond Light released and tried every fix or optimization i could find and the only thing that fixed it was a fresh install of windows. So, that lasted roughly 4 weeks and now i'm having the same exact issue. Frame rates no higher than 35/40 on any destination and 60-80 in orbit along with micro stutters in the menus and in game. I am not going to reinstall windows every 4 weeks to play this game and i shouldn't have to. No other game gives me any issues. So now I'm stuck with a game and season that i paid for that i can't even play becuase apparently the company is too concerned about their microtransactions and streamers to care about the other people who are having actual problems playing their game. I've always recommended this game to people to play, but after reading through this forum and seeing the large amount of unresolved issues i have no choice but to not recommend this game and I will not be purchasing a damn thing bungie makes moving forward unless they start putting game performance before balancing and sales. You can't sell or balance a game nobody can play!!!! I love this game and its lore, but not being able to play it at a performance level i know my pc is capable of and having spent countless hours trying to fix an issue that most likely has nothing to do with anything on my end has left a very sour taste in my mouth. My system specs are Ryzen 7 1800x asrock b450m steel legend mobo 32bg ddr4 All SSD's gtx 1080ti liquid cooled windows 10 pro I have cleared my nvidia cache and cvars with neither fixing the issue. I have also cleared all caches in windows with nothing fixing the issue. I guess my biggest question is what is reinstalling windows fixing that i can't fix without reinstalling windows? Anyone have any suggestions?

Similar to a few comments on the thread, I have privacy concerns about dxdiag on a public forum, so I have an i7-8700k, 2080, and 16 GB of 2666 DDR4. Now, I have frame drops when: - Loading into my character select - Loading into the game, transitioning from the dark blue menu to the gray backdrop - Loading into Europa - Loading into The Tangled Shore - Loading into The Dreaming City - Would like to mention I spawn in a completely different location in the Dreaming City, far away from spawn. I have a clip if interested. It may also be unrelated, but I cannot be tabbed out of the game when I am going to character select, as the game soft locks itself, and I am forced to restart. The game also crashed when I am tabbed out loading into any planet in the game. These all began with the drop of Beyond Light, as my fps was perfectly fine before this. My FPS also, from memory Crucible -> consistent 150-160 at highest graphics settings -> 104 at medium settings EDZ -> 110 on Highest -> 85 at medium Tangled Shore -> 140 on Highest -> 70 on Medium Changing resolution and graphics quality doesn't affect any of these either.

      • I get frame drops when loading my character's inventory shortly after starting the game. I get frame drops when loading into the tangled shore I get frame drops when loading into the dreaming city I get frame drops when loading into wrathborn hunts All of the frame drops listed prior cause massive stuttering (almost freezing completely) for a short time before stabilizing. I get lower than average FPS in Riis-Reborn and other areas on Europa (~60 compared to a capped 95) I currently have a i5-9600K @ 4.8 GHz and an RTX 2060. My system has 32 GB of 3200 MHz DDR4 memory. I would post my DxDiag report, but have some privacy concerns regarding it being on a public forum.

      • Have gotten way less stable fps since beyond light launch with the occational hitch here and there. After the last update however it got waaaay worse. Stutters from up to .5 to around a second which seems to happen more frequently when I enter new areas or when strike objectives change. But it also happens no matter where I am in game or no matter what I am doing. Before BL I had none of these issues. I've tried every single one of your tips, nothing helped. I've elso rebuilt shadercaches, reinstalled the game, tried moving it from my usual m.2 disk to a brand new normal SSD. I splurged on a RTX 3080 to not deal with shit like this, which makes it even more annoying. I have also tried to rollback my nvidia drivers to no avail. Also tried the newest one that was released today. I usually play with max settings on everything, in 1440p with 150% render resolution. I can't remember framerates before beyond light because it never seemed iffy, but after I can see that I am usually above 120fps with occational dips lower, but not enough to justify the massive stuttering and hitching. None of the other games I play have any problems like this, it's as smoothe as can be. Specs: RTX 3080 i5-9600k 16gb ram, dual channel 3200mhz MSI z390 gaming pro carbon Usually run on M.2 NVME, tried on a new standard SSD for the hell of it as well. • As of today's update, I've been having random .5-.75 second stuttering seemingly everywhere. Attached is a short video showing the stutters, it may seem like the video is buffering, but it's really just the stutter. On the first one, I was at the settings I played at before doing this mornings update. The 2nd one is a test with my spare 970 to see if the GFX card was the issue, and the final one was with my original 1080 at different graphics settings. https://imgur.com/a/hvaRh8e Specs: i7-7700k, 32GB 2400 Mhz, GTX 1080 FE / EVGA 970 (For diagnosis on card). More in depth specs here: https://pastebin.com/eBAyfUrR My normal settings include High Default 1440p with Vsync on Capped at 165 Frames. I've tried: -Clearing Cvar file -Verifying Integrity of Game Files -Turning Vsync on and off -Turning Gsync on and off -Using CPUID to check thermals during stutters, no spikes on either CPU or GPU -Physically inspecting fans (1080 had a little dust build up, removal has had no impact on increasing performance. -Testing other games (CSGO, Forza Horizon 4, MCC, FFXIV all run steady, no frame stuttering) Any Advice before I fresh install Win10 and Destiny?

I've been having issues since Beyond Light came out. My experience went from being capped at 160FPS @3K resolution to a stuttering mess with massive frame drops and now a new game freezing bug(Game hitches and stops for a second.) At this point, I can't really make a better machine apart from maybe getting a Ryzen 5950x. I don't understand how I can go from such a fluid experience in Shadowkeep to a stutterfest in Beyond Light. The game also crashes to desktop randomly, reboots my PC from time to time and doesn't spit out an error code. All of my other games work perfectly fine. I have stress tested and benchmarked my machine for hours without issue. • Im also facing this issue, mostly micro stutters and huge fps drops in EDZ and Tangled shore in both cases now 50-60fps on avg, Cosmodrome also certain spots,. For example @ Cosmodrome Strike, one moment 100fps then I enter tight hallway and get barely 50-60fps and mouse feels very laggy. I upgraded to new cpu, ram and the issue persists. Use to have i5 4690K asus z87 deluxe ddr3 g.skill tridentX 2400mhz 16GB CL10 now i5 10500 msi z490 unify ddr4 g.skill trident neoZ 3600mhz 16GB CL16 gpu 980ti zotac amp extreme 144hz display @ DP connection. The game is installed on fast sata SSD Crucial MX500 1TB. Lower mouse polling rate to 500hz also no difference. That said, turning reflex off in cfg file and set nvidia low latency - on, fullscreen and disable windows fullscreen optimizations fixed a lot of stutters, BUT loading transition assets, new parts of the map remains. I expected new system would fix those loading new level parts, but it didnt it looks the same and it is really annoying to say the least. Can you also fix this, or communicate with nvidia to find a better solution. I tried various drivers and all have it. Gpu is not overclocked extra, cpu stock or slight OC doesn't change anything either. The loading stutter of new game parts remains, this is the biggest issue, apart from the new engine lighting which cripples the game more with extra fps drops
