[BNG] PC FPS Issues Megathread - UPDATE June 22

Hey, community. We're currently investigating FPS issues on PC.
UPDATES
June 22, 2021 Last night, AMD released Radeon Software Adrenalin 21.6.1 that fixes some Radeon Graphics products that were experiencing lower than expected performance in Destiny 2. AMD users may want to change their Settings > Preferred Software Version to Recommended + Optional for future updates.

June 3, 2021 In our TWaB blog post, we acknowledged that we made some major engine changes with the launch of Beyond Light - while working from home. Due to the pandemic, we haven't had access to our PC compatibility lab to do in-depth testing. We've been making improvements with each release even though they aren't called out in patch notes, and we're working with our partners to help address these issues and are optimistic about the future.

January 29, 2021 We have looked over the data post 3.0.2 launch: -- High-end users saw big improvements: we're about halfway back to pre-Beyond Light perf. -- Mid-range systems didn't see much improvement. -- Low-end and laptops didn't see much improvement. We're continuing to investigate and look for solutions toward better performance.

January 19, 2021 We released Update 3.0.2 that optimized Lighting on PC GPUs to help increase performance. -- Many folks have mentioned turning off the Shader Cache in the NVIDIA Control Panel. Does this help with performance?

December 14, 2020 We believe we found a few issues related to light probes that have led to GPU performance degradation. We're still investigating and hope to have a resolution in January.

Please use this thread to help us track down what is causing the issue by:
1. Also getting the minor stuttering/hitching when loading into new areas. I've tried lots of different things to no avail, though capping my framerate to 90 in game has made the game at least somewhat playable, though Im still getting minor stuttering, and of course Im literally losing 30fps This is the only game I own thats doing this. Here is my dxdiag - https://pastebin.com/xzS9BysX (too long for spoiler tag)

  • **LINK TO PC SPECS AS INSTRUCTED** - https://pastebin.com/4378rsZh I've been experiencing stuttering issues with D2 since switching over to PC around 6 months ago. Basically what happens is that every so often, regardless of what I'm doing in-game, I experience stutter/lag. When it does happen my FPS doesn't drop dramatically, if at all, so I don't think it's a case of my hardware not being able to maintain the FPS limit I have set. I've tried many different 'fixes', but so far nothing has worked. Here are my PC's specs: AMD Ryzen 5 3600 CPU ASUS VG258QR Monitor Be Quiet Dark Rock 4 CPU Cooler Corsair RM750 PSU Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO 16GB RAM MSI B450 Tomahawk Max Motherboard MSI GeForce RTX 2060 GAMING Z Samsung 860 EVO 1 TB SSD These are the things I have tried: Different graphics settings i.e. Low / Medium / High / Highest Discord, GeForce Experience and Steam in-game overlays turned off Changed Display Port cable Changed power settings to 'MAD Ryzen Maximum Performance' Empty Standy List setup to clear RAM cache every 5 minutes Fresh Install of Windows and drivers GameBarPresence removed G-SYNC and V-SYNC on, with an FPS cap of 140 (Using NCP Max Frame Rate Limiter) G-SYNC on and V-SYNC off, with an FPS cap of 140 (Using NCP Max Frame Rate Limiter) Portforwarding to open NAT for D2 XMP turned on in BIOS I feel as though I have exhausted all options and haven't yet found anything else to try. My PC is not overclocked and, depending on the in-game activity, I usually get between 80-140fps. My monitors refresh rate is set at 144hz, hence the FPS cap of 140. I downloaded HW Info and ran a test for just under 2 hours. I've uploaded the result to Google Drive and you can view it using this link: https://drive.google.com/file/d/13qFd2cuYNOlrGwLDnWZvKg1bFN25F2BE/view?usp=sharing I'm not really sure if the results identify any underlying hardware issues, as I'm new to PC gaming. If someone with more knowledge could look at the screenshot and let me know if anything doesn't look right, I'd really appreciate it. I can also change the graphs to reflect other PC components or parts, so let me know if this is needed. Or if further testing is required I can do this too.

dx diag info: https://pastebin.com/wU7cXCHB (taken in Thieve's landing on Tangled Shore) Whenever I go into any patrol area, my fps hits 80, sometimes 70 as seen in the Tangled Shore. Pre-beyond light, I rarely dipped below 200 in non-vigorous activities. My overall fps has also went down significantly. I never go above 120-150 fps in anything I do aside from floating in orbit, which sits at 250 fps, when I used to sit in orbit at 550. It's frustrating because I used to play this game on a very poor laptop that ran Destiny 2 very poorly, and one of the main reasons I decided to build my own rig was that I could start playing Destiny 2 again but in good quality. I'm not saying that 80 fps is worse than what I previously had, but paying $2000+ for my new PC to not even be able to run Destiny 2 above 80 fps on only 1080p is frustrating. All of my old fps was when I was running 1440p, not even 1080. Pc specs: Cpu: Ryzen 7 3700x GPU: RTX nvidia rtx 3080 ventus 3X 10g Motherboard: MSI MAG B550 TOMAHAWK RAM: G.SKILL Ripjaws V Series 16GB (2x8) DDR4 3600 Storage: Samsung - 970 EVO Plus 1TB Internal PCI Express 3.0 x4 (NVMe) SSD (two of them) Power supply: CORSAIR - RM Series 750W ATX12V 2.52/EPS12V 2.92 80 Plus Gold Modular Power Supply It's fine if you guys don't fix the issue right away, but you guys are giving no updates about the situation, and that's truly frustrating. You're busy talking about how it'll run so good on new gen consoles while ignoring issues you're already having.

    • My specs: Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-8700k CPU @ 5.10GHz (12 CPUs), ~5.1GHz Memory: 32768MB RAM Available OS Memory: 32692MB RAM Card name: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 Ti Manufacturer: NVIDIA Current Mode: 2560 x 1440 (64 bit) (144Hz) Started PC gaming in season of the drifter and picked up competitive PVP. For seasons 6-11 in 1440p with settings on HIGH I would consistently stay locked at my 144hz refresh rate. As soon as the Beyond Light update hit my FPS will drop consistently. Clean 144 FPS was completely gone and I now will get anywhere from 90-120 fps in all parts of the game with settings on LOW!!!! This FPS range will flicker frequently creating a very stuttered experience. I have followed all of the directions and tips to try to fix the issue but nothing is working. PLEASE GET DLSS

      • My game runs pretty good aside from Tangled Shore and the first large room upon entering Bray Exoscience. I go from 100+ FPS to around 30-45. EDZ performance is on the low as well, not nearly as bad the others. I run a Ryzen 5 2600X AMD 5700XT GPU 16gb RAM @ 3000Mhz

Worst offenders: Tangled Shore - can not achieve more than 45fps even on low settings. This is after a pretty easy 90+ on high settings prior to BL. The first big room in Bray Exoscience - around 30fps lower than other areas in Bray Exo These are on top of about a 20% decrease across the board after BL launch. No resolution scaling, 1080 https://pastebin.com/rJTcsK4F

https://pastebin.com/r3a1btBP Since Beyond Light from 120-144 to 90-120FPS down - No Hardware or anything else changed Edith: When change "gamma_control" in the CVARS file from "3" to "1". Hit Registration is perfect again and the FPS are a little bit under the rate before BL. Also take "Shadercache" off in my nVidia Settings, reboot PC and turn it on again.

            • I have put together a Video that shows 2x (slightly) different ways of sorting the shader cache on an NVIDIA GPU which has already helped a TON of players... The fix also helped me right at the launch of Beyond Light... It's definitely worth a try if nothing else has worked for you... here is the link: https://youtu.be/l5P6q3vn-38

              • There are two problems, one which is pertaining to BL, and one which is going further back: GTX 1080, i7-9700K, 16 Gigs of RAM, D2 runs off an SSD drive. 144hz G-Sync monitor, game capped at @120 to make sure you never skip a rendered frame under normal operation. Settings mostly set to low/medium except for textures and SMAA antialiasing. BL induced roughly 15% frametime increase across the board, with some really nasty frame hitches along the way. The recent update to version 3.0.1 clearly improved some of worst hitches out of the game, but there are still hitches remaining. But the slightly lowered frame rate still applies after BL. The long-term problem is that there's lag in the mouse input model. You can definitely feel this as you are playing the game. 3.0.0 improved upon this by a lot, but the game's input isn't smooth like in Doom Eternal or the like. You can definitely feel some jaggyness and lag in the input. When a hitch occurs, this gets way worse, and you can feel it jar. It would have been okay if this happened on an instance transition, but it can happen in the middle of a world instance all of a sudden, which somewhat perplexes me. Shouldn't everything have been loaded by then?

              • I have often experienced stutters, but then changed recently introduced Nvidia low latency mode setting from "Ultra" to "On" and now everything is butter-smooth. Maybe it will help someone.

              • Sometimes FPS drops to quite unstable 10-20fps in heavier zones like any Crucible matches. In a single player scenraio it usually stays at 60+ fps but it can still drop to 30 fps. Lowering settings doesn't really help and even on low the performance can be quite poor at times. DxDiag: https://pastebin.com/ms0JBD8B

              • Dxdiag: https://pastebin.com/LBPxPswh FPS drops significantly in certain areas of the tower. There is an area of the Steppes in the Cosmodrome just some feet from Hans where the lateral wall of the building has a flickering light. Something about facing this flickering light seems to cause some FPS drop.

              • Ok, so my specs exactly LAPTOP RTX 2070 Super with max-q design. Intel 10750H CPU 2.60GHz. 16GB DDR4 of ram 1TB SSD. I wasn't having any FPS issues until Beyond light was released. It happens every time I load into an activity that isn't the tower or crucible. This issue was minimal when Beyond light was released but has seemed to have gotten worse to the point where my game will crash upon loading into a strike, Tangled shore or The dreaming city. Raids do not crash the game. Now if my game doesn't crash i am running around at 10-30 FPS for a couple of seconds or minutes before i return to the Normal 60 FPS. I have tried lowering all my settings to all low / off which did not help. I tried driver updates and windows updates which also didn't help. I normally run all high capped at 60fps with V-sync turned on. As well as wind impulses and motion blur turned off. With no applications open but Destiny 2 the FPS issues still happen. I have checked task manager to see if anything is reaching 100% while the issue is happening but they are only reaching a max of 80%. DxDIag https://pastebin.com/bGm4izwj

Started having random frame drops since the last update. No specific place that it happens, just completely random in both crucible and pve activities. Framerate basically drops to nothing then goes back up to normal. No issues in other games. My CPU is overclocked to 4.9 ghz, but I've been running it this way for over a year without any issues with Destiny. The GPU is new, but I got it before the last update, and didn't have any fps issues then. One of the things I noticed is that my FPS is barely affected by my game settings. Running at 1440p at everything maxed, or 1080p on low preset, difference is 10-20 fps. • Never had any issues with the game until Beyond Light came out. My computer is more than capable of running this game on the highest settings but it is always sitting between 40-50 fps in some places, mostly the Tangled Shore which is the worst of all the places/activities I do. I attempted lowering my settings to the lowest they can go just to see if it helped with anything and yet my frame rate was still between 40-50 whilst just standing in the tangled shore. https://pastebin.com/Gqn2cfxY

              • Running an i7 9700k, 32GB RAM, 2TB 970 Evo and 2080Ti FE, running 3840 x 1600 @ 120Hz. Windows 10 v 2004, all latest updates, latest nVidia drivers and all previous drivers back to August tested. V Sync set to On in nVidia CP, G Sync enabled, 100 FoV, 120 fps limit, V Sync off in game. I used to be able to maintain a consistent 120 fps with occasional dips down into the 80s when on Titan or near the EDZ church, and also when in public events with lots of particle effects present (supers etc) Since Beyond Light, I've been seeing drops down to 80 fps when simply standing still anywhere on Europa, EDZ, Tangled Shore, Nessus and Cosmodrome. The Moon isn't too bad for the most part outside of the Altar of Sorrows and Pit of Heresy, where frame rate is again inconsistent. Cosmodrome seems to dip lower still in certain areas (the Navota strike is particularly bad with dips to below 60 in the first Fallen area and Hive battle thereafter) and EDZs Church area is also absolutely awful. Nessus also dips low and dips further in public events. During damage phase of Taniks The Abomination, the framerate drops to sub 60 every single time. Another particularly egregious example is when fighting The Fanatic in Hollowed Lair, as the particle / smoke effects absolutely destroy my framerate even before enemies have started spawning in.
